Happy Halloween 2017 from BabySumoFamily

BOO! Happy Halloween from BabySumoFamily.

Introducing Count Dancula.. the 666th generation of Danpires.

It was actually Baby D's idea to be a vampire this year. He lost both his upper front teeth just in time for Halloween so it looks like he has mini fangs. Hubby DIY-ed his vampire cloak using a black apron and some red cloth. Some dark eye makeup and blood completes the look ;)

Here's Coco Cat.... a witch's black cat ;)

Spooky or frightfully adorable?

So the kids decided, "Mummy, you should be a mummy. That would be perfect!"

If you scroll back to the first photo, you will see that Hubby cleverly made the artwork to illustrate the Halloween characters we're dressing up as this year.

Annual Halloween Game... eating toast off a line. LOL! We played it one year and the kids enjoyed it, so we've been doing it every year ever since.

And this Halloween poster is made by Baby C using an app... clever girl!

Hope you have a spooktacular Halloween.

Here are some recipes for Halloween: Halloween eyeball pasta with blood sauce, Halloween ghost and bat cookies, Spooktacular Halloween coffin cake and Frozen Banana Ghost Pops.

Recipe: Halloween Eyeball Pasta with Blood Sauce

Every year in the run up to Halloween, we would make Halloween crafts and bakes with the kids. This year, we decided to serve up this gruesome Eyeball pasta with Blood Sauce,  perfect for your Halloween dinner.

First, you will need to make the bloody brain sauce. I used minced chicken, you can also use minced beef if you prefer. Simmer the chicken together with the tomato sauce as well as diced carrots and onions for about 10-15 minutes while you cook the spaghetti. For the eyeballs, you can use mozzarella balls aka bocconcini (you can get them from here) - I cut out some circular basil leaves and then topped it with an edible sugar eyeball (which I removed before eating though) so it looks more realistic.

Toss the cooked spaghetti in the blood sauce, then plate. When plating, it's okay to make a mess to create that gory look. Top with the eyeballs and serve. You can also add some thinly sliced basil leaves to add some "fungus" to the dish.

Happy Halloween from BabySumoFamily!

The Grim Reaper likes my eyeball pasta , I think?

Spooky yet tasty eyeball pasta

Halloween Eyeball Pasta with Blood Sauce
Recipe by Baby Sumo
Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 20 minutes
Serves 2

Ingredients
150g spaghetti
1 can (300g) traditional pasta sauce
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
125g chicken breast, minced
1/4 carrot, cubed
1 onion, finely chopped
6 bocconcini
Sweet basil
Edible eyes
Salt and freshly ground pepper
Grana Padano or Parmesan, to garnish

1. For the blood sauce: In a large saucepan or wok, heat the olive oil over medium high heat. Add the garlic and onion and saute for about 1 1/2 minutes, then add the chicken and carrot and cook for a further 3-4 minutes.

2. Then, add the tomato sauce and bring to the boil. Then, lower to medium heat and simmer for about 10 minutes. You can add about 1/4 cup of water if you prefer to have more sauce. Season with salt and pepper.

3. In a separate pot, bring a pot of salted water to the boil over medium high heat. Cook spaghetti for about 8-10 minutes, until al dente. Drain.

4. Toss the pasta in the blood sauce and then divide into 2 plates. Grate Parmesan cheese all over and then garnish with thinly sliced basil leaves.

5. Cut 6 small circles from the basil leaves. Place 3 bocconcini on each plate, then top with the basil leaves and edible eyes. Serve hot.

Nick or Treat @ Sunway Lagoon Malaysia - Kids Treat for FREE!

Halloween is coming! This year, Sunway Lagoon is celebrating Halloween themed weekends for the young ones with a special "Nick or Treat" promo, whereby kids treat for FREE with every paying adult at RM170. Happening every Friday to Sunday, there will be spooktacular Halloween themed activities such as Meet and Greet with Nickelodeon characters, Halloweenie Games and free Nick or Treat goodie bags.

The theme park is decked out in Boo-tiful Halloween decor, so lots of photo opportunities to be had. Our son had fun taking photos with all the scary and also not-so-scary chacracters such as Ghostbuster and pumpkin carvings.

Our first stop was the Pet Village, where we fed the rabbits, hamsters and tortoise and also indulged in some Longkang Fishing before heading to Nickelodeon Lost Lagoon.

Cute Prairie Dog

Meerkat says "Look, I'm cute too!".

As always, we had a splashing good time here on the giant water slides at Spongebob Splash Adventure. We had so much fun, that we almost missed the first Meet and Greet session with Spongebob and Patrick at 12 noon.

Look at them, looking adorable in their spooky Halloween costume. After each Meet and Greet session, the kids were delighted to receive a Nick or Treat goodie bag, consisting of Pocky or lollipop, Eclipse mints and Cadbury chocolate.

We were also excited to meet Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles at 12.30pm. The team arrived in style in their Shellraiser, the 1st of its kind in Asia.

While my adventurous kids and Hubby went on more water rides around the park, I chilled at the shaded seating area. They came back with stories of their exciting times on the Jungle Fury, Kubarango and Primeval.

There will also be Halloweenie Games at the Explorer's Campsite from 3.30pm - 4.00pm, such as Spongebob Frankenstein Needs a Brain, Bag O Bones and Spider Race.

Last 3 rides at the Amusement Park before heading home - Grand Canyon River Rapids, Colorado Splash and Vultures.

Check out this video of our amazing day out at Sunway Lagoon :)

Recipe: Halloween Ghost & Bat Cookies

Happy Halloween guys!

For Halloween this year, Hubby made these Halloween ghost and bat cookies. You can get the cookie cutters from Daiso, if I remember correctly, they also have cat and pumpkin cookie cutters. We decided to use the German cookie recipe from our blog and adapted to suit. German cookies are quite crumbly, so the idea is that it "disintegrates" and "disappears" easily in your mouth, suiting the Halloween theme well.

Here's what Baby C had to say about it:

Hello I am Baby C. I like to eat German cookies. They are yummy and soft. It is yummy when you eat them with milk. My daddy made these German cookies using Halloween cookie cutters for our dessert.Yum yum.

Happy Halloween from Baby Sumo Family (artwork credit: Hubby)

Halloween German Cookies
Recipe by Baby Sumo, adapted from here
Preparation time: 40 minutes
Cooking time: 15-17 minutes
Makes about 30

Ingredients
125g butter, softened at room temperature
40g icing sugar, sifted
125g potato starch/flour, sifted
80g plain flour, sifted

Black food colouring
White and black sesame seeds

1. Preheat oven to 170°C (no fan). Line 2 baking trays with greaseproof paper.

2. Using an electric mixer, beat the butter and icing sugar until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.

3. Add the potato starch and plain flour, and mix to form a soft dough. If it looks too sticky, add a little more flour, about 1 tablespoonful. You should be able to pinch some off with your fingers and roll into a ball easily.

4. Divide the dough into half. Add a few drops of black food colouring to half of the dough and mix well.

5. Roll into balls, place on the baking tray and then flatten with your fingers. Then using the cookie cutter, cut into desired shapes (black dough for bats). Repeat until dough is all used up. Decorate with sesame seeds (use black for the ghost eyes and white for the bat eyes).

5. Bake in preheated oven for 15-17 mins. Allow to cool on baking tray and store in a tupperware once cooled.

Note: These cookies taste best after they have been stored for at least 24 hours.

Happy Halloween 2015

Hello! What did you get up to this Halloween?

We put on make-up / play dress-up

Baby C's two front teeth came loose just in time for Halloween! What timing.

Kids decorated a pumpkin

Hubby arranged all our Halloween crafts nicely...

Kids went out with their grandparents for a bit.... got their face/hand painted

Came home and we made worms crawling out of soil... a nice and easy Halloween treat - just crush Oreo cookies for soil. Reserve the white cream filling and make a ghost, then pour soil in a bowl and throw worms on top.

We played Halloween Bingo...

Happy Halloween!

Say hello to Mr. Frankenstein
