Enoteca Vino & Cucina, TTDI, Kuala Lumpur

We recently dined in a gem of a restaurant in TTDI, Enoteca Vino & Cucina, serving authentic Italian cuisine. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, we experienced the warm hospitality from the servers, as well as copious amounts of good food that followed soon after.

To start, we had the Burrata with rocket salad and cherry tomatoes (RM52). You can also opt to add-on parma ham for an extra RM20. Fresh burrata cheese pulled apart to reveal a soft, rich, creamy centre. Simplicity at its best.

Complimentary sourdough bread, freshly baked in the wood-fired oven daily, with balsamic vinegar and olive oil.

Pasta is a must-try here; they made fresh in-house daily. The Pappardelle with wild boar ragu (RM55) was really good, loved every bite of it! The classic Spaghetti Carbonara (RM42) is also not to be missed; here you will find an authentic version made with guanciale (pork cheek), eggs, pecorino cheese and black pepper.

If you're a fan of risottos, the 𝐑𝐒𝐬𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐨 π„π§π¨ππžπœπš (RM57) is also worth a try - arborio rice with walnuts, Black Angus tenderloin, potatoes and shaved Parmesan.

The pizza dough is made using unbleached, unbromated flour imported from Italy and then cooked in the wood-fired oven. Hubby chose the 𝐂𝐑𝐨𝐫𝐒𝐳𝐨 & π’π©π’π§πšπœπ‘ (RM48), which comes with mozzarella, tomato sauce and egg.

Tiramisu (RM25)

They also do a value for money set lunch on weekdays (RM48++ for 3-courses; we had the truffled mushroom soup, spaghetti carbonara and passion fruit ice cream .. yums), which also comes with complimentary coffee/tea.

Over the weekend, we visited the transformed Shook! for an evening out with the family. The restaurant is ultra spacious, and we're totally loving the snazzy interior. We were also serenaded by a pianist as we enjoyed our meal here.

Here are some of the dishes which we sampled here:

♥ Tastemaker's Pepperoni pizza
♥ Satay Enak
♥ Decadent Seafood Chowder
♥ Ayam Goreng DJ Istimewa
♥ Miso Lobster Linguine
♥ Assiette of Desserts

My personal favourite was the Miso Lobster Linguine; pasta topped with miso-marinated fresh rock lobster, spring onion, garlic oil, ikura and chilli flakes. So yum!

Rich and smooth seafood chowder, with added texture from the crispy nori crackers and charred sweet corn. And decadent it sure was!

A trio of satay skewers - chicken, lamb and beef, marinated with spices and grilled on an open coal fire and served with a chunky peanut sauce.

You can never go wrong with fried chicken - coated in a blend of flour and spices, and fried in a custom-made tri-ply pot to draw out the flavour and tenderness.

The thin-based pizza was excellent too, featuring Chef Willie’s house-made beef pepperoni, shredded oregano and mozzarella on a base of rich agnolotti sauce.

The Humble Assistant mocktail, featuring yuzu, peach and jasmine. Highly refreshing!

Recipe: Quick & Easy Hawaiian Pizza

What is your favourite pizza flavour? For us, it is definitely Hawaiian Pizza (or Aloha pizza, depending on which pizza place you go to) or simply known as Pineapple Pizza. Typical toppings on a Hawaiian Pizza include chicken, ham, cheese and tomatoes along with juicy chunks of pineapples.

Homemade Hawaiian pizza

Here's a quick, easy version you can make at home using tortilla wraps as the pizza base. You can even get your kids to assemble their own pizzas - my kids love it as they customise and put on as much ingredients as they like on their personal pizzas.

Sweet, savoury and tangy, these are simply the perfect combination of flavours on a pizza.

Hawaiian pizza

Hawaiian Pizza
Recipe by Baby Sumo
Preparation time: 2-3 minutes
Cooking time: 15 minutes
Serves 4

Ingredients
4 tortilla wrap
Mozzarella cheese (as much as you like)
1 - 1 1/2 cup fresh pineapple chunks (or canned)
4 tsp double concentrate tomato puree
8 cherry tomatoes, quartered (optional)

For the chicken
250g chicken breast or fillet, cut into thin strips
1 tsp light soy sauce
1/8 tsp cumin powder
1/8 tsp coarse black pepper
1/8 tsp dried thyme
1 tbsp cooking or olive oil

To garnish
Fresh basil, chopped

1. Preheat oven to 180°C (no fan). Line two baking trays with baking paper.

2. Place all ingredients for chicken in a bowl and mix well. Leave to marinate for 2-3 minutes.

3. Heat oil in a wok or large frying pan over medium high heat. Add chicken and cook for 4-5 minutes, until cooked through.

4. To assemble your pizza: Place tortilla wraps on baking tray. Spread 1 tsp tomato puree onto each tortilla base, then top with generous amount of mozzarella cheese. Top with other ingredients such as cooked chicken strips, pineapple chunks and cherry tomatoes.

5. Place in preheated oven and cook for 8-10 minutes, until base is crisp and cheese has melted. Remove from oven, slice into quarters or eighths, garnish with fresh basil and enjoy!

Note: The Cirio concentrated tomato puree is available in tubes. Handy to have in the kitchen. For the tortilla wraps, we prefer the "G" brand best for homemade pizzas.

Pizzeria at Hard Rock Hotel Penang

Pizzeria at Hard Rock Hotel Penang is a casual, relaxed spot in the hotel to grab a delicious Italian meal. The menu features an inviting array of appetizers, salads, wood-fired oven pizzas, soups, mains, pastas and desserts.

Located at the hotel poolside, guests can enjoy an al fresco lunch with a view of the hotel pool or beach as well as the open kitchen.

The wood-fired oven pizza is a must-have here.. we chose the Pizzeria 'Smoked' Hawaiian (RM43 for 9"), a lovely thin crust pizza topped with generous amount of smoked turkey ham, pineapple, capsicum, jalapenos, cheese and barbecue sauce.

Here at Pizzeria, we had the creamiest, richest carbonara pasta.... it was so good! The spaghetti comes with streaky beef bacon and mushrooms, topped with a poached egg and shaved Grana Padano cheese for that extra silky, rich finish.

Spaghetti carbonara ala romana (RM48)

The good food doesn't end there... we also had the 1kg Chilean black mussels (RM45), braised with spicy tomato sauce, English parsley and cherry tomatoes, served with toasted baguette. Plump, succulent mussels in a mouthwatering tangy sauce. Perfect for sharing, our mussel-loving family definitely enjoyed this!

Click here for the a la carte menu.

Opening times: 11am - 11pm daily.
