Miyazaki Wagyu Beef Shabu-Shabu & Sukiyaki @ Hanare Japanese Restaurant, KL

Indulge in an evening of decadence at Hanare Japanese Restaurant, with premium Miyazaki wagyu beef air-flown from Japan. Located in Intermark Mall, this Japanese restaurant is no stranger to KL-ites who enjoy and appreciate authentic Japanese cuisine.

This special promotion is available for the month of June 2023. Diners can choose to have their beef sukiyaki or shabu-shabu-style. Sukiyaki is recommended for those who prefer heavier flavours, whilst shabu-shabu is great for those who prefer lighter flavours.

Each set is priced at RM480++ for 2 pax and comes with the following:

♥ 180g Mizayaki wagyu beef
♥ Two grilled Miyazaki beef skewers with cherry tomato
♥ Assortment of vegetables and noodles (udon for shabu-shabu and shirataki for sukiyaki)
♥ Dipping sauces (gomatare and ponzu for shabu-shabu and raw egg for sukiyaki)

If you're unsure on how to cook the sukiyaki / shabu-shabu, the friendly staff will be more than happy to assist you. I personally preferred the sukiyaki as I love stronger flavours, and it complemented the Miyazaki beef perfectly. The beef quality was excellent, as expected of premium Japanese beef. Great for families too, our kids thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience here at Hanare.

Reservations highly recommended; please call 03-2164 2133 to book your table.

Halal/Pork-Free.

Wagasa Yakiniku, Bukit Jalil, KL

If you're looking for something special for date night / family night out, Wagasa Yakiniku, located at The Link 2 in Bukit Jalil, offers an authentic Japanese yakiniku dining experience that is sure to please. The menu features premium A5 Japanese Wagyu from Kagoshima prefecture, Kurobuta pork as well as a variety of seafood.

Wagasa, literally translates as traditional umbrellas in Japanese; as you step foot into this restaurant, you will be greeted by the colorful sight of hanging umbrellas. You will be ushered into one of the private rooms so you can enjoy an intimate meal with your family or friends.

During our visit, we had the Japanese A5 Wagyu Shoulder Clod set (RM388 for 300g) which comes with 5 different cuts. The cuts were well-marbled, with differing textures when cooked. You can either self-grill or one of the friendly staff can assist you. The meat is grilled over charcoal embers, to your preferred doneness. The wagyu was really good, tender and flavorful. You can pair the meat with one of 3 condiments available - sesame oil and salt, chilli oil or garlic and coriander.

Refillable side dishes served with your meal

Other than wagyu, you can also get Kurobuta pork, highly revered for its outstanding texture, flavour and juiciness. We had the Kurobuta pork belly (RM48), with great, even marbling and fat layers. Very delicious indeed!

Burnt & Co, Artisan's Playground by Cookhouse

Located in Artisan's Playground by Cookhouse, Burnt & Co is the latest brainchild of The Karl's Group, who are also behind two other highly successful restaurants in Kuala Lumpur, Skillet at 163 and Beta KL. At Burnt & Co, things are kept a little more casual and focuses on food cooked in their Josper charcoal oven and Basque Grill, both powered by sustainable mangrove wood from Sarawak.

Artisan's Playground seats up to 400 pax and is family-friendly. Grab a table at the venue, scan the QR code to view the menus on your phone and place your orders. Once your order is ready, the cute robot cats will deliver your food to your table.

Food was impeccable. The a la carte menu comprises of signature toasts, small plates, mains and sides. Other than that, you can also opt for the tasting menu at the Chef's Table (RM208, wine pairing is available at an additional cost) and get upclose with all the kitchen action; available on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Here are some of the dishes which we tried at Burnt & Co:

✨ Chargrilled kailan with wild garlic oil and budu aioli (RM18)
✨ Baby potato & horseradish salad (RM28)
✨ Grilled baby octopus with red pepper sauce on sourdough toast (RM28)
✨ Smoked paprika king prawn (RM120)
✨ Mala honey smoked duck breast with herbaceous salad (RM45)
✨ Grilled Australian Wagyu Striploin M6 with chimichurri (RM180)
✨ Signature Wagyu burger with fries (RM38)

The Chargrilled Kailan is one of the most raved about dishes here at Burnt & Co. This humble vegetable is chargrilled directly on coals, imparting an intense smoky flavour to greens. Served with buah kulim (wild garlic) oil, crispy garlic chips and budu aioli.

Blackened baby potato salad, served with carrot, horseradish, bacon and lime zest

Red peppers are roasted in the charcoal oven to accentuate the sweetness. Topped on sourdough toast along with grilled baby octopus, pickled jalapeno, shallots and herbs.

Fresh, large king prawn smothered with paprika butter, crouton, bell pepper sauce, lime zest... delicious!

Tender slices of mala honey smoked duck, served with a refreshing herbaceous orange salad.

Simple and very well executed striploin.... cooked to perfection!

Juicy juicy Wagyu burger!

Shabu-Yo: All-You-Can-Eat Shabu-Shabu and Sukiyaki from Japan!

Shabu-Yo, the authentic all-you-can-eat shabu shabu and sukiyaki restaurant from Japan has landed in Kuala Lumpur. Shabu-Yo opened its first and only outlet in Malaysia, on 12 August at Sunway Velocity Mall. The restaurant is part of the SKYLARK Group, the largest restaurant chain in Japan.

Shabu-Yo Malaysia

Shabu-Yo offers unlimited high-quality meats and fresh vegetables with healthy soup options and original-made sauces as well as rice, noodles, fried food, drinks and desserts.

Start by choosing a course - you can either go for Australian Wagyu & Pork & Chicken, Beef & Pork & Chicken or Pork & Chicken. After that, choose two of our preferred soup base, from chicken and pork, yuzu, sukiyaki, Japanese amber or mala soup. Each table is equipped with a tablet, so you can order as much meat as you like, whenever you desire (90 minutes for lunch and 120 minutes for dinner). Diners can also help themselves to unlimited vegetables, noodles, rice and dessert at the buffet table. Diners are required to wear their face mask as well as gloves at the buffet table.

Service was pretty quick, and we were served our soups and meats within minutes of placing our order. We went for the Australian Wagyu & Pork & Chicken course, which comes unlimited orders of Australian Wagyu karubi, beef chuck roll, beef karubi, pork collar, pork belly, chicken, tsukune and dumplings. All the beef cuts and pork cuts were equally good - fresh with great marbling on them. For the soup, we went for the Chicken & Pork as well as Yuzu. For now, there is an opening promotion for this course - RM68.80 (lunch) / RM75.80 (dinner) on weekdays and RM73.80 (lunch) / RM79.80 (dinner) for weekends at lunch. Definitely worth going for this if you love your Wagyu.

From the buffet table, you can help yourself to fresh vegetables, enoki mushrooms, and fish balls. One of the must-try is the signature Shabu-Yo vege, which is like thinly shredded spring onion, carrot, ginger, which you eat together with the meat. There are over 30 different sauces and condiments to choose from, however the most popular ones are ponzu, goma, onion, sour plum and homemade chilli sauce. Apparently the Japanese curry rice is another must-try item here, though we didn't have enough space to try it this time. For dessert, there is soft serve ice cream as well as make-your-own waffles.
