Crème De La Crème, Damansara Uptown

Crème De La Crème (CDLC) is Malaysia’s first and only artisanal dessert haven with highly-skilled local pastry chefs, who have worked and trained under world-renowned celebrity dessert master Christy Tania.  Located in Damansara Uptown, you will find artisanal ice cream and iconic petits gâteaux, all made using 100% all-natural fresh ingredients without preservatives, artificial flavourings or colourings.

Creme de la creme uptown

Not only are their delicate petits gâteaux extremely delicious, they're super Instaworthy too! To be honest, it was so difficult to choose which one to try cos they all looked so good. We settled for their bestsellers, the Longevity (RM25), Da Bomb (RM25), Beauty & the Beast (RM25) and Unicorn (RM22).

Our favourite was Da Bomb; this is literally the bomb in terms of flavours and textures. When serving, the server will light up a sparkler next to the fuse for you to photograph this dessert. This is made up of 63% dark chocolate and Madagascar vanilla ice cream, with hazelnut crunch, chocolate hazelnut praline ganache, dark chocolate dip and gold almond crumble. Perfect for chocolate lovers!

The Longevity takes after the steamed peach bun commonly served on birthdays and eaten to represent a long life. Here at Crème De La Crème, the peach is still served in a dim sum steamer basket. However make no mistake, as this is not a steamed bun, instead it is made up of Japanese matcha and black sesame ice cream, mango yuzu compote, lemon curd, matcha sponge and white chocolate dip.

Beauty & the Beast - if you've watched the movie, you'll be familiar with the enchanted rose encased in the glass case. This seems to be a really popular choice with the couples - a rose which you can eat, why not?  63% dark chocolate and Madagascar vanilla ice cream, morello cherry sorbet, dark chocolate crumble, chewy chocolate brownie, almond nibs and dark chocolate dip.

Unicorn - our girl loves unicorns, so this was a natural choice for her. Madagascar vanilla ice cream, lychee and raspberry sorbet, white chocolate dip and crispy meringues - this was rather light and refreshing.

The handcrafted ice creams are rich, creamy and smooth, with over 20 ice-cream flavours available daily, including bestsellers such as Gold Digger (salted caramel ice cream swirled with chocolate ganache and organic honey comb), Dragon Rose (dragon fruit, lychee and French rose sorbet), and French Earl Grey Boba (French Earl Grey tea ice cream swirled with caramelised brown sugar and topped with golden chewy boba).

Refreshing Mango and passion fruit sorbet

In addition, you will also find some really scrumptious drinks here such as the Matcha Monster (RM18). They use Niko Neko Kyoto matcha and as you sip the drink, you will also find chewy brown sugar boba inside. The drink is also topped with a homemade chewy matcha cookie monster on top (very cute, and you can stick your straw through it's mouth to get to the drink). #BobaLover is happy!

In conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival, Crème De La Crème has also created four new petits gâteaux in a limited-edition mooncake giftset, priced at RM129 for a box set of four. Lio Lim, CDLC’s Managing Director says, “With our ice cream mooncakes, we have not only conceptualised a series of iconic and delicious artworks, but they also tell a story which helps to revive the true meaning of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Our mooncakes will make you feel over the moon and are definitely one giant leap for mankind!”.

The four specially created petits gâteaux are:
Chang E’s Elixir: Kyoto Houjicha ice cream, Sesame crunch, White chocolate dip & Dark chocolate garnish. Sakura ice cream + Lychee rosemary compote as yolk.

Fly me to the Moon: Chocolate ice cream, Hazelnut crunch, Candied orange, Meringue & Gold flakes. Mandarin sorbet + Orange ganache as yolk.

Hard Rock Cafe Penang: New Look, New Menu

For a rocking good meal in Penang, Hard Rock Cafe Penang is the place to be. Located on the ground floor of the beachfront Hard Rock Hotel Penang,  the restaurant and bar recently underwent a month-long makeover in May this year and now sports an awesome new look, new vibes and new menu.

The menu features delicious American cuisine made famous by Hard Rock Cafes across the globe. In conjunction with Hard Rock's Founders Day on 14 June 2019, a brand new menu was launched, making the Penang outlet the first Hard Rock Cafe in Malaysia to feature this menu, which include the 24-Karat Gold Leaf Steak Burger™, Boozy Milkshakes, Buffalo Style-Sliders and more.

Brand new look - bright, bold and sleek

Cool memorabilia from local and international celebrities adorn the walls of the restaurant.

To start, we had the One Night in Bangkok Spicy Shrimp (RM35), crispy shrimp tossed in a creamy, spicy sauce on a bed of creamy coleslaw. The portions here are generous, making them perfect for sharing with your family and friends.

Next to arrive was the massive Steak Salad (RM49), 227g grilled and sliced flat iron steak on a bed of fresh mixed greens, a blue cheese vinaigrette, pickled red onions, red peppers and Roma tomatoes, finished with crispy shoestring onions and blue cheese crumble.

The highlight of our meal was the 24-Karat Gold Leaf Steak Burger (RM88), 227g juicy beef patty made using certified Black Angus steak, topped with 24-karat edible gold leaf, cheddar cheese, lettuce, vine-ripened tomato and red onion and sandwiched between toasted brioche buns. Served with a side of fries. The ultimate indulgence, a burger made for rockstars!

Insanely sexy, best looking burger we've had!

We highly recommend the decadent Cookies & Cream Milkshake (RM43), made with vanilla ice cream, white chocolate, Oreo cookies and whipped cream. There is also a boozy version with Absolut Vanilla Vodka. Other drinks we tried here are the refreshing Strawberry Basil Lemonade and Mango Berry Cooler.

End your meal on a sweet note, either with the classic Hot Fudge Brownie (RM45) or the New York Cheesecake (RM45).  The former features warm chocolate brownie cubes topped with vanilla bean ice cream, hot fudge, chopped walnuts, chocolate sprinkles, fresh whipped cream and a cherry on top.

Happiness in a glass :)

Rich and creamy New York-style cheesecake served with fresh strawberry sauce.

Diners can also catch the daily band performance from 10.30pm to 2.00am. To commemorate your visit, head over to the Rock Shop® to get your hands on city-specific Hard Rock Cafe Penang merchandise, including their world-famous t-shirts, hats, pins, and other collectible merchandise.

Service here is also commendable - warm and cheerful, a place where everyone feels like a VIP.

Opening hours: Sun to Thu: 11:30am - 2:00am; Fri, Sat & Eve of PH: 11:30am - 2:30am.
