Hotel Review: GEO Resort & Hotel, Genting Highlands

If you're planning a trip to Genting Highlands for the upcoming school holidays, check out GEO Resort & Hotel, which is conveniently located in Genting Permai. We recently stayed here in their Family Suite and had an amazing time. 



This posh boutique hotel has a total of 252 elegant rooms and suites, ranging from Superior Room to the Premier Suite, to suit every guest's needs. Our Family Suite was spacious, with a king sized bed (for the parents) and a queen size bunk bed (for the kids). I don't know what it is about bunk beds that get kids excited, but our kids love them so it was a real treat for them to be able to sleep in one during their holidays. Each suite comes with a marble bathroom with a standing shower, 55" SMART LCD TV, coffee machine/tea making facilities,  as well as a balcony to enjoy your morning coffee and the spectacular mountain views. 






Breakfast is served daily at Cabana, the hotel's all day dining restaurant located by the poolside. The breakfast spread was extensive and really good; we especially enjoyed the freshly made roti canai, mee goreng, nasi lemak and pastries. In the evenings, you can opt to have steamboat here too while enjoying the cool crisp air in Genting Highlands. Priced at RM100 per person (min 2 pax), you will get a variety of fresh seafood (fish, squid, mussels, prawns), beef slices, an assortment of balls and tofu, vegetables, yee mee noodle and eggs along with two soup bases (chicken stock and tom yum). 




Take a dip in the heated infinity swimming pool or children's pool or just relax on one of many lounge chairs at the poolside. There is also a well equipped gym on the same level. 





The hotel's location is really ideal; it is a short 15-min drive up to SkyAvenue or Genting Skyworlds Theme Park. The Genting Premium Outlet as well as the Awana Skyway is just 3km away, so you can also opt to take a cable car up to the top while enjoying the scenic view.

Go Beyond Breakfast with Ayam Brand™ Baked Beans

In Malaysia, baked beans are commonly associated with the American-style big breakfast or full English breakfast, paired with a generous portion of eggs, sausage, beef bacon and mushrooms. However, baked beans can actually be consumed in so many delicious ways that go beyond breakfast.

Ayam Brand™ has curated a series of non-breakfast baked beans recipes to introduce the next generation of consumers to the nutritional value, versatility, convenience and deliciousness of these protein and fiber-packed beans.

Ayam Brand™ Baked Beans use specially selected high quality, large northern Haricot beans for the taste and texture. Why baked beans, though?

Baked beans are high in plant protein and in fiber, making them an ideal affordable protein source for vegetarians¹, and non-vegetarians alike. The protein in baked beans helps with muscle growth, increasing strength, recovery, and repair after a workout. Due to the high protein content, baked beans could be a perfect alternative to meat for vegetarians. The high fiber content in baked beans helps to slow down the absorption of blood sugar, provides a feeling of satiety and gives a steady stream of energy throughout the day².

They also contain iron, lycopene and folate³. Baked beans in tomato sauce are a rich source of iron. Iron deficiency may lead to feeling tired, lack of focus and low energy levels and in severe cases could result in anemia. It is rich in lycopene – an antioxidant extracted from the tomato. Lycopene can reduce cell damage through its antioxidant benefits.

For women planning their pregnancy, adding baked beans to their diet three months before conception can add folate which helps to naturally increase vitamin B levels. Folate has been shown to reduce the probability of neural tube defects in babies. Baked beans are virtually free of saturated fat – a delicious way of reducing the risk of heart disease.

Try these recipes starring Ayam Brand™ Baked Beans to go beyond breakfast!



Sardine Baked Beans with Lempeng

Lempeng is the popular Malaysian pancake that works as an anytime meal or snack. Pair it with this quick and easy, piquant sardine and baked beans curry for a protein packed meal.

Heat oil in a pan, add chopped onion, minced garlic and if you like it spicy, add some finely sliced green chilies into the pan. Sauté until fragrant. Stir in a pack of Ayam Brand™ Chopped Tomatoes and some chili paste, cook a while on low heat. Add in the contents of one can of Ayam Brand™ Sardines in Tomato Sauce and one can of Ayam Brand™ Baked Beans. Allow to heat through, stirring occasionally until well combined. Add salt and pepper to taste.

Prep time: 10 minutes, cook time: 15 minutes, serves: 4 pax


Mini Jacket Potatoes with Baked Beans (Suitable for Vegetarians)

We love the jacket potatoes at steakhouses and fancy restaurants, but we don’t love the prices! Make your own jacket potatoes at home. Surprisingly easy to prepare, although they do take some time to bake.

Heat your oven to 180°C. Wash 200g of baby potatoes (regular potatoes will work, remember to give them a good scrub and more time in the oven). Pat dry and prick all over with a fork. Coat with olive oil and toss with salt. Arrange the potatoes on a baking sheet in a single layer and bake for 40 minutes. Cool for 10 minutes. Cut a tiny cross into the top of each potato, then lightly pinch the base to create an opening.

Top each potato with a teaspoon of Ayam Brand™ Baked Beans, a dash of chili flakes and a sprinkling of chopped spring onion. To add tanginess, finish with a squeeze of lemon juice. Serve immediately.

Prep time: 10 minutes, cook time: 50 minutes, serves: 4 pax


Spaghetti with Baked Beans Sauce (Suitable for Vegetarians)

Here’s an easy dinner or lunch pasta meal using baked beans instead of ready-made pasta sauce.

Heat some oil in a pan. Add minced garlic and onion, fry until fragrant. Add half a can of Ayam Brand™ Tomato Puree and ground pepper, stirring for two minutes. Next add two cans of Ayam Brand™ Baked Beans, heat through and stir until well combined. Use an immersion blender to blend into a paste. No immersion blender? Use the back of a ladle to mash or pour the sauce into a blender to whizz.

While cooking the sauce, prepare the pasta according to the instruction on the pack. Reserve one cup of pasta water for the sauce.

Add the cooked pasta into the blended sauce. Combine well, adding some pasta water until the sauce reaches the consistency that you prefer.

To serve, garnish with chopped parsley. You may replace Ayam Brand™ Baked Beans with Ayam Brand™ Baked Beans Cheese if your kids prefer a creamier texture and cheesier tasting pasta.

Prep time: 10 minutes, cook time: 15 minutes, serves: 4 pax


Baked Beans Patties (Suitable for Vegetarians)

This dish takes it inspiration from South Indian vadai, and Middle Eastern falafel. Turn it into a sandwich or wrap, akin to a falafel sandwich, serve as a side dish to any main meal or have it as a snack.

Stir-fry finely chopped carrots, green chilies, and Ayam Brand™ Whole Kernel Corn with salt until softened. In a big bowl, add in softened carrots, corn, green chilies and drained Ayam Brand™ Baked Beans Light which has 48% less sugar. Then, mash all the ingredients together completely. Add some corn flour to this mixture to create a workable dough. Add some finely minced ginger, onion and coriander leaves to the mixture and mix well using your fingers. Season with salt and chili powder to taste.

Shape into medium-sized patties. Coat patties in breadcrumbs and arrange on a plate. Heat oil in a shallow frying pan. Fry on one side until crispy, then flip and crisp up the other side. Fry in batches, and do not overcrowd the pan.

Prep time: 10 minutes, cook time: 20 minutes, serves: 4 pax

Seafood & BBQ Buffet @ Sedap Restaurant, Pullman KLCC

Sedap Restaurant in Pullman KLCC has recently launched a new promotion, whereby guests can enjoy unlimited live oysters, live jumping prawns, fresh lobster, BBQ, whole roasted lamb and a whole lot more. Happening every Saturday from 6.30pm to 10pm, seafood lovers are in for a treat with the extensive spread available. 



Sedap Restaurant is the first buffet in KL that offers guests the experience of watching the chefs catch live jumping tiger prawns from the aquarium which will be then be prepared to your preferred cooking method (you can choose to grill, poach or let it simmer in a superior stock soup base). Other than that, guests can also indulge in a variety of seafood on ice such as slipper lobsters, scallops, yabbies, mussels, snow crab, tiger prawns, mud crabs and freshly shucked premium live oysters from Ireland. 








One of the main highlight of the dinner buffet is the Boston lobster. All guests are served with half a fresh Boston lobster that is oven-baked and topped off with chef’s special creation, the percik sauce. 




From the grill, guests can enjoy the selection of beef and  lamb steak, marinated stingray, grilled clams with Portuguese sauce, sausages, fish otak-otak and chicken wings. There will also be a myriad of skewers, from juicy chicken and beef satay, fish tikka, chicken and beef meatball, chicken liver and an assortment of veggies. Besides the local grill, guests will get to taste Japanese chicken yakitori skewers and deep-fried golden tempura  at the live cooking stations. 







There will also be a whole roasted Norwegian salmon fillet as well as a whole roasted lamb served with nasi briyani. Be tantalised with the array of fresh sashimi and sushi, and don't forget to check out the Western and Asian dishes on the buffet line. 





End your meal on a sweet note, with frozen yogurt straight from the machine; choose from plain or rotating flavours such as passion fruit, green apple and berries. Also available at the dessert counter are honey bee baked cheesecake, red velvet cheese mousse, chocolate brownies rocher, strawberry panna cotta and lemon choux puff.

Over 9,000 Malaysians Raise Funds for Environmental Sustainability with #ShopeeGivesBack
Donors pledge their support for a more sustainable nation, with 61% donating for the first time


#ShopeeGivesBack, Shopee’s long-term community initiative, has raised over RM48,000 from 1 May 2020 to 31 July 2022 for two Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) championing environmentally-conscious efforts in Malaysia. Over two years, WWF-Malaysia and Zero Waste Malaysia received donations from over 9,000 donors, including over 5,500 first time donors.

85% of the funds raised went to assisting WWF-Malaysia, a national conservation trust with more than 90 ongoing projects nationwide. Funds raised are used to safeguard some of Malaysia’s most iconic wildlife – including the Malayan tiger, Bornean elephants, Bornean orangutans and sea turtles – from threats such as poaching and habitat loss. WWF-Malaysia continues to address environmental issues to spread awareness, support education and research, and conserve the local landscape flora and fauna, water, soils, and other natural resources.

 


Across the two years, Zero Waste Malaysia received 15% of their total donations through #ShopeeGivesBack, supporting them in their efforts to go further in achieving their mission of building a waste-free and sustainable future for the nation. Zero Waste Malaysia advocates for sustainable development and aims to increase the local community’s awareness of sustainable living through education, resources, public engagement, and on-ground initiatives. In 2021 alone, Zero Waste Malaysia received 13% of their total donations through #ShopeeGivesBack.

Huiyan Pan, Head of Brand Marketing at Shopee Malaysia said, “Shopee is moved by the reception of the community in supporting the efforts of our NGO partners in contributing towards environmental change. We firmly believe that with greater awareness and support from shoppers on our marketplace, we can strike a balance towards building a long-term, sustainable future for the environment and the economy.”

“Shopee appreciates being able to play a part in WWF-Malaysia’s conservation efforts and is thrilled to hear about the efforts that have reduced 90% of snare encounters for the Malayan tiger. In 2020 and 2021, more fresh sightings of the tigers, including a mother and three cubs, were discovered in the Belum-Temengor Forest Complex,” Pan continued.

During Ramadan in 2021 and 2022, these two NGOs saw a collective month-on-month increase in donations of 85% and 113% respectively, from March to April compared to other months through #ShopeeGivesBack. Of the 1,400 donations received, WWF-Malaysia and Zero Waste Malaysia saw 1,000 first time donors donating during a time where generous Malaysians were giving back to communities and causes close to their hearts and values.

“The majority of our donations come from the public, hence the #ShopeeGivesBack platform has helped us reach wider audiences to raise the much needed public support that ensures the continuity of WWF-Malaysia’s vital conservation projects. WWF-Malaysia is also taking action to promote sustainable lifestyles and increase resilience to climate change through policy advocacy and conserving natural ecosystems,” said Helina Yow, Director of Partnerships, WWF-Malaysia.

#ShopeeGivesBack was launched on 1 May 2020 to help the underserved communities in Malaysia across four areas: underprivileged communities development, children and family services, health charities, and environmental charities. The platform provides Malaysians with an online avenue to support their favourite causes in the most convenient way. Shopee ensures that these NGOs have credible track records and are registered with the Registry of Societies.

Thai Cuisine Wonder @ Four Points Puchong

Thailand is world-famous for its mouthwatering cuisine and for good reason. Be prepared as Four Points by Sheraton, Puchong brings Thai cuisine to light at The Eatery restaurant this month, with freshly cooked Thai food daily. 


With 20 years of experience in the kitchen, Chef Ruchiret Thavongyot also known as Chef Teena, will feature curated recipes from Thailand, including specialties such as Pandan Chicken, Homemade Thai Fish Cake, Som Tam, Tom Kha Gai, Thai Green Curry Chicken, Thai Panang Curry Beef and more. She will also present some delicious Thai desserts such as Water Chestnut in Coconut Milk, Thai Mango Sticky Rice, Thai Cendol, and Thai Banana in Syrup.
