Recipe: Ayam Masak Merah

๐€๐ฒ๐š๐ฆ ๐Œ๐š๐ฌ๐š๐ค ๐Œ๐ž๐ซ๐š๐ก, translated as red cooked chicken, is a Malay dish whereby chicken is cooked with chilli paste (cili giling) and tomato puree. I usually make it with chicken fillet or chicken breast cos they cook quicker (and that's the cut my family likes eating). You can serve it with Nasi tomato and acar jelatah.. super yum!

Recipe by Baby Sumo
Preparation time: 10 mins
Cooking time: 30 mins
Serves 4

Ingredients
400g chicken fillet or breast, cut into large chunks
1/2 tsp turmeric powder
1/4 tsp salt
2 tbsp cooking oil
2 tbsp cili giling
1 tsp chicken stock powder
1 tbsp sugar
1/2 cup Cirio finely chopped tomatoes / tomato puree
1/2 yellow onion
1 tomato, cut into 8
1/4 cup frozen peas
1 cinnamon stick
1 star anise
2 cardamom pods

To blend
3 cloves garlic
2 shallots
1/2 yellow onion
2 tbsp water

1. Marinate chicken with turmeric and salt for 10 minutes.

2. Place ingredients to blend in a blender or mini food chopper and blend until you get a fine paste. 

3. In a wok, heat oil. Add chicken and cook for 4-5 mins, until no longer pink and evenly browned on all sides. Remove and set aside.

4. Add cinnamon stick, star anise and cardamom pods and saute for 2 mins until fragrant. Add blended ingredients from (2) and saute for 4-5 mins. Add cili giling and saute for further 2-3 mins.

5. Add tomato puree / finely chopped tomatoes and season with sugar and chicken stock powder. Return cooked chicken back to wok and add onions, tomato and frozen peas. Cook for another 8-10 mins, until sauce has thickened. Serve with nasi tomato or nasi minyak, along with acar jelatah.

Recipe: Fried Beancurd Roll (Dim Sum)

These ๐…๐ซ๐ข๐ž๐ ๐๐ž๐š๐ง๐œ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ ๐‘๐จ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฌ are something we always order at the dim sum restaurant. Tried my hand at making them at home last weekend in the air fryer and they turned out amazing! The filling is a mix of store bought fish paste, chopped prawns and chives. If you don’t have an air fryer, you can shallow fry them in oil (180°C) for a few mins until golden.

Preparation time: 20-30 mins
Cooking time: 20 mins
Makes 7-8

Ingredients
18g beancurd sheet, cut into 15x15cm sheets (7-8 pcs)
Cooking spray

For the filling
200g premium fish paste
10g chives
4 peeled prawns

For the glue
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 tbsp water

For the mayo dipping sauce
1 tbsp mayonnaise
1 tbsp evaporated creamer
1 tsp honey


1. In a bowl, mix the ingredients for the filling. Then, slap the ingredients into the bowl for about 5 mins, until the filling is sticky and bouncy.

2. Make the glue by mixing the ingredients together. Set aside.

3. Place one beancurd sheet on a flat surface. Using a damp cloth, wipe the beancurd sheet on both sides (wipe at least 2-3 times to remove excess salt. Wiping it will also make it more pliable). Place about one tablespoonful of filling onto the sheet, about 1 cm from the sides and 2cm from bottom. Fold the bottom upwards. Using your fingers, apply glue around the edges and then fold to form a parcel. (watch video here to learn how to fold the rolls). Repeat for other sheets until filling is used up.

4. Spray air fryer with some cooking spray. Place beancurd rolls in a single layer in air fryer, then spray again with more cooking spray. Cook in air fryer at 180°C for 20 mins until beancurd is crispy.

5. Meanwhile, place all ingredients for dipping sauce in a bowl and mix well.

6. Serve the beancurd rolls hot with the mayo dipping sauce. We usually cut each roll into half with scissors.

Tip: Make sure to wipe the beancurd sheets a few times to remove excess salt from the sheets, otherwise it will be very salty.

Recipe: Kuey Teow Ladna

๐Š๐ฎ๐ž๐ฒ ๐“๐ž๐จ๐ฐ ๐‹๐š๐๐ง๐š is the Thai equivalent of Cantonese wat tan hor. Ladna in Thai language means “pour on the face” which means the noodles are first cooked then egg gravy is poured on top.

This noodle dish is made using thick kuey teow noodles along with your choice of prawns, squid, chicken and fish cake. The main difference I could see with Cantonese wat tan hor is that kuey teow Ladna usually has carrots and chilli. Do enlighten me if there are any other ingredients I have missed.

Recipe by Baby Sumo
Preparation time: 10 mins
Cooking time: 10-15 mins
Serves 2-3

Ingredients
2 tbsp cooking oil
2 cloves garlic, finely chopped
6-8 prawns
2 fish cake, sliced
150g bok choy or choy sum, sliced
1/3 carrot, cut into matchsticks
1/3 red chilli, sliced

For the noodles
1 pack (450g) thick kuey teow, strands loosened
1 tbsp cooking oil
1 tbsp dark soy sauce
1 tbsp light soy sauce

For the sauce
600ml boiling water
1 tbsp chicken stock concentrate
1 tbsp oyster sauce
1 1/2 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 3 tbsp water
2 eggs
1/2 tsp light soy sauce
A dash of white pepper


1. In a wok, heat oil and add dark soy sauce and light soy sauce. Then, add noodles and stir to coat well with sauce. Cook for a few mins until noodles are cooked through. Divide noodles on two to three plates (depending on how many servings you are making).

2. In the same wok, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over high heat. Add the prawns and cooked for 2-3 mins, until cooked through. Remove and set aside.

3. Beat eggs with 1/2 tsp of light soy sauce and a dash of white pepper.

4. In the same wok, heat 1 tablespoon of oil over high heat. Then, add the garlic and saute for 1 minute, until lightly browned. Then, add the water and chicken stock concentrate. Add fish cake, carrot, oyster sauce and bok choy. Return cooked prawns to wok. Then, add cornstarch slurry to thicken sauce. Finally, lower heat, and add the eggs and stir to form egg strands. Add red chilli.

5. Divide sauce between the plates and serve immediately.

Unveils Faster Delivery, Enhanced AI Chatbot, and Industry-Leading Customer Service

Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, doubles down on operational and logistics investments in the country as it maintains its #1 marketplace position by average monthly active users and total time spent in-app. Shopee’s commissioned study with Kantar revealed recently that 70% of the platform’s buyers across Southeast Asia are now 32 years old and below (Generation Z), spending an average of 30 minutes on its app daily*.


Over 2023, Shopee enhanced fundamental capabilities to create seamless and safe experiences targeted to these digitally savvy buyers. This included providing Malaysians with faster and more flexible delivery options, such as Next Day delivery, Instant Delivery, and increased Shopee collection points for self-collection.


Shopee’s Customer Service Team Empowered to Problem Solve with Dashboards


Malaysian users shopping or selling on the app contacted Shopee’s customer service team 9.5 million times with questions in 2023 these cases were resolved within 30 seconds 98% of the time with success — and with 80% customer service satisfaction rate, the highest across industries.


The first point of contact for most Malaysians has typically been with Shopee’s proprietary AI chatbot, affectionately named Sophie (after the company’s mascot). Sophie’s neuro-linguistic programming was enhanced to help users along the way by recognising relevant intents, anticipating queries based on users’ live interactions, and providing more granular solutions based on a localised management playbook. In 2023, Sophie’s successful closure rate doubled, such that it resolved 80% of cases satisfactorily from 18 million chats handled before routing them to live customer service agents.


On this front, Shopee optimised the number of customer service agents available, and boosted their processes, training, and incentives so that even with the volume of questions throughout peak e-commerce shopping periods, end-to-end resolutions across cases of various complexities took less than a day to resolve and abandonment rate (dropped calls) were nearly zero at the end of 2023.


In fact, Shopee’s customer service agents received one of the best in market monthly incentives for good performance. They were also equipped with SOP Assistant Tool that empowered front line agents to solve more cases based on internal information and turned them into decision making experts using first-party CRM data across the platform.


Shopee’s Customer Service Team Celebrates Record User Satisfaction Rates 


Shopee’s customer service team often receives personalised feedback such as, “Very fast response from the team. Thanks a lot. I preferred using Shopee [over competitor], due to its simpler refund process. Thanks Shopee ❤️” and “I appreciate your hard work! Customer service strives for prompt and efficient response. Thank you for acknowledging my concerns.”


“Users should use the Shopee Guarantee period wisely to track the status of their shipments and then check whether the products delivered meet their requirements. If users cannot use Seller Chat to resolve any issues with sellers directly, they should contact Shopee’s customer service agents directly. Shoppers can also report products using the Menu for seller features tab in the right corner of any product listing in order to help keep the community safe, as Shopee holds all sellers to high standards of responsible selling,’ explained Sern-Li Lim, Head of Operations at Shopee Malaysia.


In 2024, Shopee continues to enhance the capabilities of its logistics ecosystem to support faster shipping to buyers. Shopee’s logistics partner SPX has expanded warehouse facilities and will operate seven days a week. Shopee is also working closely with brands, sellers, and partners to aim for 95% of orders to be shipped out in the same day.


Moreover, Shopee has spearheaded a comprehensive and fuss-free returns policy to give millions of Malaysians confidence when looking to check out their desired products, including high-value goods, that they cannot touch or feel when shopping online. First, by enhancing the Return Refunds process so that it is much easier and shorter, completing in only two and a half days (compared to the retail industry sector benchmark of seven days), with two times more drop-off points and doorstep pick-up option. Second, by expanding its Change of Mind free returns, no questions asked policy from 19 March 2024 for more products and items, providing additional flexibility throughout the shopping journey during the 15-day Shopee Guarantee period.


A #ShopSafeWithShopee survey of 1,000 Malaysian shoppers aged 18 and above found that nine out of ten utilise platform features like Shopee Live demos, seller chat, Shopee Mall's Authentic Deals circle, and Shopee Guarantee to ensure safe online shopping transactions**.

Recipe: Ma Yi Shang Shu ่š‚่šไธŠๆ ‘ (Ants Climbing a Tree)

๐Œ๐š ๐˜๐ข ๐’๐ก๐š๐ง๐  ๐’๐ก๐ฎ ่š‚่šไธŠๆ ‘ literally translated as “Ants Climbing a Tree”. Don’t worry, no ants were hurt in the making of this dish. It’s actually a classic Sichuan dish containing glass noodles which is supposed to resemble a tree, minced pork for the ants and spring onions for the leaves on a tree. Haha I don’t see the resemblance at all but hey it’s a delicious dish. 




It's slightly spicy from the doubanjiang (chilli bean sauce), the same sauce used to make mapo tofu. Very flavorful, and makes a quick lovely lunch/dinner meal.

Recipe by Baby Sumo
Preparation time: 5 mins
Cooking time: 10 mins
Serves 1

Ingredients
50g glass noodles (1 piece), soaked in hot water for 5 mins
60g minced pork
1/2 cup water
2 cloves garlic
1 tsp grated ginger
1 tbsp cooking oil
3 stalks spring onion, finely chopped

Seasoning
1 tsp doubanjiang (chilli bean sauce)
1 tsp light soy sauce
1/2 tsp dark soy sauce
1/2 tsp sugar
1/4 tsp chicken stock powder

For marinating the pork
1/2 tsp light soy sauce
1/2 tsp Shaoxing wine
White pepper

1.  Marinate pork for 5-10 mins.

2. In a pan or wok, heat oil over medium high heat. Add garlic and ginger, and saute for 2 mins, until lightly golden. Add pork and brown. Then, add seasoning and water, cook for a few mins until sauce has been absorbed into the noodles. Add spring onions and give it a quick stir.

Recipe: Thai-style Steamed Fish with Lime Juice & Garlic

If you love Thai-style ๐’๐ญ๐ž๐š๐ฆ๐ž๐ ๐…๐ข๐ฌ๐ก ๐ฐ๐ข๐ญ๐ก ๐‹๐ข๐ฆ๐ž ๐‰๐ฎ๐ข๐œ๐ž & ๐†๐š๐ซ๐ฅ๐ข๐œ aka Pla Kapong Neung Manao เธ›เธฅเธฒเธเธฐเธžเธ‡เธ™ึ่เธ‡เธกเธฐเธ™เธฒเธง , you can try recreating it at home at a fraction of restaurant prices. The best fish to use for this dish would be siakap, also known as barramundi / Asian seabass which you can get easily in Malaysia. The sauce should be a balance of spicy, sweet and sour flavours ๐Ÿ˜‹ Easy, delicious and appetising!

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Serves 3-4


Ingredients
500g siakap fish (barramundi), cleaned and gutted
1 stalk lemongrass, bruised
6 stalks coriander, separate leaves and stalks

For the lime sauce
1/2 cup hot water
1 tsp chicken stock powder
2 tbsp brown or palm sugar
2 red cili padi
5 cloves garlic
3 tbsp lime juice
1 tbsp fish sauce


1. To make sauce, first pour boiling water into a measuring jug, then dissolve the chicken stock powder and sugar. Then, add rest of the ingredients and mix well. The sauce should be sour, slightly spicy and sweet - adjust seasoning to your liking, using more lime juice, cili padi or sugar.

2. Pat the fish dry with a kitchen towel. Score the fish three times on both sides. Stuff the cavity of the fish the lemongrass. Place fish on a heatproof plate. Steam on high heat for 10 minutes.

3 . Place coriander stalks on side of the fish. Pour sauce over the fish. Then, garnish with coriander and serve.

Shopee’s 2024 Fashion Show, ‘Raya Stail Kita’, Celebrates Malaysia’s Golden Age of Culture

 Shopee, the leading e-commerce platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, on 5th March 2024, unveiled its #ShopeeRaiLokal Raya Stail Kita fashion show on Shopee Live, to inspire Malaysians nationwide to dress well and buy local. Themed ‘Tarakucha Retro’, Shopee collaborated with long-term sellers, celebrities, and influencers to style Malaysians for three 2024 trends this Raya: kek lapis, burnt orange, and nostalgia with a twist. 




“This fashion show is a love letter to the golden days of P. Ramlee and Saloma,” said Shopee Head of Marketing, Kenneth Soh. “By design, fashion and beauty on Shopee are deliberately wholesome and inclusive for all Malaysians who need to balik kampung, pay respects to their elders, and attend Raya celebrations all over the country with dignity. With Raya Stail Kita, Malaysians can now dress with style and support their local sellers.”


A departure from run-of-the-mill fashion shows, Shopee’s runway slowed down the models’ catwalks to teach audiences nationwide how different garments could be styled from a variety of brands for each look to coordinate with their whole families. 


Ten Shopee muslim fashion sellers, namely Asikin Ahmad, Liyana Collection, Adnaa, Indah Pesona, Hernes, Inhanna, Zoe Arissa, Panda Eyes, Bayu Somerset, and Mikaseries by Zoey Rahman. Habib Jewels joined forces in the spirit of gotong-royong to sponsor outfits and accessories to complete the looks. 


Sponsoring brands lending their generosity to the event included beauty and skincare names such as Y.O.U, SimplySiti, Silkygirl, Wardah, Papa Feel, Mikaseries, lemooc, Emina, Dazzle Me, barenbliss, Alha Alfa, and AISASEA.


Body positive model Hikma Al Hassan headlined Shopee’s inclusive and affordable looks that were curated based on how Malaysians are shopping for their Baju Raya online. With its first look, Kek Lapis, Shopee called for Malaysians to experiment with unconventional layering of colors, prints, and textures. As popularized by Intan Najuwa at her wedding recently, Shopee then presented various ways to dress Burnt Orange this season for both men and women of various skin tones. The final look, Nostalgia Balik Kampung, encapsulated a rich tapestry of traditional and retro styles familiar to every Malaysian.


Kiffy Razak, Managing Editor of NONA, Hijabista, and Mingguan Wanita,  gave her styling advice on how Malaysians could tap into popular trends and dress up these looks: “Incorporating a dash of kek lapis color blocking, lively yet chic orange or nostalgia in one’s ensemble while integrating a bit of glam and a classic touch to perfect the look will provide an excellent nod to Raya trends this year. More importantly, it’s about interpreting and styling it in a way that reflects your best and true self as well as respecting values and cherished traditions you hold dear in celebration of Eid.”


Shopee is dedicated to offering a diverse and wholesome range of fashion choices for the whole family. Dato’ Jovian Mandagie, a Fashion Designer who also has Shopee Celebrity Squad store on Shopee, echoes this sentiment with his expert take: “Aidilfitri is a celebration of love and victory over Ramadan, whether you're at a kampung house or a city ballroom. Dress comfortably with modesty in mind. Avoid overdressing that will lead you looking like a Christmas Tree. Five in ten embrace the layer cake Raya trend, four in ten buy retro outfits and the remainder search burnt orange. SHABU-YO Setia City Mall: Now with Unlimited Sushi!

SHABU-YO is an authentic all-you-can-eat shabu-shabu and sukiyaki restaurant originating from Japan. We recently visited the Setia City Mall outlet, which is spacious and comfortable, along with good and fast service.

There are three courses to choose from; Australian Wagyu-Pork-Chicken, Beef-Pork-Chicken and Pork-Chicken. Prices start from RM43.90++ for 90-min dining time for lunch.  If you choose either one of the beef courses, you will also get to enjoy unlimited nigiri sushi (made-to-order); prices start from RM53.90++ for adults. Ordering is via tablet at the table; pretty straightforward and meats are usually delivered to your table within 2-3 minutes. You can also help yourself to as many servings of fresh vegetable, noodles, rice, fried items and dessert at the buffet spread.

There are 7 types of soups to choose from; from their limited edition Golden soup (pumpkin flavour) to their signature sukiyaki, karamiso and Japanese amber soup. We tried the Yuzu soup, tomato soup, Chicken & pork soup and sukiyaki soup and they were all nice. You can also make your own dipping sauce at the sauce condiment station. 





We tried the Australian Wagyu course (RM93.90++ per adult) which comes with unlimited servings of Australian Wagyu karubi, beef chuck roll, beef karubi, pork collar, pork belly, chicken and tsukune. Our favourites are definitely the wagyu (nice marbling, tender) and pork belly.





Sushi choices include inari, tamago, salmon, salmon belly, aburi salmon, ebi, ika and unagi. We had multiple orders of the unagi and salmon, yummy!

For dessert, you can enjoy freshly made waffles (kids had fun making their own), or shaved ice or matcha/vanilla soft-serve ice cream. Drinks are also included in the price.
