Nourish by Quan's Kitchen, Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur, Chinatown

Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur, Chinatown recently launched Nourish by Quan’s Kitchen, a lifestyle-driven customizable menu, available for dine-in, takeaway and delivery.

From the Nourish menu, guests can choose from seven Asian and seven Western chef-crafted set meals, made using freshly sourced local ingredients from organic farms and sustainable fisheries with a focus on overall nourishment, balanced nutrition and classic flavors. Every set meal comes with a choice of mains, 2 side dishes and dessert, and is priced at RM33 nett.

Eating clean or looking for something suited to your lifestyle? You can also customize your meal based on your personal preference and mix and match from 14 mains and 19 side dishes

Earlier this week, we opted for food delivery, so we can enjoy the meals in the comfort of our home. Delivery was on time and the food arrived nicely packaged and labelled. We were also impressed with their effort to reduce single-use plastics as their food are packed in compostable BioPak, which is made from sugar cane fibre.

From the Western Menu, we sampled the 48-hour Sous Vide Beef, Fettucine Beef Ragu, and Duck Confit. We stuck to the pre-selected side dishes and desserts. Meanwhile, from the Asian menu, we had the Grilled ayam percik, Beef rendang, Dry rubbed crispy duck confit and Dry laksa noodles.

The food portion is generous and the set meals are pretty well-balanced, as they would generally come with protein, carbs and vegetables. Despite being delivered, the food was still warm when it arrived. From the ones we sampled, our favourites are the 48-hour sous vide beef, Dry laksa noodles and Dry rubbed crispy duck confit. For desserts, you should definitely try the moist Carrot cake, Banana cake or Sago pudding.

Dry laksa noodles with crispy spiced chicken and kailan, carrot cake.

Golden Valley KL: Super Value Set Menu, Crabs & Roast Duck!

Golden Valley KL, one of KL's best Halal Chinese seafood restaurant has recently reopened their restaurant in Melawati Mall for dine-in and are also now offering delivery and takeaways.

Golden Valley KL food delivery

As part of their reopening, they are offering the Super Value Set Menu, available for 2, 5 or 10 pax, priced from RM50 nett. We went for the Set for 2 (RM80 nett) which comes with your choice of soup, seafood, tofu / egg and vegetables.  We had the Szechuan hot and sour soup, Salted egg yolk squid, Thai-style deep fried tofu, and Mixed vegetable curry. Everything was so yummy :)

Szechuan hot and sour soup - chock full of ingredients, appetizing and spicy!

Thai-style deep fried tofu - egg tofu topped with shredded mango, onion, cucumber and chilli in a tangy Thai sauce

Mixed vegetable curry - this was super good! One of my favourite dishes of the evening.. never knew a vegetarian curry could be so flavorful and tasty. Even the kids loved it.

Other than the Super Value Set, Golden Valley is also offering a selection of noodles and rice, as well as their signature roast duck and crabs. For the HK-style roast duck, they are using Halal duck sourced from Perak - you can order quarter (RM28), half (RM48) or whole duck (RM88). For a limited time, you will also get complimentary rice and lettuce with oyster sauce with your roast duck. As expected, the skin is no longer crispy since it was delivered, however the meat was still juicy, tender and flavorful. It comes with a few different dips; I like it with the classic plum sauce.

So, one of my favourite dishes from Golden Valley is their famous chilli crabs, so imagine my delight when I heard that the crabs were available for delivery too! Priced at RM160 per kg, each crab weighs around 600g and comes with complimentary 6 pieces of mantao. It was absolutely fantastic and finger licking good; the boy loved the big meaty, sweet claws and the sauce was just as amazing as we remembered it. We loved it..best chilli crab in KL! Highly recommended!

Azuma Sushi, EkoCheras Mall, KL

Azuma Sushi is one of many Japanese restaurants found in Eko Cheras Mall. Located on LG floor, this restaurant offers conveyer belt sushi as well as an a la carte and set meal menus.

Hubby had the Salmon sashimi set (RM19.60), which comes with a side salad, rice, chawanmushi and miso soup. The salmon sashimi was thickly sliced and fresh, very enjoyable.

I had the Yaki niku don (RM13), beef in garlic sauce over rice. The beef itself was tasty, but the portion was small in comparison to the huge amount of rice that came with this dish.

Pork-free.

Nippori Cafe, Empire Damansara, PJ

Tucked away on the first floor of Empire Damansara's Heritage Lane is Nippori, a charming Japanese restaurant with a cosy, relaxed ambiance. This hidden gem is run by the Fukuzato family, with a menu focusing on lovingly prepared Japanese home-style food.

We were warmly greeted by the service staff and led into the cosy, quaint restaurant. There are tatami seats with round tables at the front of the restaurant, with lots of natural lighting flowing in through the large windows or tables through the back of the restaurant to cater for larger groups.

The food is freshly prepared everyday using quality ingredients, with no MSG or artificial flavouring added. From the a la carte menu, diners can choose from various appetizers, salads, sashimi, makimono, sushi, handroll, Japanese sandwich, wafu pizza, grill, deep fried, rice and noodles. Nippori also offer great value for money set menus, with prices starting from RM30.

To start, we had the Thick cut trout sashimi (RM38) which came with five impressively thick slices of salmon sashimi. The salmon trout is air-flown in from Norway three times a week to guarantee freshness of the produce. Absolutely luscious!

Nippori-style Caesar salad with homemade dressing (RM28)

The set menus are highly popular with their guests as they offer a complete meal with main(s), chawanmushi, miso soup, rice, salad, nimono, tsukemono and fresh fruits.

One of the recommended sets is the Grilled salmon and chicken karaage set (RM48). This came with two pieces of salmon fillet, which was nicely grilled so it was still moist with crispy skin. I love chicken karaage, and this is possibly one of the best I've tried in KL - the chicken was so juicy and the skin was deliciously crisp.

Another bestseller here is the Deep fried fish tartar and salmon sashimi set (RM48). The batter was nice and crisp, and the fish was topped with Nippori's special Japanese tartar sauce. This set also comes with five thick slices of salmon sashimi.

We also had the Unagi hitsumabushi and salmon sashimi set (RM65) which arrived in a two tier bento wooden box. The staff kindly explained how to enjoy this dish - we were to remove some of the unagi and rice to the empty serving bowl and pour hot tea over and eat it chazuke-style. Baby D loved this and proceeded to finish the whole portion of the unagi rice. This set also comes with salmon sashimi.

Nippori is also doing a Hambagu promotion currently. Hambagu is Japanese-style hamburger, usually eaten with white rice. We had the Original Japanese hamburger rice set (RM38), a juicy chicken burger with Nippori's homemade Japanese-style BBQ sauce and a sunny side egg on top. Nippori is also offering hambagu with cheddar cheese sauce, white cheese garlic sauce and cheese lava red sauce (tomato).

Honey peach soda (RM13), Kyoho grape soda (RM12), Yuzu soda (RM12), Strawberry frozen (RM13)

Reservations recommended, book your table online here:

House of Pok 小猪猪, Mid Valley, KL

Last week when we visited Mid Valley, we decided to try House of Pok 小猪猪 which we have walked past several times. The restaurant is usually busy after 12pm on weekdays, as that's when the office crowd will start flocking in. Service is pretty quick though, since most of the dishes are pre-prepared and they only need to plate it up and serve.

As the restaurant's name suggest, they specialise in various Asian (particularly Chinese) pork dishes as well as a couple of chicken, vegetables and tofu dishes. The meat dishes are priced at RM7.90 each (Dish A) while the non-meat ones are usually RM4.90 (Dish B), if you order a la carte. You can also order them as a set meal, with prices starting from RM10.90 for 2 dishes, rice/porridge and two side dishes. On weekdays (11am - 3pm), you also get a free drink (sour plum or Chinese tea) with your set meal.

Some of the pork dishes that we tried here include Nam yu fried pork, Chinese wine minced pork, Shanghai style braised trotters, and Trotters with special vinegar sauce. The pork dishes overall were good, except the latter - trotters were tender and but the vinegar sauce was not to my liking as it tasted quite diluted. We also had one of the chicken dishes - Thai crispy chicken chop - big fail as it was served cold so the chicken was hard as a rock though the pickled cucumber and carrots that came with it was nice and appetizing. Baby C likes eggs, so she also ordered the Braised signature eggs. The two side dishes were deep fried beancurd and pickles.

Free drink with your set meal on weekdays

Overall, the meal here was enjoyable - good for grabbing a quick lunch and prices are affordable for mall setting.

Cash terms only.

Opening times: 10am to 10pm daily.

Price: Total bill RM47.40.

Location: House of Pok, Level 4, T-041B, Mid Valley Megamall, Lingkaran Syed Putra, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

During our stay at Estadia Hotel, we also checked out their Jom Makan promotion at Makan Nyonya restaurant. The new promotion, available daily (Monday to Sunday) from 12pm until 10.30pm, features five different set meals for only RM16, and is inclusive of a glass of iced lemon tea.

Makan Nyonya, Estadia Melaka

The dishes which you can choose from are the Kam Heong Pasta, Ayam Percik Taliwang with Rice, Oriental Chicken Chop, Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken and Nyonya Curry Fish with Rice. We went for the first four dishes, since we've already tried their nyonya asam curry for dinner the night before. Out of these dishes, my personal favourite was the Ayam Percik Taliwang, which comes with a whole, juicy grilled chicken leg with the most amazing, flavorful percik sauce.  Spicy, savoury and sweet, all in one!

Ayam Percik Taliwang - highly recommended!
