Sunday Sky Brunch at Sabayon, EQ Kuala Lumpur

Elevate your weekend with the Sunday Sky Brunch at Sabayon, the award-winning fine dining restaurant in EQ Kuala Lumpur. Located on the 51st floor of the hotel, immerse yourself in a luxe lunch complemented by spectacular panoramic views of the city and stellar service.

Sabayon, usually an adult-only dining establishment, welcomes young children on Sundays, offering a 2-course menu for them, taking into account their appetites and preferences. For the adults, a 4-course meal consisting of an entrée, starter, main course and dessert awaits.

Start your meal on a high note with entrée options such as Tuna crudo, Eggplant & rock melon, or Hokkaido oyster in panko crumbs, served with pea custard and yuzu gel and salmon roe. Apart from the Hokkaido oyster, we tried everything on the menu and was delighted with the overall quality of the menu.

We absolutely loved the Tuna crudo, nori and sesame crusted tuna topped with ikura (salmon roe) and sesame vinagrette served with with a pea crisp. Hubby was equally impressed with the Eggplant & Melon, which showcased different textures and flavours.

Starter options include Butternut risotto, Veal tartare, or Seared Hokkaido scallops with roasted cauliflower puree. The pumpkin risotto was perfectly al dente, served with batons of sweet miso glazed squash. The veal tartare, sandwiched between compressed apples was served with apple foam and caramelised onions. I had the Hokkaido scallops, lightly seared and served with cauliflower puree, shaved cauliflower and tonburi.

For the main course, diners can choose between chicken, beef or salmon trout. The Corn-fed chicken terrine with black truffle was a pleasant surprise, and we were happy that we did not give this a miss. Tender chicken with crisp skin, a delicious sauce au supreme and black truffles to further elevate the dish.

The braised beef brisket was fork tender,  and comes with silky smooth pomme puree and a noisette lemon emulsion.  The salmon trout was pan seared to perfection,  served with beurre blanc, asparagus, and avruga caviar... this is truly simplicity at its best.

End your meal with a selection of cake and pastries, or a cheese platter featuring a selection of imported cheese, honeycomb, and other accompaniments.

At the end of the meal, the wait staff presented us with a framed family photo as a memento of our wonderful dining experience here at Sabayon. One of the best Sundays we have spent together this year for sure.

For the two-course child brunch, young guests can choose from tomato soup or French toast as a starter, as well as steak hache with mashed potatoes and onion gravy, creamy linguine pasta, or fish and chips with mushy peas and house-made tartare sauce as the main. Dessert is a choice between strawberry parfait, chocolate tart with vanilla gelato, or a sorbet duo.

The 4-course adult brunch is priced at RM189+ and the 2-course child brunch is priced at RM68+.
Sunday Sky Brunch is available only on Sundays, from 12pm to 3pm. Reservations are highly recommended, and can be made via the EQ F&B reservations WhatsApp at +6012-278 9239.

Recipe: Big Breakfast with Solisege

Rise and shine and eat breakfast like a king! There's no better way to start your day than with a wholesome and hearty Big Breakfast, also known as a Full English Breakfast or fry-up. For me, the perfect fry-up must include fried egg, sausages, bacon or ham, baked beans, sauteed mushrooms, tomatoes and toast.

Big Breakfast recipe

My favourite bacon and ham brand in Malaysia is Solisege, and recently I found out that they have started doing online delivery. So, I got myself a delivery of fresh sausages, cooked sausages, streaky bacon, and premium ham.

I was really excited to try out their sausages since we've never had them before and they certainly lived up to my expectations. I had the Supirrio Apple Cinnamon sausages with the Big Breakfast and they were nice and juicy. They're easy to cook too ... simply pop them into a hot oven at 190°C and cook for 20-25 minutes.

Yay! Here's my delivery from Solisege :)

The stars of our Big Breakfast

BabySumoKids prefer ham over bacon for their Big Breakfast, so that's what we collectively had - the Solisege honey baked ham. The kids love this ham in their sandwiches and they're great eaten on its own too. I also spruced up the toast with some ripe avocado. A bang-on breakfast.. loved it!

Big Breakfast (Full English Breakfast)
Recipe by Baby Sumo
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Serves 4

Ingredients
200g Supirrio apple cinnamon sausage
150g Solisege honey baked ham
150g white button mushroom, sliced
1 can baked beans
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
2 tbsp cooking oil
1 tbsp butter
1/8 tsp dried thyme
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
4 eggs
8-10 cherry tomatoes
1 loaf grain bread, or any nice crusty bread, lightly toasted
1-2 ripe avocado, peeled and thinly sliced
Maldon salt or any sea salt
Freshly ground black pepper

1. Preheat oven to 190°C (roast mode).

2. Line a baking tray with foil, then place sausages on tray. Place in preheated oven and cook for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through. Remove from oven once cooked.

3. Pour baked beans into a saucepan and place over low heat. Gently cook for 10 minutes, until heated through.

4. In a frying pan over medium high heat, add 1 tbsp olive oil. Once hot, add the garlic and saute for 1 1/2 minutes, until fragrant and lightly golden. Then, add the mushrooms and saute for about 3-4 minutes, then add butter and thyme and cook for a further 1-2 minutes, until mushrooms are tender. Season with some salt. Remove and set aside.

5. In same frying pan, heat 1 tbsp olive oil over high heat. Add cherry tomatoes, season with some salt and pepper and cook for about 3-4 minutes, until skin is slightly blistered.

6. Clean pan and then add cooking oil. Over a medium high heat, fry the eggs one at a time.

7. To assemble: Place fried egg onto plate, followed by sausage and a slice of ham. If you prefer your ham served warm, you can pan fry it for 1-2 minutes in the pan. Then, spoon some baked beans, sauteed mushrooms, pan roasted tomatoes, and a slice of bread topped with avocado. Season avocado with Maldon salt, black pepper and some shichimi togarashi (optional). Enjoy!

Note:
1. The 200g Solisege sausages come with 4 links, if you would like to have 2 sausages per person, then please cook 2 packs.

Joy Lok Club: Sunday Brunch at Four Points KL Chinatown

There's a new Sunday Brunch in town: Joy Lok Club, a lok-lok themed brunch at Four Points by Sheraton Kuala Lumpur, Chinatown. This fun Sunday brunch, which made its debut last weekend, will be held every Sunday from 12pm to 3pm at Quan's Kitchen, the hotel's all day dining restaurant, and will feature traditional Chinatown favourites as well as Western specialties.

Joy Lok Club Sunday Brunch Four Points KL Chinatown

The highlight of this brunch is the interactive Joy Lok Club station, which allows diners to experience the well-loved street food, lok lok, usually available in trucks parked in the streets of Kuala Lumpur and other parts of Malaysia. Select your favourite skewers, from prawns to squid, fishballs, sausages, yong tau foo, mushrooms and vegetables, hand it over to one of the chefs, who will cook them in boiling water and then serve with your choice of broth (choose from curry broth, gulai lemak broth and peanut sauce).

From the Western line-up, we highly recommend the Roasted leg of lamb - absolutely tender and succulent. You can also find Braised Boeuf de Bourguignon and a lovely cheese selection.

For dessert, indulge in the Choco Lok station, where you can dip skewers of marshmallows, fresh fruits and more in the chocolate fountain. There is also a range of local kuihs, cakes, fresh fruits and ice cream to satisfy your sweet tooth.

If Only KL, Taman U-Thant

If Only KL is a stunning new restaurant-cum-cafe located in Regal House, at Taman U-Thant. The catchy name stems from the owners desire to be able to enjoy a bowl of local noodle soup with a cup of specialty coffee on the side... "if only there is a place nearby where we can enjoy both together".

Hence, If Only KL is born... a restaurant specialising in wholesome comfort food and specialty coffee. The menu here is a mix of both Western and local food, ranging from shakshuka, curry chicken with toast, nasi lemak, superfood bowls, laksa pesto pasta and mee hun kueh. Helming the kitchen here is Jonathan, who is passionate about showcasing locally sourced ingredients such as kampung eggs, vegetables, herbs and honey on his menu.

The interior here is gorgeous and every Instagrammer's dream come true. Inspired by island and tropical life, natural sunlight pours in from every corner of the cafe, with handmade rattan pendant lights as well as white washed effect walls, reminiscent of rustic beach side houses. At the coffee bar, you can sit under big fluffy white cloud lights and a palm tree while enjoying your cuppa. Communal dining is encouraged; the large showcase communal table, which is made from Suar wood by local carpenters from Indonesia, can seat up to 10 pax.

If only all breakfasts were as awesome as this, your day would never go wrong. Start you day right with the If Only Big Breakfast Was This Big (RM35), which comes with two eggs done the way you like it (choose from scrambled, fried or 63 celcius), carefully sourced beef bacon and chicken sausage, sauteed mushrooms, half an avocado, vegetable hash (carrots and potato), grilled tomatoes and handmade rustic bread. The rustic bread is baked fresh daily using just three simple ingredients (flour, yeast and water), hand knead and set to rest over 12 hours for yeast to rise naturally.

For those who prefer a local breakfast, try the Toast with Homemade Kaya (RM15) inspired by Malaysian's favourite kopitiam breakfast. If Only's kaya is a homemade recipe by one of their team members, Jube, made with fresh pandan juice, duck egg, fresh coconut milk and cane sugar. The pandan leaves harvested from their own orchard in Hulu Langat, combined with the duck egg gives it an extra rich finish and lovely fragrance. This also comes with two perfectly cooked 63 celcius eggs, served with Sarawak white pepper and light soy sauce.

Have a refreshing, healthy smoothie bowl, guaranteed to perk up your day. All the smoothie bowls here contain Maqui Berries, a superfruit said to have the highest antioxidant amongst all fruits (higher than Acai Berry). We had the super pretty Mana bowl (RM22), which comes with organic Maqui berry, dragonfruit, mango, strawberry, blueberry and apple juice, topped with banana, pineapple, mixed berries granola, goji berries, organic chia seeds and raw organic Kelulut honey from Seremban.

From the lunch menu, we sampled the signature Roast spring chicken (RM35), stuffed with rosemary, roasted pumpkin, carrot, and potatoes, and served with Chef's special gravy. Beautifully tender, moist and flavorful, the spring chicken has been marinated in a mix of local spices and then roasted to order, for 20-25 minutes. To complement the roasted chicken, we also had the Ulam salad (RM18), a healthy concoction of four angled beans, long beans, roasted barley, bunga kantan, guava, cherry tomatoes, daun kesom and deep fried chicken skin for added texture. The salad is lightly dressed with limau kasturi (calamansi lime) and budu (fermented anchovies).

All coffee served here use Cloud Catcher's RUBIX blend, with a roasted mixed nut and milk chocolate flavour profile.  Diners also have the option of having their coffee with soy, almond, oatmeal, or coconut milk. Most of their tea blends use locally sourced herbs, spices and flowers.

Cappuccino (RM12)

Prana chai latte (RM15) - masala tea served with soy milk
