Scotland's First Milk Vending Machine - Forest Farm, Aberdeen

Vending machines are aplenty these days, but how often do you see a MILK vending machine? During our trip to Scotland, we came across Forest Farm, an award-winning certified organic dairy, located in Kinellar, Aberdeen - home to Scotland's first milk vending machine.

The milk vending machine provides the local community an opportunity to buy milk from the cows they see grazing on their doorstep... this is as fresh as it gets!

As Scotland’s longest established organic dairy, Forest Farm believe that their organic milk is the most pure and natural you can find, all the way from grass to glass. It is gently pasteurised right here on their farm in their brand new facility to maximise freshness and non-homogenised (unprocessed) to preserve its natural goodness. This means the cream rises to the top - a dream for the person lucky enough to open the bottle! Furthermore, they do not use any chemical fertilisers, pesticides, herbicides or GM feeds.

Their wonderfully fresh organic milk has no food miles and is available between 6.30 am and 8 pm every day. You can fill up using one of the reusable glass bottles or plastic bottles. If you time it right (3.30 pm - 5.30 pm), you can even watch the cows being milked. A super fun experience for the kids! And the milk is A-Moo-Zing!

Farm Fresh - Why Imported is Not Always Better

When I first moved to the UK, I was amazed at how good the fresh milk there tasted... it was rich and delightfully creamy. Naturally, one of the things we missed most about the UK when we first moved back to Malaysia was the fresh milk.

Eventually we found a milk brand in Malaysia, which was very much to our liking - Farm Fresh. Milk is an essential item for us at home, as we often pour it liberally onto cereal or simply reach for a glass of cold milk when we're having a cookie - and believe me, great tasting milk makes all the difference.

Farm Fresh is a locally owned fresh milk brand with farms in Kota Tinggi, Johor and Muadzam, Pahang. Instead of importing milk from Australia, Farm Fresh imported Australian Holstein Jersey cows to be reared in free range farms in Malaysia. Hence, Farm Fresh milk takes only 48 hours to go from cow to your local supermarket shelves so you can rest assured that it truly is fresh milk. It is also not processed unnecessarily, and does not contain preservatives, coloring or any added sugar.

I was astounded to learn that imported milk is processed before being shipped and is reprocessed again in Malaysia before going to the supermarket shelves. This means that it takes up to two weeks or more for overseas milk to go from farm our store shelves. When you see it in this light, the milk doesn't seem so "fresh" afterall. This is something to keep in mind when buying milk if freshness is a concern to you and your family.

Our kids always look forward to a glass of cold milk in the evenings - even they can taste the difference and often comment that Farm Fresh milk is so fresh, creamy and yummy!

Are your kids like my kids where they can tell the difference between milks? Do you normally take note of the freshness of the milk? Do share your experience with me!

Do visit Farm Fresh YouTube channel - there are lots of educational videos such as how to store milk properly so it stays fresh for longer and you can also see how they care for their cows (happy cows = tasty milk) .

Also, please check out this video to see the vast difference in processing time for Farm Fresh fresh milk vs imported milk.

Creating Fun, Nutritious & Delicious Food with MARIGOLD

As a parent of two children aged 5 and 7, I am constantly on the lookout for new learning experiences for our children. Children take great pride in their achievements and as parents, we should give them every opportunity to learn new skills and experience new things. One area where we genuinely see growth in our children is their passion in the kitchen.

From around the age of 2, we started them off with mashing bananas or beating eggs during cake baking sessions and have gradually introduced new steps for them to undertake as their motor skills improved. Now that they are both in school we let them weigh out ingredients as per the recipe, which is great for confidence and a good tool for parents to ascertain their child's ability to follow instructions. It is also a simple lesson in mathematics and reading.

If you plan simple recipes and get the children involved they will quickly learn to have fun in the kitchen while learning new skills and hopefully creating delicious food.

If you are not already having fun kitchen sessions with your child / children, maybe the following simple activity could be a good chance for you to entice your young ones into the kitchen and get them assisting you in preparing their breakfast or an after-school snack.

Cooking or even nutritious food preparation that requires no cooking can be a fun activity for both parents and children alike which, if planned properly, will give you some valuable bonding time with your children and at the same time empower them with basic life skills which they can build upon and carry with them into adulthood.

BabySumoKids drink milk daily; the benefits from drinking milk as a child are well-documented, such as strong bone growth and teeth formation. We love drinking MARIGOLD UHT Milk as it is enriched with calcium, protein, as well as its unique BonePlus formulation of Vitamin D which aids in better calcium absorption and bone growth.

It comes in convenient 1 litre and 250ml Tetra-Pak packs, so both adults and children can drink it anytime, anywhere, chilled or non-chilled. It comes in 4 different flavours; full cream, chocolate, strawberry and low fat.

Other than just drinking milk, there are many ways of incorporating milk into your child's diet. MARIGOLD have come up with a newly improved UHT Chocolate flavoured milk and we were keen to combine the rich chocolate flavour with bananas, strawberries and nuts to create an overnight oats breakfast for our children to prepare and enjoy.

This easy recipe involves simple task such as measuring, pouring and slicing which your children can competently carry out.

To make overnight oats, simply fill a mason jar with 1/2 cup of rolled oats, and pour 1 pack of 250ml MARIGOLD UHT chocolate flavoured milk into the jar.

Slice your bananas

And top your overnight oats with your favorite fruits and nuts - BabySumoKids added raisins, walnuts, sliced strawberries and bananas to their overnight oats. Put on the lid, and leave it overnight in the fridge and enjoy for breakfast the following day!

Cooking with your kids is fun and great for family bonding too

Healthy, delicious breakfast in a jiffy

MARIGOLD UHT Milk: A healthy kid is an active kid

As a full time mum, my days are filled with lots of activities involving my kids. Both Hubby and I encourage our kids to have an active lifestyle as we believe that they will benefit greatly from it.

From the age of 1 plus, both my kids would go for daily evening walks with us. Not only can they keep fit and healthy, we can also bond together as a family. However, nowadays the kids have less time since they have school and homework to do once they get home, but we still find time to play in our garden/decking (something simple like playing ball or catch or jumping around). On weekends, we would take them to the nearby park to play in the playground as well as for jogging/walks.

After a morning of fun in the garden - our kids bonding with each other :)

My daughter and I also started going for parent-child yoga classes this year. We always have so much fun together at our yoga classes and have a good laugh with one another. You can encourage your children to lead an active lifestyle by joining in the fun, being supportive and they will be glad to have your companionship.

An active child will be able to grow and develop well and improve cardiovascular fitness. When we do yoga, it helps in improving our balance and posture - when we first started yoga lessons, our yoga instructor had to remind us to sit tall but now it comes naturally.

Since our kids love to eat (just like their mummy!), being active also helps them maintain a healthy weight. And when they're active, they are usually healthy, strong and have an alert mind. This will also help them academically, to be more motivated and build their self-esteem.

Improved balance

An active lifestyle = an alert mind, so my kids can do well academically too.

Kids need to have a balanced diet in order to get the right nutrients to grow up strong and healthy. For dinner, we will usually have rice/porridge, meat, and vegetables, followed by fruits for dessert. Calcium and protein is important for active children as it helps them grow well, have strong bones and they can get this through dairy products and drinking milk such as MARIGOLD UHT Milk.

Milk is important in building strong bones, which is crucial in promoting a healthy and active lifestyle. When kids have strong healthy bones to support their body, then they can do all the physical activities that they want and need to. We love MARIGOLD UHT Milk, as it is enriched with calcium, protein, as well as MARIGOLD UHT Milk's unique BonePlus formulation of Vitamin D which aids in better calcium absorption and bone growth. MARIGOLD UHT Milk - Very Healthy, Very Good.

A child with strong, healthy bones will have a strong foundation to enjoy an active lifestyle

MARIGOLD UHT Milk: Building Stronger Bones for Your Child

As parents, we always want to provide the best for our children. In order for our children to grow up strong and healthy, milk is one of the best food we can provide to them as it has the right balance of nutrients. In our home, my children drink milk at least 2 times a day and the adults do not miss out too.

Every morning when the children wake up, they will have a glass of milk before heading off to school. This will give them a good start to the day and enjoy the benefits that milk offer such as calcium, protein and vitamin D. Milk also contains choline that aids with learning and memory which will help them with their studies in school.

When they have a snack in the afternoon, they also like to have another glass of milk - my kids are always happy to drink milk as they think it's a really delicious drink. Secretly, mummy is delighted and rubbing her hands in glee as milk is such a nutritious drink. And just before bedtime, my children will have another glass of milk; milk contains protein which will help to grow as it is essential as a building block for bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood. It also works together constructively with calcium to aid bone health.

Most importantly, milk contains calcium which plays a vital role in keeping our bones strong and in preventing osteoporosis later in life. Hence, ensuring that our kids get the sufficient calcium through dairy products in their daily diet is important.

Drinking milk will ensure that my kids have healthy bones which can prevent childhood fractures. This is especially important for me since my kids love running and jumping around outdoors. Drinking milk will also decrease the risk of tooth decay and weak gums, so they will grow up with healthy teeth and big smiles. Every day challenges are easier when their foundation is stronger.

We love drinking MARIGOLD UHT Milk, as it is enriched with calcium, protein, as well as MARIGOLD's unique BonePlus formulation of Vitamin D which aids in better calcium absorption and bone growth. Drinking 2 glasses of MARIGOLD UHT Milk per day meets our daily recommended calcium intake.

MARIGOLD UHT Milk has been treated at an ultra-high temperature to ensure freshness. It also contains no preservative and is available in 250ml or 1litre Tetra-Pak packs. We really like the convenient and cute packaging.. my kids are always ask for the milk with the cute "moo-moo". :) There are 4 choices available - Full Cream, Chocolate, Strawberry and Low-Fat.

With MARIGOLD UHT Milk, our children will get all the nutrients required for building stronger bones and healthier bodies so that they can easily take on challenges they face in their daily life. This in the long run will help them build strength, ability and confidence that will last them a lifetime. MARIGOLD - Very Healthy, Very Good.
