After a fun day out at Sunway Lagoon, we dropped by Sunway Pyramid for our dinner before heading home. Most of the restaurants were packed for Iftar, so we decided to try Honolulu Cafe.
Honolulu Cafe is actually a brand from Hong Kong, which has been around since 1940. The menu features Hong Kong-style char chan teng food, with signatures such as egg tart, polo buns, Cantonese barbecue and roast meats, as well as a variety of Hong Kong -style fried dishes.
The boy wanted rice, so we browsed the fried rice section and he selected the Fried rice with pork in XO sauce (RM16.80). Turned out to be an excellent choice, one of the best fried rice we've had with plenty of wok hei. The portion size is also good for sharing.
We also ordered the Double roast treasure set with dry tossed noodle (RM18.80). For the meat, we got to choose from Imperial roasted duck, Herbal angelica roasted duck, Crispy roasted pork belly, HK style honey BBQ pork (char siew) and Honey BBQ pork belly (char siew). We went for the Imperial roasted duck (we requested for duck breast) and Crispy roasted pork belly (siew yuk) and we're happy to report that they were both very good. The noodles were nice too, but I think they missed out on the vegetables :P The set also comes with the soup of the day, which was a lovely chicken and corn soup.
What attracted us to try out this place were the display of egg tarts and polo buns at the front of the restaurant. Unfortunately for us, by the time our order was keyed in, they had run out of polo buns :(
Luckily, they still had egg tarts - we tried the Honolulu Signature egg tart (RM2.95 each) as well as the slightly more unusual Honolulu Signature soya bean curd tart (RM2.95). We liked them both; the egg tart had a nice flaky crust with a nice soft custardy filling while the soya bean curd tart is served cold and had a firmer, more biscuity type crust with a silky, smooth filling. Definitely worth trying!
Honolulu Cafe also has an outlet in Mid Valley.
Opening times: 10am to 10pm daily.
Serves pork.
Price: Total bill RM56.55.
Location: Honolulu Cafe, LG2.55, Sunway Pyramid Shopping Mall No. 3, Jalan PJS 11/15 Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya, Malaysia.

Ayam Penyet Express, Sunway Pyramid
A few weeks ago, we had blue skies and lovely weather in KL - perfect weather for a day out at Sunway Lagoon. For lunch, we decided to try Ayam Penyet Express located in the Blue Concourse area in Sunway Pyramid.
BabySumoKids with the clowns at Sunway Lagoon
Iced lemon tea (RM3.70) + iced cendol (RM5.20)
The kids shared a "Ayam Penyet Set" (RM12.20) which comes with 1 piece of chicken, small bowl of soup and rice. We also added on an extra piece of ayam penyet (RM9.40) later on as the kids enjoyed their first piece of chicken. Using kampung chicken, it is first marinated, then deep fried and then flattened before serving. We prefer the chicken maryland as it was moist, whereas the chicken breast turned out to be a little dry. The chicken also comes with a piece of fried beancurd, soybean cake and a spicy belacan-chilli relish.
Hubby had sup rawon aka Javanese beef soup (RM8.30). The soup was pretty flavorful and came with beef chunks. I had the soto ayam (RM8.30) which was mediocre in taste.

Hana Dining + Sake Bar - Signature Course Menu
Hana Dining & Sake Bar in Sunway Pyramid has recently revamped their menu and we were invited to try out their signature course meal. The chefs draw inspiration from cuisines around Taiwan, Japan and Western countries to create Hana's unique fusion Japanese dishes.
The Signature Course Meal is highly popular with restaurant guests as it showcases many of the restaurant's signature dishes and will appeal to diners looking for variety and quality at a good price. Diners can choose from the Signature Course Meal for 2 pax (RM130). 4 pax (RM280) and 6 pax (RM450). We sampled the latter, which comes with a total of 13 dishes, dessert and miso soup.
For each course, there will be a selection of items that the diners can choose from. For example, in the salad category, there will be 3 choices and diners can choose two as part of the Signature Course Meal (for 6 pax). Other than the two salad, diners will get to choose 2 appetizers, 1 sashimi platter, 2 makimono, 2 agemono, 2 yakimono and 2 menrui or gohan.
For salad, we had the Wafu Kaisen Salad (RM25) and Gobo Salad (RM20). We enjoyed the Gobo Salad, whereby garden vegetable was topped with crispy deep fried gobo (burdock root) strips and a honey mustard dressing. The Wafu Kaisen Salad tastes healthier - an appetizing salad, with garden salad, fruits (sliced apple and pineapple chunks) and seafood (crabsticks) with a tangy Japanese-style dressing.
Next, for the appetizers, we had the Tsuke Shiro Maguro (RM25) - white tuna, or better known as butterfish is marinated with garlic, vinegar and olive oil. We also had the Kamo Kyuuri (RM28) - this was one of my favorite dishes of the evening. The thinly sliced grilled duck breast was topped with Japanese cucumber, pickled onions and an appetizing dressing.
The highlight of this Signature Course Meal, without a doubt was the Take Sashimi Moriawase (RM110), which comes with six type of sashimi (16 pieces) - salmon, maguro (tuna), toro (tuna belly), amaebi (sweet prawn), hotategai (scallop) and kanpachi (amberjack). Fresh and good!
Both the makis we had here were very tasty. The cheese maki (RM25) had a homemade crab mince centre, and was topped with sticky mozzarella cheese. The Hana Shake Maki (RM28) is one of the new items on the revamped menu, whereby a special garlic Kewpie sauce is topped on raw salmon and then torched. The cucumber in the centre also gives a nice crunch to the maki.
The chicken namban (RM18) was pretty ordinary - deep fried chicken fillets served with a sweet chilli sauce. I prefer the tempura moriawase (RM25), an assortment of prawn and vegetable tempura in a light batter.
We also liked the Mentaiko Nagaimo Yam (RM23) - baked crunchy Japanese yam, topped with mentaiko (cod fish roe) and cheese. The Kani Tamagoyaki (RM22), a crab meat omelette with assorted mushrooms arrives on a sizzling hot plate.
The Santen Mori Soba (RM18), features inaniwa udon imported from Japan, buckwheat and green tea soba, served cold with soba dipping sauce and quail's egg. Lastly, we had the Saba gohan (RM18), mackarel claypot rice with ponzu soy sauce, which was tasty and flavorful.
If there's one dessert you should try at Hana, it's the shiro goma ice cream (RM7). We loved the unique and fragrant taste of this white sesame ice cream. Other desserts here are tofu cheesecake - homemade cake using cheese, tofu and yogurt, which was light and delicious as well as matcha ice cream (RM7).
You can also find raindrop cake here, the much-talked about dessert which the Americans went ga-ga for. A set of 2 will cost RM8. Wobbly and soft, the raindrop cakes are topped with kinako.
*Prices indicated next to the dishes are the prices you pay should you order from the a la carte menu.

Horlicks NutriQuest : Tall, Strong & Sharp
The Horlicks NutriQuest campaign is designed by Horlicks to engage children of all ages and provide a platform for them to learn about nutrition in a fun and interactive way. The launch couldn't be timed any better, with Malaysian school holidays currently upon us.
As parents, we all try to provide the best for our children. Horlicks, also known as the Growth Nourisher is a popular nutritional health food drink for children and is power packed with 23 vital nutrients essential for growth and development of children. By giving Horlicks to our children, we can help them grow taller, stronger and sharper while staying nourished every day.
With this campaign, Horlicks is capturing children's and parent's imaginations via the creation of a mobile game application which incorporates the Tall, Strong and Sharp elements into the game play. To defeat Dr. Greedy, one has to be tall, grow strong and sharp which resonates with Horlicks' brand promise that healthy nutrition is the foundation for success.
Essentially, Dr Greedy and his Metaloids are plotting to rid the world of Horlicks thus denying children the chance to grow taller, stronger and sharper. Please watch the video below for an introduction to Horlicks NutriQuest and to get up to speed with the "Breaking News".
We were amongst some of the lucky families invited along to the Horlicks NutriQuest roadshow which took place over the weekend of 10-13th March at Sunway Pyramid.
The event was a lot of fun; we enjoyed a taste of Horlicks upon entry and familiarized ourselves with the activities offered at the roadshow. After listening to the short speech by Stacy Wallace, the General Manager of GSK Consumer Healthcare Malaysia, she also officiated the Horlicks NutriQuest Campaign together with the kids and families who have attended the event.
The roadshow featured interactive activities that aimed to bring the NutriQuest game to life. During the roadshow, we all took the opportunity to take part in the games.
The children were encouraged to demonstrate their ability in jumping high, at the TALL booth. A star was dangled above them (customized to a suitable height for each participant) and the child was asked to jump up and literally reach for the stars.
Two mobile devices were available at the Sunway Pyramid roadshow to showcase the Horlicks NutriQuest mobile game application and provide the children a chance to play the actual game itself. Chloe did her part in helping defeat Dr Greedy by advancing the game onto the next level :-)
We got the chance to meet Dr Greedy in person at the roadshow and took the opportunity to grab a family photo with him. Hubby reminded us all that Dr Greedy is the enemy lol.
There was a photo booth and photographs were efficiently printed and passed onto us as a momento of our time at the roadshow.
You can collect NutriCoins that come together with special limited edition Horlicks packs. Why should YOU start collecting NutriCoins? The NutriCoins can help you to unlock new levels in the 4th Dimension World within the Horlicks NutriQuest game. Additionally you can also use the NutriCoins to collect exclusive prizes including the Horlicks NutriQuest watch with 3 NutriCoins, the Horlicks NutriQuest cap with 2 NutriCoins and the characters key chain with one NutriCoin. You can collect your prizes through online redemption at the Horlicks NutriQuest website.
So what are you waiting for? Go ahead, download the game on your mobile devices (Android and iOS) today. Join us in the thrilling virtual adventure-filled quest to hunt and defeat Dr Greedy. Stay tuned for our next post on our experience playing the Horlicks NutriQuest game and some useful tips to help you advance through the game.

In order to demonstrate how STRONG they were, the children were asked to knock over a giant inflatable Dr Greedy 5 times in a row.
Sharp and accurate shooting was required to demonstrate the child's ability to be SHARP enough to take on Dr Greedy.
After successfully completing each activity, the child would get his/her card stamped. Upon collecting all 3 stamps a 'prize' was awarded.
