Beauty in the Pot, SkyAvenue Genting Highlands: HotPot

With cooler climate guaranteed all year round, Genting Highlands is the ideal place to enjoy a hotpot meal. Located on the rooftop of the SkyAvenue lifestyle mall is Beauty in the Pot, where diners can enjoy this Asian favourite high in the clouds.

Since its inception in 2014 in Singapore, Beauty in The Pot has been winning over gourmands with its nourishing and exquisite broths, as well as a wide selection of fresh ingredients. Beauty in the Pot in Genting marks the debut of this brand in Malaysia; its largest outlet yet, spanning over 7400 square feet.

Beauty in the pot genting

The 266-seater outlet boasts a pink princess theme interior design, inspired by the beautiful cherry blossoms that come every early spring. The restaurant’s flooring features white marble stippled with pink quartz, symbolising the cherry blossoms that fall on snow-clad land. From the entrance to the private rooms, the walls to the ceiling and even the charging points, everything is decked out in different shades of pink.

For larger groups or families, there are private rooms available here with individual pots. All the pots in the restaurant have been specially imported. There is an exhaust system surrounding each pot, so diners can enjoy the hotpot session in a well-ventilated environment. There is also a children's playground so the adults can enjoy the food while the kids enjoy their playtime.

Inspired by the culture of food for health, diners can now take the opportunity to enhance their good looks while indulging in quality hotpot fare. The menu features their own creation of nourishing soup bases, garnering them the accolade of "World's First Health & Beauty Hotpot in the Sky".

The new outlet serves six soup bases, including the Signature Beauty Collagen Broth (Scallop & Pork Bone Soup), Signature Spicy Nourishing Soup (Pork Bone Soup), Herbal Drunken Chicken Broth, Cooling Coconut Broth, Longevity Wild Mushroom Broth (Vegetarian) and Vitamin C Tomato Sweet Corn Broth.

Here are the descriptions of the broths:
Signature Beauty Collagen Broth (Scallop & Pork Bone Soup): More than six hours goes into the making of this collagen-rich soup. Freshly prepared every day, the soup features shark's cartilage as the main ingredient.

Signature Spicy Nourishing Soup (Pork Bone Soup): Simmered for long hours, the pork bone broth is made with luxurious Chinese herbs including one whole ginseng, dang gui, dang shen, red dates, wolf berries and others to create a moreish soup with intense flavours. It is available in mild spicy, spicy and extra spicy options.

Herbal Drunken Chicken Broth: Fresh kampong chicken is simmered over low heat for at least two hours and mixed with an array of premium herbs such as Solomon's seal, codonopsis root, Chinese angelica root and many more. The herbal fragrance, as well as the aroma of the glutinous rice wine is intoxicating. The broth helps improve blood circulation and strengthens one's immunity.

Cooling Coconut Broth: The soup base comprises coconut flesh and a variety of fresh ingredients such as spare ribs, chicken, chicken's feet and snow fungus. The chefs adds the coconut water from fresh young coconuts into the soup base. Delicate on the tastebuds and soothing on the throat, this soup helps to nourish the lungs and improve the body's immune system.

For your hotpot experience here, you can choose to have either a single pot, twin pot or quart pot. We went for the quart pot, which allowed us to choose and try four different soup bases (prices start from RM10 each), namely the collagen broth, spicy nourishing soup, cooling coconut broth and wild mushroom broth. Customers can request for refills; superior stock is added to the Beauty Collagen Broth, Signature Spicy Nourishing Broth and Cooling Coconut Broth while clear soup is added to the Herbal Drunken Chicken Broth, to maintain the original flavours of the broths.

I loved the Cooling coconut broth best, as it is light, clear and sweet and is perfect for dipping your meat or seafood in as it doesn't overwhelm the natural flavours of the ingredients. Baby D's favorite was the earthy Wild mushroom broth while Baby C and Hubby's vote went for the rich collagen broth (similar to the ramen-type tonkotsu broth). So it's definitely a good idea to go for the quart pot option! :)

There is an impressive variety of premium hotpot ingredients, ranging from pork, beef, chicken, seafood to vegetables and noodles. Please note that the dining time for each table is limited to 1 1/2 hours. Ordering is via an iPad, so you can keep track of your orders as well as total bill.

Choose from Australian, US Angus or US Wagyu beef, as well as various cuts such as sliced beef, short ribs, beef cubes, tripe, stomach and ox's tongue. We went for the Sliced Australian beef (RM24) which is slightly marbled and thinly sliced, so it only takes a few seconds to cook. For those who prefer pork, there is Nagano, Spanish Iberico or regular pork to choose from. We had the Sliced pork belly (RM17.50).

We highly recommend the Sliced Toman fish (RM19) aka snakehead 生魚, fresh and thick slices of sweet tasting, firm fish. I enjoyed dipping this in the Spicy nourishing soup.

Baby D requested for the Hokkaido scallop (RM26), the half portion comes with three pieces which were reasonably large and plump. This is best cooked in one of the more delicate tasting soups such as the wild mushroom or coconut soup.

All the meatballs, meat paste and dumplings are handmade. We had the Soft Bone pork meat balls (RM12) which were juicy and tender as well as the Fish paste (RM19.80) which had a soft, tofu-like texture. You must also try the dumplings; we had the prawn dumpling (RM19) and they're really tasty with crunchy, juicy prawns.

There are also more than 20 condiments and sauces to dip the ingredients in. If you are unsure how to create your own sauce, there are several dip recipes above the counter to guide you. There is a mandatory charge of RM6.80 for all diners, to enjoy the condiments and unlimited servings of fresh fruits.

Once you have finished your meal, you will be served a complimentary, refreshing yuzu sorbet to refresh your palate. Overall, a very enjoyable meal with exceptional service (the staff are SOOOO polite) in a fitting location.

The lovely view from the rooftop (Level 5)

*There is a 20% discount for food ingredients (excludes soup bases, drinks and condiments fee) for dining after 10.30pm daily. Not valid on Saturday, Sunday and Public Holidays.

Theme Park Hotel: A Family-Friendly, Quirky Hotel in Genting Highlands

Resorts World Genting has introduced Theme Park Hotel, a boutique hotel in Genting Highlands which can accommodate up to six people in a room, perfect for families or friends holidaying together.

Formerly known as the Hotel on the Park, Theme Park Hotel has been fully refurbished, sporting a playful yet modern look. It is conveniently located at the doorsteps of the Arena of Stars and the upcoming Twentieth Century Fox World Malaysia theme park as well as within walking distance from SkyAvenue lifestyle mall and SkyCasino.

The hotel boasts 456 rooms spanning 8 floors, including Sixers, Quads, Kings as well as luxurious Honeymoon Suites for couples. Each Sixers features two Queen-sized beds with a built-up bunk bed which holds under queen-sized mattress. For slightly smaller groups, stay in the Quads which have two Queen-sized beds and can accommodate up to four people. The Kings are perfect for those travelling in pairs, while couples looking for a romantic space can consider the 550 sq ft Honeymoon Suite which comes with a clawfoot bathtub.

Honeymoon suite

We recently stayed in the Quads room in the Valley Wing, an ideal-sized room for our family of four. The room decor is quirky and fun, with doodles cleverly drawn all over the room. The artists have drawn outlines of the closets and clothes can be hung on knobs. The television set too is hung on brackets, with artwork around it to make it seem that it is enclosed in a TV cabinet. Our kids absolutely loved the design of the room

There are two queen-sized beds on the platform, which comfortably slept 4 pax, with storage space for your shoes and small luggages as well as housing a safe and slippers for use during your stay. There is a oscillating fan on the ceiling for your comfort, coffee/tea making facilities and complimentary bottled water. Guests can also enjoy complimentary WiFi in the rooms during their stay.

There are two vanity counters in the bathroom, along with a shower and separate toilet. Each room also comes with a balcony for you to enjoy the cool morning breeze and views of the rainforest (and KL city on a clear day).

View from our balcony

The hotel lobby is like no other; inspired by the 130-million year old rainforest, guests will encounter a hot air balloon draped in vines that looks like it drifted away and came to find its home in the middle of the forest. Miniature grassy slopes cover the hotel lobby, with a small play area where children can have fun and slide down the ‘hills’. Parents watching over their little ones can take a seat in one of the four ‘monkey cups’ while enjoying the views of the surrounding rainforest.

A grab and go F&B outlet, aptly named Eatopia is also located in the lobby of this family-friendly hotel. The outlet offers a range of bakery items, heat-and-go wraps and pastas, Malaysian staples like nasi lemak, sushi and hot and cold beverages.

Can't wait for the Theme Park to open

Paradise Dynasty @ SkyAvenue, Genting Highlands

Last weekend, we finally made our way to SkyAvenue, the new lifestyle mall in Genting Highlands. You will never go hungry here as this mall has a pretty impressive range of restaurants offering all types of cuisines to suit every palate.

Famed for their eight-flavoured xiao long bao, Paradise Dynasty is a well-established Chinese restaurant in Malaysia and is now available in SkyAvenue too. The restaurant is modern and spacious, with plush interior and elegant blue chandeliers, providing diners with a comfortable dining ambiance.

The menu offers a wide range of specialty dishes from northern and southern China, with an innovative touch. To order, simply mark off the item on the order chit and hand it to one of the serving staff. Service is very efficient, with most food items arriving within 10-15 minutes of placing our order.

The must-have item here is the exquisite xiao long bao. Paradise Dynasty offers the World's First Eight Flavour Xiao Long Bao, namely original, ginseng, foie gras, black truffle, cheesy, crab roe, garlic and Szechuan. Diners can choose either the single flavour baskets (6 pcs or 10pcs) or for the ultimate indulgence, try the Specialty Dynasty Xiao Long Bao (RM38.80) which comes with all 8 flavours.

Each xiao long bao had a distinctive, unique flavour and is intricately made with 18 folds, has a delicate thin skin and weighs exactly 25grams. There is even a special guide to teach you the correct sequence to eat these XLBs, to ensure that you get the optimum taste, starting from the original and ending with the spicy Szechuan. Love this!

These xiao long baos get its pretty colours from all natural ingredients.

The Stir fried shredded pork in black bean sauce, served with Chinese crepes (RM33.90) is another signature dish here. Fun to eat and absolutely delicious, wrap the flavorful, tender shredded pork and spring onions in the steamed pancakes and enjoy. Highly recommended!

For beef lovers, you can try the Stir fried marbled Australian beef with scallion (RM48.90). The use of marbled beef ensures that every bite is tender and juicy. A definite crowd-pleaser.

La mian is another specialty here at the Paradise Dynasty, with 18 variants to choose from. We went for the La Mian served with deep fried chicken chop (RM29.90) and the signature pork bone broth. The milky broth is rich, creamy and high in collagen, as it has been simmered for 12 hours under slow fire to bring out the flavours of the ingredients.

The smooth, thin noodles are skillfully made, with a lovely chewy texture

Crispy, juicy chicken chop served on the side, so the batter doesn't go soggy.

If you like braised lava eggs, you can order additional ones at RM4.50 each.

For dessert, we had the Lotus paste bun with salted egg yolk (RM16). Served steaming hot, the buns were soft and fluffy. The salted egg yolk provided a nice flavour contrast to the sweet, smooth lotus paste filling.

Watch the chefs at work from the viewing panel at the front of the restaurant.

Non-halal.

Opening times: Mon - Thurs: 10am – 10pm; Fri & Sat: 8am-11pm; Sun: 8am-10pm.

Price: approx. RM50 per person.
