How to DIY a Christmas Tree Outfit for your Kid

Last year, Baby D went to school dressed up as a Christmas tree. Hubby managed to DIY a simple outfit for him using just a few items that you can find easily at home. And the boy even won a prize for being one of the best dressed :P

How to DIY a Christmas Tree Outfit for Your Child

What you need:
1 x green bath towel (we got ours from Daiso)
Baubles
Red and white craft string / twine
Needle and thread
Fir tree leaves (or anything similar)
Scissors
One handsome model

1. Fold the towel in half and cut semi-circle in the centre (large enough to fit your child's head through).

2. Criss cross the red and white string across the towel (as shown) and then secure it using a needle and thread.

3. Place baubles or other Christmas decorations, as well as the fir tree leaves along the the string, securing them using the needle and thread too.

BLOOM Mooncakes + DIY Terrarium Kit by The Westin KL

Every year, hotels and retailers would get creative and come up with fantastic box designs to go with their mooncakes. The Westin Kuala Lumpur's innovative BLOOM mooncake gift box is by far my favorite this year as it doubles up as a storage unit as well as an integrated potting container. The box has a clear top which cleverly inverts into a potting tray. It even comes with a DIY terrarium kit, with user-friendly planting instructions. Best mooncake box design ever!

There are 8 traditional baked mooncake flavours to choose from - lotus paste with single yolk, assorted nuts, low sugar plain white lotus paste, pandan lotus, low sugar plain white lotus single yolk, Pearl of Prosperity, pure red bean paste and green tea. You can purchase them in a box of two (RM75) or box of four (RM110).

Nice wood finish box, which can be used as a storage unit

The mooncakes are made using only the finest ingredients. My favorite this year is the Pearl of Prosperity, which is pandan lotus paste with single yolk. The mooncakes have a smooth texture and are not too sweet. We also love the Five Sen5es Assoted Nuts Mixture, chockfull of nutty goodness.

The DIY Terrarium Kit comes with all the necessary ingredients such as hydro balls, activated carbon, sphagnum moss, UGC mix potting soil, pebbles, and Japanese pearl grass seeds. Hubby and I had a fun morning putting our terrarium together, and shooting videos for our YouTube. The seeds are expected to sprout in one week, can't wait!

Step-by-step video instructions on how to set up your own mini terrarium

All labelled nicely

Clear and concise instructions

This is how its supposed to look like once the plants have sprouted. Can't wait :)

Mooncakes can be purchased from The Westin KL hotel or from Pavilion KL Mooncake Fair (Level 2 Centre Court) until 15 September 2016.

Homeschooling: How to Make Giant Bubbles at Home

Last week, we took our kids to see Dr Bubble with Milkshake show at PJ Live Arts in Jaya One. This interactive storytelling show features all things bubbles - we got to see monster bubbles, bubble in a bubble, smokey bubbles, and much more.

Dr Bubble at PJ Live Arts (full screen here)

It's school holidays this week, but ironically, BabySumoKids requested that we do "homeschooling" on the first day of the school holidays. First lesson of the day was Science, and for Science, Hubby was the teacher-in-charge, and he decided to let them learn and play with bubbles, as inspired by Dr Bubble. You too can have a magical day of bubble fun at home with your kids - I guarantee that they will love it!

You can see easily buy bubble solution in the stores, which usually comes with a bubble wand. However, you can also DIY your own bubble solution - simply mix washing liquid with water in a shallow container / plate. For the bubble wand, we used a variety of apparatus to achieve different bubbles. The best one we made today was using an old badminton racket (with no more strings in the centre) to make giant bubbles. The racket was bent at an angle to enable the kids to easily dip it in the bubble solution, and then create lots of big bubbles. If you do not have an old racket in the house, you can buy a cheap one at Daiso or DIY for slightly over RM5.

Yay we can make giant bubbles too! :)

Our giant bubble!

We also used mesh to create multiple bubbles in one go, as well as straws to create "caterpillar bubbles" (ie several small bubbles attached to one another to look like a caterpillar).

We sure had fun experimenting with bubbles today :)
