TWG Tea Malaysia, Pavilion KL

Earlier this year, thanks to our charming kids, we were picked as the lucky winners for TWG Tea's contest. The prize was a bespoke dinner for 6, held at their outlet in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. We had a great time, thanks to their attentive staff as well as the delicious food and tea.

To start, we had the Soup du Jour (RM13), which was potato and leek soup on our visit. The petite portion was just nice to whet our appetites.

For mains, we had a choice of Wagyu burger, lasagne or seafood linguine, all of which are accentuated with tea in some form. These dishes are some of the more popular dishes from their a la carte menu.

Most of us chose the Grilled Wagyu Burger (RM45) and I can see why it's a favorite here! Tender and juicy, the beef patty was sandwiched between homemade buns with lettuce, tomato and Emmental cheese. This is accompanied with matchstick fries as well as mesclun salad tossed in an 1837 Green Tea infused vinaigrette.

The Red Sea Linguine (RM41) came with prawns, mussels and calamari, tossed in a Red Chai infused tomato sauce.

The TWG Tea Lasagne (RM35.50) was hearty and delicious, a vegetarian lasagne with layers of pasta with spinach and mushroom and their signature homemade sauce infused with Morrocan Mint Tea.

For dessert, we were served a selection of sweets from their Grand High Tea Set, consisting of yam and pistachio sponge layer cake (my fav!), mandarin orange cheesecake, red choux with caramel ganache, peanut and white chocolate biscuit (like the ones you get during CNY) and macarons.

TWG Tea offers an impressive range of tea. Based on the staff's recommendation, we selected their Creme caramel, Eternal summer, Grand wedding and Silver moon. I loved the scent of the Eternal Summer and Grand wedding :)

Opening times: 10am to 10pm daily.

Location: TWG Tea Malaysia, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Level 2, Lot P2.16.00 & 2.34.01, 168, Jalan Bukit Bintang 55100 Kuala Lumpur.

Tel: 03-2142 9922

Laduree Malaysia, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur

It was at the height of the macaron craze, when we had our first taste of the world-renowned Laduree macarons in Paris. We fell in love with both the salted caramel and rose flavour, and have been lusting after them ever since.

Fast forward to four years later, Laduree has finally arrived in Malaysia. They recently opened their doors at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, bringing sweet treats and delicious desserts to our shores.

Such a pretty shop!

Earlier this week, Hubby and I visited Laduree to mark the start of his birthday month. From the pastries selection, we chose the Vanilla Millefeuille (RM25) as well as three macarons (RM12 each).

The Vanilla Mille Feuille may not be the prettiest dessert in store, but it was certainly delicious. Layers of luscious cream, flavoured with Madagascan vanilla sandwiched between crisp, light layers of cream puff pastry. We loved it, as it reminded us of our favorite custard slice in the UK.

For the macarons, there are more than 10 flavours to choose from, priced at RM12 each or RM18 for the premium ones (eg. gold chocolate). The macarons are air-flown from Paris.

One of the wait staff told us that they had salted caramel flavour, so we went for two of those and one rose petal. However, when I took my first bite of my "salted caramel", all I could taste was caramel and no salt. I was so disappointed :(

Later, I found out that they only have caramel flavour in store and not salted caramel. Thankfully, the rose petal was very good and made up for it. The textures of the macarons were as good as I remembered it, crisp and airy.

Opening times: 10am to 10pm daily.

Price: Total bill RM61.

Location: Laduree Malaysia, Lot 3.32, Level 3, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, 168 Jalan Bukit Bintang,55100 Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Tel: 03- 2110 3747

Saturday Night Vibes @ Shook! KL, Feast Village Starhill Gallery

Saturday nights just got better, thanks to Shook! Kuala Lumpur's all-new dining concept Saturday Night Vibes which brings fantastic food and electrifying live performances to diners, all under one roof. Introduced earlier this month, the Cirque du Culinaire experience features an extensive buffet spread as well as an ever-changing list of live performances and entertainment.

We just returned from our 49 days in Scotland, so we welcomed the invitation to spend some quality time together alone, sipping on wines while enjoying good food and music. A no-kids SaturDATE ;)

As soon as we were seated, our glasses were filled with our choice of wine and the wait staff also brought us their signature cocktail, the Aperol Spritz to kick start the evening.

There is simply so much to try on the buffet spread (available 7pm to 10pm). We were impressed with the vast Japanese selection featuring fresh sashimi (tuna, salmon, butterfish and kampachi), sushi, maki, tempura and teppanyaki. Seafood lovers will also be pleased with the selection of freshly shucked Pacific oysters, and various seafood on ice such as local lobster, half shell scallop, king prawns and flower crab.

For those who prefer their seafood cooked, indulge in the Oyster gratin, Crispy squid ring with salt and pepper, Kungpo style clams, Sweet and sour slipper lobster or Kam heong style bamboo clams.

Roast Duck

There are also freshly made pizzas, lobster risotto, as well as a variety of antipasti such as Eggplant and ricotta salad, Italian seafood salad, Baby octopus salad, Grilled artichoke and more.

Don't miss the grilled a la minute rib eye steak, the delicious crisp-yet-airy macarons (look out for the caramel ones) and the impressive cheese selection - my personal favourites from the buffet spread.

Grilled to perfection - medium doneness with a beautiful char

Other than the buffet spread, selected premium items are brought to your table allowing you to relax and enjoy the pampering while listening to the background music or be entertained by the guest magician. I was most happy when sang har meen was served to our table.. the Asian in me has been missing Chinese food immensely and this definitely hit the spot.I enjoyed it so much that I asked for seconds. ;)

We also enjoyed the Seafood paella, Braised Wagyu beef cheeks, Snow White dancing prawns, and Five-spice rack of lamb (beautifully pink and tender, served with truffle mash) immensely.

Come 9.30pm, a live act will take to the stage to entertain you while you digest your food. On the evening we were there, it was Evelyn Feroza who graced the stage and entertained diners with a mix of original tunes as well as renditions of well-loved classics and latest hits.  Do check out Shook! KL's websiteFacebook or Instagram page for the weekly performer line-up.

Thank you Shook! KL for having us and for the lovely evening ;)

The Cirque du Culinaire dining concept is available every Saturday night from 7pm to 10pm at RM168 nett. A beverage package is also available at RM88 nett which comes with selected cocktails as well as beers, wines and shooters. For non-diners, there will be a 1-for-1 Happy Hour from 9.30pm on selected draft beers, house wines and cocktails.

Go Ape Crathes Castle, Aberdeenshire, Scotland

We have a habit of picking up brochures when we're on holiday, as it is a good way to find activities for the kids to do. And this is how we found out about Go Ape, UK's No.1 Forest Adventure. The closest one to us was at the grounds of Crathes Castle, about 25 minutes drive away from Aberdeen. Located in the grounds of an enchanting 16th-century castle, Crathes is surrounded by 240 hectares of formal gardens, woodland walks and rolling Scottish countryside.

They offer the Junior Adventure as well as Tree Top Adventure here at Crathes. The Junior Adventure course is ideal for young kids (I would say 5-10 years old). At first glance, it may look deceivingly easy, but our kids found it both challenging and exciting. It costs £3.50 per child, which is an absolute steal, as it is unlimited play so your kids can play as long as they want. It is a fantastic way of spending a beautiful day outdoors. Some other locations may offer the Tree Top Junior which has more obstacles and crossings to enjoy.

Hubby and I had a little picnic at the grass area while the kids played. Highly recommend this activity for any young children looking for adventure and fun.

Kitted out in their safety harness and helmets, all ready for their adventure!

Lots of different crossings to challenge their young minds

Nets

This boy is so confident, after the first two rounds, he was zooming around like SuperDan.

Check him out here

Confident and brave young man

On the balancing beam... this is great for building up their confidence.

It may look easy,  but do not be fooled

While the kids played, we styled our macarons (macs are from here)

Stopping for a scone..

We enjoyed it so much that we came back again before our holiday in Scotland ended. :)

Another fun day! Click for video.

While the parents enjoyed the sunshine and got ready for our picnic in the sun

It is best to call before coming, as they do not offer the Junior Adventure when the place is understaffed.
