Hotel Review: Mövenpick Hotel & Convention Centre KLIA, Malaysia

One of the world's leading hotel brands made its debut in Malaysia last year with the opening of Mövenpick Hotel & Convention Centre KLIA. With a passion for 'making moments' for its guests, this is made possible at Mövenpick Hotel KLIA with its exceptional architecture and warm hospitality.

Designed by Amir Hamzah, Senior Associate at Malaysia's award-winning HIJJAS Architects + Planners, this landmark development will feature a distinctive architectural style, reflecting Malaysia’s rich cultural heritage and the hotel’s status as a Shariah-compliant property. It blends soft building forms while showcasing Islamic architecture designs. The exterior of the hotel features intricate patterns influenced by Islamic geometric art and Kufic script – the earliest style of Islamic calligraphy that was used to record the Qur'an. These designs also extend to the banquet hall's ceilings, creating a dramatic three-dimensional effect.

The hotel is set in 7.2 hectares of landscaped gardens featuring greenery, reflective pools and streams. Inside, guests can also enjoy a bright, tropical ambience, thanks to the breathtaking 9-storey high open atrium as well as artificial date trees.  Once you step foot into the property, you will feel as though you have been transported to an exotic Middle Eastern location for your holiday.

The hotel is conveniently located just minutes away from KLIA, KLIA2 and Mitsui Premium Outlet Park, making this the ideal hotel for business travellers, stopovers or even a family staycation. Guest can enjoy complimentary shuttle transfers to and from the airport every 2 hours.

The hotel boasts a total of 333 rooms, including luxurious suites with up to two bedrooms, plus an executive lounge (Level 8) and six dining outlets, however mostly are still under renovation.

Our well-appointed room came with twin-sized beds, a work desk, spacious bathroom (with shower) and complimentary Wi-fi. It also comes with a picture window, offering a stunning view of the majestic Masjid Sultan Abdul Samad KLIA.

Sira is their grab-and-go lobby lounge offering Mövenpick ice-cream, local ice-kacang, coffee/tea and sweet treats. Switzerland is famous for its chocolates, and Movenpick dedicates one hour to it, known as Chocolate Hour. Here, from 5pm onwards daily, hotel guests can enjoy complimentary chocolate treats and hot chocolate.

They also do delicious milkshakes!

Temasya, Movenpick Hotel KLIA

Temasya is the modern, all-day dining restaurant located in the iconic Movenpick Hotel & Convention Centre KLIA. Led by Executive Chef Sudirman Bin Wan Mansor, the restaurant's menu showcases the best of Malay, Chinese, Muhibbah, European and Mediterranean cuisines in a vibrant, marketplace atmosphere with live cooking stations, an open kitchen and a spacious outdoor terrace. Touches of wood, brick and copper can be found throughout the restaurant's gorgeous interior.

During our recent staycation here, we had our breakfasts as well as dinner here. The restaurant offers buffet lunch and dinner, but we opted to order from their a la carte menu for our meals here. Service is friendly and food is competently prepared by the kitchen team.

For those who want a taste of Malaysian cuisine, we highly recommend the Nasi Goreng (RM45) and Yee Mee (RM38). The Nasi Goreng comes with fragrant fried rice, topped with a fried egg and comes with chicken sambal skewers, prawn crackers and a side salad. I am a big fan of yee mee, and the version here certainly gets my approval - wok fried crispy egg noodles in a rich gravy, along with chicken, seafood and vegetables.

The a la carte menu also feature salads, satay, soup, pasta, sandwiches and more. One of the dishes which we enjoyed a lot was the Australian grain fed beef medallion (RM95 for 220g) - our kids loved it so much and insisted on having it two days in a row. The beef, perfectly grilled to our preferred doneness (medium rare) was juicy and came with roasted rosemary potatoes and vegetables.

Creamy mushroom soup (RM28)  for the soup lover

Seafood Linguine (RM48) with squid rings, clams, mussels and prawns with garlic, tomatoes, chilli and olive oil

Hubby was craving for a good burger and the Grilled Beef Burger (RM48) certainly hit the spot. Juicy homemade beef patties was sandwiched between two toasted soft buns along with Cheddar, beef bacon, fried egg and very nice, crisp French fries.

Sirloin steak sandwich (RM58) - sauteed beef strips with mushroom, peppers and onion in a ciabatta, served with French fries.

Don't forget to check out the stunning hotel when you're here... perfect for your OOTD shots!

Fukuya KLIA Japanese Cuisine @ Kuala Lumpur International Airport

Usually I opt not to eat at airports, choosing to eat at home before travelling or making do with in-flight dining options.  Recently I found myself having to be at KLIA early in the evening, the timing was such that I was unable to enjoy dinner at home with the family however I could not put off eating until dinner was served during the flight.  I weighed up my options, passing by Burger King, Noodle House, Jalan Alor before finally opting for Fukuya Japanese Cuisine. It is the sister outlet of the famous Fukuya Kuala Lumpur.

The menu was pretty extensive, including sushi and sashimi by the plate and various set menu options. Pictures are included in the menu. I decided to go with the Salmon Belly Sashimi (RM55) and Unagi Don (RM55) washed down with iced green tea.

I purposely chose a table overlooking the busy airport outside and enjoyed watching the activities during my dinner.  The Unagi Don presented a large piece of eel set on a bowl of rice, accompanied by a bowl of salad, miso soup and some pickles.

The Salmon Belly Sashimi presented 5 or 6 large portions of salmon belly partially sliced and rolled to create an attractive presentation. The sashimi was deliciously fresh and was very satisfying to eat dipped in the soya / wasabi sauce.

Despite craving Japanese food above the other options available at KLIA, I was mindful that possibly it wouldn't match the quality widely available in Kuala Lumpur city, however I was pleasantly satisfied with my meal at Fukuya KLIA and will seek it out again should I find myself presented with the same set of circumstances in the future.

Verdict: Good Japanese eatery in the airport.

Pork-free.

Price: Total bill RM135.

Location: Fukuya KLIA, SATMZ 24, Mezzanine Level, Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia.
