New Menu @ The Barn, 1 Mont Kiara , KL

The Barn has recently revamped their menu so we went back this week to check it out. On the current menu, you will find tapas + small plates, appetizers, cold cuts, sausages, burgers, meats, from the sea, pizza, pasta and even Asian favorites such bak kut teh and braised pork trotters.

To start, we ordered the Tapas Combo Platter (RM68), which features their best-selling tapas items such as the crispy pork belly and pork satay with peanut sauce, as well as fried chicken wings, luncheon fries, deep fried button mushrooms and potato wedges. My favorite was the crispy pork belly, which was tender and flavorful with crunchy pork crackling. Other components of this platter was also nicely done - super sinful!

We were quite surprised to see Hokkien Mee (RM27) on the menu, to be honest. However, we certainly did not regret ordering this - they did a good job and it tasted pretty authentic. We could clearly see that the customers loved it too, as we saw plates after plates of Hokkien mee being served during lunch hour while we were there. The Hokkien mee here is cooked with "famous Petaling Street black sauce", with generous amount of pork lard, king prawns and squid.

One of the appetizers we tried here is the oven-baked Portobello mushroom (RM29) which was topped with bacon, tomato and oozy mozzarella cheese. Hubby liked this a lot. I saw another interesting appetizer on the menu which we didn't try this time - Kentucky Fried Frog.

We had the signature pork ribs the last time we were here, and enjoyed it. We were told that this oven-roasted baby back pork ribs (RM59) is an improved recipe. Our waiter arrives with our ribs and flambes it with some brandy before placing it on a wooden board before us. The ribs were tender and falling off the bone, however we felt that it could use a little bit more sauce. So, we requested for some extra bbq sauce and they happily obliged. The ribs are now served with roasted potatoes and vegetables as well as coleslaw.

For dessert, we had the creme brulee (RM25) served with a scoop of ice cream. The custard base was rich and creamy, however it was lacking the layer of hard caramel. Still good, though.

The BAR°N, 1 Mont Kiara, KL

Life is good. This week has been filled with lots of good food, including this fantastic pork feast at The BARN we had at 1 Mont Kiara mall.

You can literally have it all at The BAR°N - it houses a restaurant, serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, or small bites (tapas), as well as a cigar lounge, bar area (with live bands playing daily) and a wine room (where you can purchase a selection of fine wines). It is well suited for family dining, or for any individual looking for a place to unwind or enjoy good food and drinks after a long day.

To start, I ordered one of The Barn's special cocktails, Sexy Back (RM26). I admit that I was attracted to this its catchy name. Deliciously potent!

Sexy Back - Malibu, Midori, rum, pineapple, mango, passion juice

Hubby had a glass of Luis Felipe Edwards Chardonnay.

On the menu at The Barn, you will be able to find a selection of small bites (tapas), main courses, pasta, Wagyu as well as desserts. We wanted to try more items from their menu so we opted for a few tapas dishes and one main course and a cold cut platter.

Cold cuts and a glass of wine/ beer goes hand in hand. We had the Barcelona platter (RM42), comprising of 4 types of premium meats - milano salami, gypsy ham, iberico ham, and shoulder ham, served with a mix of olives, capers in balsamic vinaigrette.

The only non-pork item that we had that afternoon, the garlic prawns tapas (RM12.90). Juicy, plump prawns marinated with garlic and herbs and then sauteed with butter. Yum!

We were contemplating whether to order the crispy pork belly (RM12.90) from the tapas menu or the slow roasted pork belly (mains), but we finally settled for the former. Fantastic choice, I would say - it looked gloriously crispy and our first bite confirmed that the crackling was beautifully crispy. The meat is juicy with nice ratio of melting fats. Highly recommended.

The bacon wrap sausages (RM12.90) were a little plain on its own, but after dipping in some of the BBQ sauce which came with the pork ribs that we ordered, it transformed into a delicious bite.

German sausage - simple and good!

The Famous BBQ Pork Ribs (RM37) was the highlight of the meal for us. The ribs were cooked until tender and falling off the bone, then served with a BBQ sauce made in-house. We loved the ribs, and the fries were excellent too!

For dessert, we tried the Red Velvet Cake as well as cheesecake. We would have liked the red velvet cake with a little more cream but we certainly could not fault the cheesecake - rich, sinful and slightly tangy. They also do some good coffee here - Hubby had an affogato, served with Kapiti ice cream, which he declared as "excellent".

Thank you to The Barn for having us!

Verdict: Lovely ambiance, great food, would be great to return one evening to check out the live band performances.
