Recipe: Mixed Berries Smoothie Bowl

The raging hot weather has got us craving for something nice and cold! So what's nice, cold AND healthy too? A smoothie bowl!

Perfect for breakfast or as a cold treat, I made my smoothie base using cold milk, mixed berries and banana. Just blitz them together in a blender until you get a thick puree (it's just like eating yogurt). Then, let you creativity run wild and beautify your smoothie bowl with ingredients of your choice - I went for chia seed, sliced bananas, dessicated coconut, mint leaves and more mixed berries. Love how pretty our smoothie bowl looked..... and it was absolutely delicious too!

Shabu-Yo: All-You-Can-Eat Shabu-Shabu and Sukiyaki from Japan!

Shabu-Yo, the authentic all-you-can-eat shabu shabu and sukiyaki restaurant from Japan has landed in Kuala Lumpur. Shabu-Yo opened its first and only outlet in Malaysia, on 12 August at Sunway Velocity Mall. The restaurant is part of the SKYLARK Group, the largest restaurant chain in Japan.

Shabu-Yo Malaysia

Shabu-Yo offers unlimited high-quality meats and fresh vegetables with healthy soup options and original-made sauces as well as rice, noodles, fried food, drinks and desserts.

Start by choosing a course - you can either go for Australian Wagyu & Pork & Chicken, Beef & Pork & Chicken or Pork & Chicken. After that, choose two of our preferred soup base, from chicken and pork, yuzu, sukiyaki, Japanese amber or mala soup. Each table is equipped with a tablet, so you can order as much meat as you like, whenever you desire (90 minutes for lunch and 120 minutes for dinner). Diners can also help themselves to unlimited vegetables, noodles, rice and dessert at the buffet table. Diners are required to wear their face mask as well as gloves at the buffet table.

Service was pretty quick, and we were served our soups and meats within minutes of placing our order. We went for the Australian Wagyu & Pork & Chicken course, which comes unlimited orders of Australian Wagyu karubi, beef chuck roll, beef karubi, pork collar, pork belly, chicken, tsukune and dumplings. All the beef cuts and pork cuts were equally good - fresh with great marbling on them. For the soup, we went for the Chicken & Pork as well as Yuzu. For now, there is an opening promotion for this course - RM68.80 (lunch) / RM75.80 (dinner) on weekdays and RM73.80 (lunch) / RM79.80 (dinner) for weekends at lunch. Definitely worth going for this if you love your Wagyu.

From the buffet table, you can help yourself to fresh vegetables, enoki mushrooms, and fish balls. One of the must-try is the signature Shabu-Yo vege, which is like thinly shredded spring onion, carrot, ginger, which you eat together with the meat. There are over 30 different sauces and condiments to choose from, however the most popular ones are ponzu, goma, onion, sour plum and homemade chilli sauce. Apparently the Japanese curry rice is another must-try item here, though we didn't have enough space to try it this time. For dessert, there is soft serve ice cream as well as make-your-own waffles.

Recipe: Big Breakfast with Solisege

Rise and shine and eat breakfast like a king! There's no better way to start your day than with a wholesome and hearty Big Breakfast, also known as a Full English Breakfast or fry-up. For me, the perfect fry-up must include fried egg, sausages, bacon or ham, baked beans, sauteed mushrooms, tomatoes and toast.

Big Breakfast recipe

My favourite bacon and ham brand in Malaysia is Solisege, and recently I found out that they have started doing online delivery. So, I got myself a delivery of fresh sausages, cooked sausages, streaky bacon, and premium ham.

I was really excited to try out their sausages since we've never had them before and they certainly lived up to my expectations. I had the Supirrio Apple Cinnamon sausages with the Big Breakfast and they were nice and juicy. They're easy to cook too ... simply pop them into a hot oven at 190°C and cook for 20-25 minutes.

Yay! Here's my delivery from Solisege :)

The stars of our Big Breakfast

BabySumoKids prefer ham over bacon for their Big Breakfast, so that's what we collectively had - the Solisege honey baked ham. The kids love this ham in their sandwiches and they're great eaten on its own too. I also spruced up the toast with some ripe avocado. A bang-on breakfast.. loved it!

Big Breakfast (Full English Breakfast)
Recipe by Baby Sumo
Preparation time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Serves 4

Ingredients
200g Supirrio apple cinnamon sausage
150g Solisege honey baked ham
150g white button mushroom, sliced
1 can baked beans
2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
2 tbsp cooking oil
1 tbsp butter
1/8 tsp dried thyme
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
4 eggs
8-10 cherry tomatoes
1 loaf grain bread, or any nice crusty bread, lightly toasted
1-2 ripe avocado, peeled and thinly sliced
Maldon salt or any sea salt
Freshly ground black pepper

1. Preheat oven to 190°C (roast mode).

2. Line a baking tray with foil, then place sausages on tray. Place in preheated oven and cook for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through. Remove from oven once cooked.

3. Pour baked beans into a saucepan and place over low heat. Gently cook for 10 minutes, until heated through.

4. In a frying pan over medium high heat, add 1 tbsp olive oil. Once hot, add the garlic and saute for 1 1/2 minutes, until fragrant and lightly golden. Then, add the mushrooms and saute for about 3-4 minutes, then add butter and thyme and cook for a further 1-2 minutes, until mushrooms are tender. Season with some salt. Remove and set aside.

5. In same frying pan, heat 1 tbsp olive oil over high heat. Add cherry tomatoes, season with some salt and pepper and cook for about 3-4 minutes, until skin is slightly blistered.

6. Clean pan and then add cooking oil. Over a medium high heat, fry the eggs one at a time.

7. To assemble: Place fried egg onto plate, followed by sausage and a slice of ham. If you prefer your ham served warm, you can pan fry it for 1-2 minutes in the pan. Then, spoon some baked beans, sauteed mushrooms, pan roasted tomatoes, and a slice of bread topped with avocado. Season avocado with Maldon salt, black pepper and some shichimi togarashi (optional). Enjoy!

Note:
1. The 200g Solisege sausages come with 4 links, if you would like to have 2 sausages per person, then please cook 2 packs.

Celebrate Qixi 七夕(Chinese Valentine's Day) at FUZE@SkyBar

Qixi Festival 七夕, also known as Chinese Valentine’s Day, is celebrated annually on the 7th day of the 7th month of the Chinese lunar calendar. On this day, young couples will celebrate with a romantic dinner outing and exchange of gifts.

The festival originated from the romantic legend of two lovers, Zhinü, a weaver girl and Niulang, a cowherd. They met and fell madly in love, however Zhinü was actually one of the seven daughters of the Goddess of Heaven, so their love is forbidden. They were banished to opposite sides of the Silver River (symbolizing the Milky Way). The heartbroken cries of the lovers inspired the Earth’s magpies to fly up and create a bridge between the heaven and the human world so that the two lovers could reunite. So, once a year, on the 7th day of the 7th lunar month, a flock of magpies would form a bridge to reunite the lovers for one day.

This year, Qixi falls on 25 August 2020, and Traders Hotel, Kuala Lumpur are presenting a special Qixi menu for two days (25th and 26th August) at FUZE@SkyBar. FUZE@SkyBar is the latest pop-up dining concept by Traders Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on Level 33 of the hotel serving Asian fusion cuisine.

Boasting spectacular views of the KL skyline and the famous Petronas Twin Towers, take your love to new heights and enjoy a memorable 5-course set menu dinner specially curated by Chef Mun and his team. Rose petals and sparkling Prosecco set the mood for a romantic night ahead.

Beautiful sunset views from FUZE@SkyBar

As the sun slowly set in the horizon, we were served our first course of the evening - the Duo of Valentine combination - steamed tiger prawn & chive dumpling and pan fried chicken gyoza, with reduced black vinegar and julienned ginger.

Next up, the Essence of free range chicken served in a young coconut - a wonderfully nourishing and comforting chicken consomme with dried porcini mushroom and chicken quenelle.

My favourite dish of the evening was the Cheese baked sang har - crispy egg noodles topped with cheese baked freshwater prawn and braised crab roe sauce. The perfect fusion of the famous Malaysian noodle dish and cheesy baked goodness!

For mains, you can choose between fish or lamb. Hubby had the Pan seared fillet of two-coloured fish featuring hoisin glazed salmon as well as turmeric & tamarind infused barramundi, served with Asian sauteed vegetables and mayo rice sprinkled with kizami nori. Meanwhile, me being the meat lover went for the Chinese char siew grilled lamb chops served steamed nai pak, carrots, and zaru soba. Sweet, sticky and delicious!

For a sweet end to your meal, indulge in this gorgeous Raspberry heart mousse chocolate. And if you want to impress her further, may I recommend the Ice Potong + Prosecco cocktail, whereby you can choose from one of three popsicle flavours (lychee, strawberry mint and asam boi calamansi) and pop into your glass of prosecco Trust Traders Hotel, Kuala Lumpur to put the fun element into everything! :)
