Jyu Jyu Yakiniku, Isetan The Gardens, KL

Jyu Jyu Yakiniku, one of our favourite yakiniku restaurants in KL, is now open at Isetan The Gardens. This new location is super convenient for us as it's our regular mall.  Here at the restaurant, you can find great cuts of beef at affordable prices.

You can order these off the a la carte menu and they also have set lunches (price starts from RM40 for the meat sets) and they also have all-you-can-eat buffets (prices start from RM185++ for 90 minutes)! Check out their page now for more info.

Thanks to Isetan Kuala Lumpur for the invite, we got to try their special menu which includes:

✨ Australian Wagyu
✨ Harami
✨ kalbi (boneless ribs)
✨ fillet
✨ diamond cut beef tongue
✨ baby octopus

So, basically you grill your own meats on the portable grills here. Our favourite cuts has to be the Australian wagyu and harami, just as good as I remembered them to be! Once grilled, you can dip them in one of 3 sauces available - lemon sauce, sweet sauce and signature sauce or a combination.

EATZ @ HongKong 食在香港, The Gardens Mall (Muslim-Friendly)

EATZ @ HongKong 食在香港 brings a taste of colonial Hong Kong cuisine to KL-ites at The Gardens Mall. Indulge in delicious cheese baked rice, noodles, HK milk tea as well as freshly baked polo bun and egg tarts from the bakery.

What sets EATZ @ HongKong apart from other char chan teng in Malaysia is that it is pork-free and Muslim-friendly, hence all Malaysians can enjoy the food here.  The kitchen is helmed by Terengganu-born Head Chef Kak Noor, together with special advisor and Creative Chef Johnny Wong from Hong Kong. Although pork-free, the outlet retains the authenticity of the dishes and elevate it to greater heights through the use of only the finest ingredients.

The menu highlights distinct tastes and dishes as far back as the 50s as well as favoured eats of today. Some of the signature dishes here at EATZ @ HongKong include Cheese-baked chicken cutlet with rice, Polo bun with truffle scrambled egg, Satay beef rice, Curry seafood rice, HK milk tea on ice bed and Souffle.

To start, we had the Swiss Sauce Chicken Wings (RM16.80) - finger licking goodness! The marinade was very flavorful and the wings were braised to perfection. For a complete meal, they also serve the Swiss wings with noodles or rice.

Must try - the HK milk tea on ice bed - this keeps the drink cool without diluting it!

The tea also contains frozen spheres of milk tea

The kids couldn't get enough of the Cheese-baked rice with chicken cutlet (RM22.80) -  we love the cheese, so rich and good, they said! The chicken cutlet, which is similar to chicken katsu was moist and juicy with a nice golden, crispy exterior.

My personal favourite was the Mala Spicy Fishball in Dry Nissin Noodle (RM15.80). Perfect for those who love a spicy kick to their food.

We also had the Braised beef brisket soup noodle (RM19.80), with slow braised beef, white radish and mee suah-type noodles in a tangy tomato based soup.

Other than noodles, they also have specialty rice dishes, Japanese curry, fried rice, fried spaghetti, and grill items. From the grill, we had one of their signatures - the 180g Australian beef striploin at a very reasonable price of RM37.80. The pan-grilled steak is served with fries as well as cauliflower and broccoli. For those who want to splurge, there is also Australian Wagyu for under RM100.

Don't forget to leave room for desserts. The must-try dessert here at EATZ @ HongKong is Ms. Souffle (RM15.80), which was light, fluffy and absolutely delicious! There is a 20-minute waiting time for this, but it is well worth the wait.

Also not to be missed are the polo bun (RM6.80) and egg tarts (RM3.80 per piece), which are freshly baked on-site every morning. The polo bun was soft with a lovely crusty top, great eaten with thick slabs of butter in the center.

Mochi topped with peanuts and brown sugar syrup (RM8.80)

Murals done in collaboration with local artists, Aleff Ahmad and Ong Cai Bin, showing how Hong Kong cuisine has changed through the years.

Pork-free.

Opening times: Mon-Fri (except PH) 8am - 10pm; Sat, Sun & PH 11am -10pm.

YU 御, The Gardens Mall: Hi-Tea Dim Sum

Sip on Chinese tea and indulge in a hi-tea with an Oriental twist, at YU 御 by Ruyi. Located at The Gardens Mall, YU 御 is an intimate Chinese restaurant serving pork-free modern Chinese cuisine.

The Hi-Tea Dim Sum set is available on weekdays (excluding Public Holidays) from 2pm to 4pm and includes delicate handmade dim sum and a delicious Bird's Nest dessert. Priced at RM98 for 2 pax, the set also comes with your choice of two drinks (choice of juice, soft drinks, coffee or tea).

Hubby and I visited YU 御 one fine Monday and thoroughly enjoyed a leisurely afternoon at the restaurant. The set came with two identical steamer baskets, filled with most of their signature items such as the Sakura prawn dumpling, Shanghai xiao long bao, Beetroot scallop dumpling, Truffle seafood dumpling, Beancurd pomegranate and Siew mai. We could definitely taste the freshness and quality of the ingredients used in their steamed dim sum.

On the two-tier set, you will find deep fried / pan fried items along with dessert. Some of my personal favourites include the adorable Wagyu puff, shaped like a bull, Crispy swan with smoked duck and Golden foie gras puff. Other fried items include Traditional yam puff, Crispy spring roll, Crispy bean curd prawn roll, Kataifi mango roll, HK style glutinous dumpling (ham sui kok) and Portuguese egg tart. For dessert, enjoy the HK style thousand layer cake, White lotus salted egg yolk hedgehog bun, Playboy lava carrot with peanut filling, Gula melaka honeycomb cake and a refreshing, indulgent Bird's Nest lemongrass infusion with basil seeds and mixed fruits.

Overall, a great selection of freshly made dim sum paired with excellent service and an exquisite ambiance. Perfect for an afternoon catch up with your friends, loved ones or business associates.

SeoulNami Korean BBQ, The Gardens Mall: Halal Chuncheon Chicken and More!

Riding on the crest of a wave, SeoulNami Korean BBQ has hit the shores of Kuala Lumpur. Located in The Gardens Mall, this pork-free, Muslim friendly restaurant will feature Halal-certified ingredients such as chicken, beef and seafood, cooked over hot charcoal embers.

The restaurant is inspired by the famous Korean BBQ Chicken from Chuncheon, situated in the northernmost of Seoul where the island of Nami lies. Here at SeoulNami, the chicken is marinated with one of their special marinade concoction, namely Spicy hot pepper, Sweet honey butter, Savoury ganjang and Salty salted chicken. They use only chicken thigh, to ensure that the chicken is always juicy and tender.

We decided to go for the Signature Tasting Set (RM269 for 4 pax) as it allows us to try 3 out of 4 of their Chuncheon chicken flavours, as well as other dishes such as the crabby kimchi jjigae, fist rice / Seoul spicy noodles, and kimchi trio. It also comes with 2 (jugs of) signature drinks and dessert.

This set comes with Hot pepper chicken, Honey butter chicken and Ganjang chicken. The staff explained to us how long we should cook the chicken, about 1 minute each side, flipping for a total of 4 times and then cutting to bite-size pieces. Of course if you like it to be more charred with crispier skin, you can leave it on for longer. Four types of dips are served - Seoul spicy sauce, sea salt, ssamjang, and soy powder, however we found the meat to be really flavourful and did not require further embellishments. Our favorite was the savoury Gangjang chicken, perfectly juicy and well-marinated. We rarely order chicken when having Korean BBQ, but SeoulNami totally changed our perception... never knew Korean BBQ chicken could be so good!

It also comes with cheese lava - best cooked on the hot grill - then wrap your cooked chicken in the melting cheese for the ultimate bite.

Three types of ban chan (side dishes) are served - chives and cucumber, red radish and a green salad (all refillable). The set also comes with a steamed egg custard that is cooked tableside for 7 minutes.

For a limited time, diners can also enjoy the Kimchi Trio for free (worth RM29) with the set. Enjoy fresh, fried and smoked kimchi (our favorite!).

The Crabby Kimchi Jjigae features a whole flower crab, cooked in a light, savoury stew with cabbage kimchi, scallops and tofu. Available on a la carte for RM49.

We chose Fist Rice over noodles as BabySumoKids love this (both making and eating them!). They did a real good job mixing the sticky rice, minced chicken and seaweed together and forming rice balls. Yummeh!  Available on a la carte for RM29.

Watch BabySumoKids making the Korean fist rice here!

The set also comes with 2 drinks, we went for the Out-of-the-world Lemonade which changes colour as lemon is added to it as well as the Fizzy Sour Plum Cooler.

We also tried the Korean bone-in short rib (RM139) - this was ready in a jiffy as beef takes much shorter time to cook. Super tender beef, in a sweet-savoury marinade - very delicious! They also do Beef Platter for RM119 or RM499 (short rib, Wagyu. beef rib fingers and beef belly).

We ordered a portion of Spicy baby octopus (RM39) and wow, this sure was fiery hot!

For dessert, you can indulge in Charcoal burnt cheese cake and Goguma on fire. The cheese cake is cooked directly on the charcoal for 15 minutes towards the end of your meal while the sweet potato requires about 40 minutes cooking time. We absolutely loved the sweet potato, so simple but so good!
