BabySumoKids are regulars at Moon Palace as they often come here for the dim sum with their grandparents. A couple of weeks ago, they were craving dim sum so they suggested that we try out the place with them.
Fortunately for us, they were running their RM4.80 promotion on selected dim sums, which was a really good deal. That promo is now over, but I believe they have a new promo now, which is 30% off for dim sum from Mondays to Fridays (11am - 5pm).
Our favorite here was the Steamed pork dumpling with black truffle (RM10.60). They were meaty and juicy, and you could smell the truffle oil as soon as it arrives at your table. Had two servings of this - a steal at RM4.80!
They have the regular siew mai too - Steamed pork dumpling with fish roe (RM7.42) - which our kids love. Most of the dim sum items that we ordered came in portions of four, which was just nice for our family of four.
The signature Steamed fresh prawn dumpling (RM7.95) features fresh, bouncy prawns wrapped in a translucent skin.
Baby C likes the lo mai kai (Steamed glutinous rice with chicken - RM6.68) - the rice was soft, sticky and flavorful. Pretty decent.
From the deep fried items, we selected the Deep fried bean curd skin roll with prawn (RM9.54) as well as the Golden salad prawn dumpling with mint dressing (RM9.54). Both were non-greasy and crispy ... thumbs up!
For desserts, we had the Steamed salted egg yolk custard bun (RM7.42) which had a rich, indulgent filling (BabySumoKid's favorite!) as well as the Steamed bun with egg yolk and lotus (RM8.80) which I ordered cos it looked cute (who doesn't like little chicks!). Each of these chick buns had a lotus paste filling with a whole salted egg yolk (just like what you would find in a mooncake)... I quite like this.
We always end our meal with some egg tarts (RM7.74). And if you're a fan of avocado, you have to try the Deep fried avocado with custard (RM8.48) - mildly sweetened avocado puree wrapped in crispy kataifi. I loved it!
Thanks to our little foodies for bringing us here; food was good and it was very reasonably priced thanks to the special promo.

Deli Portofino, Cheras Sentral Mall, KL
A new Hero Market recently opened in Cheras Sentral Mall and with it, comes a small cafe serving local favorites, called Deli Portofino. To be honest, when we first saw the name, we thought it was an Italian restaurant. Their menu is small, consisting only of 3 main items - nasi lemak, mee rebus and mee siam, as well as drinks.
We tried the nasi lemak set (RM6.90), which comes with fragrant coconut rice, sambal, cucumber, ikab bilis, peanut and your choice of meat - we went for the beef rendang, which was pretty tasty. We like the sambal, which is the sweet-spicy variant.Other than beef, you can also go for chicken rendang, ayam goreng berempah, or sotong sambal. Fried egg is an additional RM1. For the price, we were happy with the nasi lemak that we had here.
We also had the mee rebus (RM6.30), which comes with yellow noodles in a thick, creamy gravy. The gravy is usually made from sweet potatoes, curry powder, water, salted soybeans, dried shrimps and peanuts and is a combination of sweet, spicy and savoury flavours. The mee rebus was garnished with fried firm tofu, green chillies, spring onions, fried shallots, bean sprouts, calamansi lime, 1 (very) small piece of beef, and hard boiled egg. I enjoyed this too.
*Note: Jaya Grocer in Cheras Sentral Mall has closed down and replaced by Hero Market.

Sushi Tei @ Cheras Sentral Mall, KL
Decided to check out Sushi Tei for lunch a few weeks ago with Hubby when we were in Cheras Sentral Mall. Flipping through the menu, I was pleasantly surprised to find that their prices are pretty reasonable. They also have some set lunches available, but the choices and combinations offered did not really appeal to us so we went a la carte.
I can have salmon sashimi for RM11.80 (5 pcs) - thick slices with pretty good fat marbling. Fresh too! I am happy :)
Salmon sashimi
The chirashi don was decent for its price of RM13.80. An assortment of raw seafood (salmon, ebi, tuna, cuttlefish, octopus as well as tamago and pickled sakura sits atop the sushi rice.
We also ordered a katsu udon; soup noodles with chicken cutlet (RM17.80). Instead of udon, you can also choose ramen or soba and beef instead of chicken cutlet. The batter on the chicken katsu is not as nice as the one we usually have at Hokkaido Ichiba, but enjoyable enough and I like the big bowl of udon. Simple yet comforting.
On a separate visit, I had the tempura udon (RM18.80) which consisted of a large bowl of soupy udon as well as 2 prawn tempura and 1 brinjal tempura. The tempura batter was nice, light and crisp, but wish there was more vegetable tempura.
Service: Good.
Price: Total bill RM56.45. Please note that 10% service charge and 6% GST will be added to your bill.
Location: Sushi Tei, 700-UG-29E & 29F, Upper Ground Floor, Cheras Sentral Shopping Mall, Jalan Cheras. KM10, 56000 Kuala Lumpur.

Lam's Kitchen, Cheras Sentral Mall, KL
*Jaya Grocer as well as Lam's Kitchen in this location has closed down. -Oct 2015
Usually, when we visit Cheras Sentral Mall, we will go to Fresco for their no-frills (good) steaks. However, we just had steak the previous night so we opted to dine at Lam's Kitchen for a change. Lam's Kitchen serves Chinese cuisine, ranging from roasted meats to noodle dishes to fried rice to stir fry (dai-chow type) dishes. It is located at the back of Jaya Grocer supermarket near the non-halal section.
Hubby ordered the three combination rice (RM14.80), and he selected roast duck, roast pork (siew yuk) and BBQ pork (char siu). The portion is decent for the price paid (taking into account the location in a mall too). Most importantly, the meats were all nicely roasted - I especially liked the roast duck as the skin was very crispy.
I went for the prawn dry wantan noodles (RM9.80). It was a pretty good plate of wantan noodles, accompanied with plump prawn/pork wantans in soup. Served with pickled green chillies.
Opening times: 10am to 10pm.
Service: Good.
Price: Total bill rm34.90, including 2 drinks.
Location: Lam's Kitchen, Cheras Sentral Mall, Basement Level, Jalan 2/142A Off Jalan Cheras, KM10, 56000 Cheras, Kuala Lumpur. (inside Jaya Grocer)
