Nanyang Cafe 南洋冰室, EkoCheras Mall

Nanyang Cafe brings Hong Kong favourites such as Hong Kong style wonton noodles, Nanyang coffee and milk tea as well as freshly baked polo bun to Cheras folks. Located in EkoCheras Mall, this Malaysian-born cafe has a lovely, casual vibe and paired with good food, it is a great place for a family meal or a gathering with your friends.

The menu features reasonably priced noodles and rice, vegetables, freshly baked bread and desserts, with prices starting from RM3. Here, you can get Hong Kong-style wonton noodles served with either prawn wontons or braised pork knuckle.

Prawns & Wonton with Tossed Noodles (RM11.90) - authentic HK style wonton noodles which are thin and eggy, topped with prawn roe. Comes with five plump and juicy prawn wontons in soup.

Special pork knuckle in preserved bean sauce with tossed noodle (RM12.90) - using specially selected pork knuckle, they are braised for several hours with fu yue (fermented bean curd) until tender. Loved it - the texture was perfect for me, especially the lovely gelatinous skin. This is a good choice for those who prefer more saucy noodles. Served with a bowl of peppery pork soup.

Baby D, the rice lover, went for the Pork chop with curry rice (RM16.90). The pork chop was wonderfully tender and portion was generous too. Served with white rice and a thick, well-spiced curry sauce on the side. We like dipping our pork chop in the curry sauce.. YUM!

The manager recommended the Nanyang Pork Burger with French fries (RM13.90) to Hubby. Turns out what they call Nanyang pork burger is very similar to Macau pork bun which we love. Encased between two soft bun halves was a tender, juicy pork chop, along with sliced tomatoes and lettuce.

One must certainly try the polo bun (RM4) here. Served warm, the buns were lovely and soft with a crusty, crunchy top. Add the cold butter while it's still warm. These delicious buns are freshly baked on their premises several times a day (you can watch them make it at the open kitchen at the front of the restaurant). They also do a yummy custard bun (RM3.50) here. For drinks, try the Oreo Milkshake (RM8.90) as well as the Nanyang Milk Tea (RM5.90 for iced) and Nanyang Coffee (RM4.90 for hot).

For an Instaworthy treat, order the Signature Jumbo Toast with Ice Cream (RM16.80). Perfect for sharing, get the right balance of crispy edge, fluffy bread and melting ice cream.. oh la la!
