Majestic Banana Leaf, Semenyih

We were in Semenyih recently and dropped by Majestic Banana Leaf located in Eco Majestic for lunch. Hubby and I had the banana leaf rice set (RM7 during Deepavali, normal price RM8.50) which comes with rice, 3 different types of vegetables, your choice of curries (mutton, chicken or dhal) as well as papadam and rasam. Banana leaf rice is available daily from 11.45 am onwards.

We also had the mutton varuval (RM8) and chicken 65 (RM6.50). We enjoyed the mutton, nice and tender, and quite a generous portion.

Our kids had the roti canai (RM1.50) which are freshly made to order. Nice and crisp, with nice accompanying dhal and curry.

Service here is good and friendly too. Air-conditioned and clean restaurant. Overall, a good, positive experience.

Rabbit Fun Land, Semenyih

* Update Dec 2016 - Please note that Rabbit Fun Land is no longer operational at Broga Hill and has moved to Lot 1556, Mukim Lenggeng, 71750 Lenggeng, Negeri Sembilan (Waze:Rabbit Fun Land, Setil Lenggeng). Entrance fee is RM8. Open Sat, Sun and PH only from 11am to 6.30pm.

We first attempted to visit Rabbit Fun Land on a weekday, however when we got there, it was closed. We later found out that they only open during weekends, and it's only open during weekdays for pre-arranged school trips and such.

Rabbit Fun Land is located in Semenyih opposite Broga Hill, and is the largest rabbit farm in Malaysia. Entry fee is RM5 per person, however they charge RM10 for a small packet of carrots. And it's not much fun if you enter without carrots, as there is pretty much nothing to do here except for feeding the animals. They also offer pony rides for RM8 per child.

They have some rabbits in an open compound, however most of them weren't interested in the carrot sticks (we suspect that they were full as they had been fed all morning by other people LOL). There are white, grey and brown rabbits. Further along, there are also rabbits kept in cages.

Other than rabbits, they also have other animals such as horses, geese, cows, donkeys, deers, goats and monkeys. So it's a nice place to bring your kids and show different farm animals to them. The place is not that big, so you could be done in 30-45 minutes. For more animal variety, you can check out Farm in the City (link here).

They have a suspended bridge for kids to play on too

After that, we drove down the road to Ladybird Organic Farm (about 2 mins away) to visit some other farm animals (geese, rabbit and chickens). No entry fee here. You can also show vegetable seedlings and organic fruits and vegetables to your children. Check out this post for more photos.

See the giant hanging fruit behind Baby D? They're yellow passion fruits...  first time encountering this!

A restaurant worth checking out when you're in Semenyih - Restoran 52.

Restoran 52, Semenyih, Selangor

A couple of weeks ago, we were in Broga, Semenyih with our kids to visit Rabbit Fun Land and Ladybird Organic Farm. After that, we took a slow drive (about 10 minutes) to Restoran 52 for lunch. We have been craving salted egg squid and heard that they do a nice version here.

The restaurant is located in a housing area in a converted home, so there is limited parking spaces. Most people just park at the road side. Their menu is in English and there are also some pictures of their signature dishes in there, so ordering was pretty painless.

We ordered the kam heong lala (RM15), the sauce was lovely with the white rice, and the lala (clams) were fresh.

We also ordered the deep fried tofu (RM12), we were told that this is made in-house. Soft on the inside and crispy on the exterior.

Finally, the salted egg squid (RM15) that we have been waiting for arrived... we were very impressed with the generous portion. Tastewise, it was very good... crispy, crunchy and flavorful. I like! Baby D kept asking for more "super rings" LOL cos it look like the snack with the same name. :P

Verdict: Nice homestyle food at a reasonable price.

Opening times: 11am to 5pm daily. Closed on Mondays.

Price: Total bill RM54.90 (inclusive rice and tea).

Location: Restoran 52, 52 Jalan Sungai Lalang, Kampung Baru Semenyih, 43500 Semenyih, Selangor. (Waze: Restoran 52 Semenyih)

Tel: 03-8723 8733

A Day Out with Kids in Semenyih + Recipe for Organic Tomato-Basil Salsa

A couple of months ago, during the school holidays, we wanted to take our kids to the Rabbit Fun Land in Semenyih, but when we got there the place was closed for the day. Kids were really disappointed as they were looking forward to see and feed the rabbits.

On our way in, we noticed a signboard for Ladybird Organic Farm so we went there to have a look. And thank God we did, as they had a small section in the farm whereby they have animals such as rabbits, geese and chicken. Hurrah! :D This put a huge smile on our kids face once again.

Hello rabbits, pleased to meet you :)

Geese

Rooster

Other than visiting the animals, we also got to experience how organic vegetables are cultivated here. Definitely an eye-opener for the kids. First the seeds are sowed into these mini containers, then moved to the plots once they are bigger.

They also have various fruit trees such as papaya..

A lovely day out

Feeding time :)

All in all, a great experience for the kids to learn about how vegetables and fruits are grown. There is no entrance fee and they even encourage people to pluck their own vegetables. We bought some organic cherry tomatoes, kailan and nai pak before leaving.  They also have various herbs for sale such as misai kucing, Sabah snake grass, and angelica keiskei. They also deliver their products to Klang Valley, for more info please see their website here.

Note to parents: It can get quite hot here, so do bring a hat and plenty of water for your kids.

For lunch, we stopped by at a food court called Restoran 77, not far from the farm (at the main road, opposite the Kuil Sri Subramaniar). We randomly ordered some food to share - wantan mee (RM4.30), fishball noodle (RM4.50), Penang char koay teow (RM4), and a plate of char siew (RM5). Pretty decent food and the stall operators are really friendly.

For dinner, we had stir fried organic nai pak that we bought from the farm, and Hubby also made a fresh tomato-basil salsa, which we had with pita bread and minced pork (recipe here). Really tasty! Here's the recipe:
