Miyabi Japanese Restaurant, Sheraton Petaling Jaya

Miyabi is the contemporary Japanese restaurant located within the luxurious Sheraton Petaling Jaya Hotel, serving authentic Japanese cuisine such as teppanyaki, sushi and sashimi. Dressed in natural wood, modern Japanese pottery and origami artworks, the spacious restaurant can seat up to 121 pax, with seatings in the main restaurant, private dining rooms as well as the sushi bar or teppanyaki counter, where you can watch the chefs skillfully prepare your dinner.

Helmed by Chef Dino Png, the restaurant offers a vast menu, ranging from affordable set lunches to a traditional full course Kaiseki meal. Diners can also leave it to the chef to create an omakase menu, just like we did.

To start, we had an assortment of signature appetizers, namely the Koebi Karaage (deep fried river shrimp), Watari Kani Unagi Harumaki (rice paper roll filled with soft shell crab tempura, Japanese eel, avocado, lettuce and cucumber, with sesame dressing) and Umi Budo (sea grapes with ponzu sauce).

Next, we had the Dobin Mushi, a light soup with seafood and mushrooms served in a teapot. Add a squeeze of lime before enjoying.

Sashimi is always the highlight of any Japanese meal for me. Luscious, thick slices of toro (fatty tuna belly), kanpachi and tai..incredibly fresh, what's not to love about this? As with most respectable Japanese restaurants, they get shipment twice a week (Tuesday and Friday) for their sashimi.

Look at that beautiful marbling on the toro!

Uni (sea urchin) is wrapped in seaweed and then coated in a light batter for our tempura course. This is also served with an assortment of vegetables such as crispy enoki mushroom and mild, sweet shishito (Japanese green peppers).

The showstopper for the evening is the Wagyu beef tenderloin and cod fish shioyaki, served on a sizzling, hot stone grill. The beef is tender and juicy while the fish was sweet and delicate. To finish off our meal, we were offered either the Inaniwa udon in a light broth or garlic fried rice and miso soup.

For the kids, Chef Dino kindly prepared a salmon sashimi platter for them as well as Miyabi Special Maki (RM80) which comes with breaded prawn, soft shell crab, Japanese eel and vegetables.

For dessert, the adults had the Green tea cheesecake with mixed fruits while the kids enjoyed a scoop of green tea ice cream with red bean paste.

Opening times: 12.00pm - 2.30pm; 6.30pm - 10.30pm daily.

Festive Sunday Brunch @ Kwee Zeen, Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara

There's no better way to spend the festive season than with good food and family. Last weekend, we visited Kwee Zeen in Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara for their amazing Festive Sunday Brunch and what a fantastic spread it was!

There was a wide variety of seafood on ice such as fresh oysters, mussels, prawns, clams and lobster as well as fresh salmon and butterfish sashimi and sushi. There are also salads (with a cheese wheel to mix it all in) and cold cuts on the buffet spread to whet your appetite. We also feasted on the lamb chops, duck confit, braised beef short ribs and roasted prime rib, along with brussel sprouts and roasted potatoes. Their roasted turkey is also one of the best we've tried - extra moist and juicy!

Festive desserts are aplenty, such as mince pies, pannetone, Christmas cookies, Christmas pudding and yule log. My favorite here was the delicate Paris Brest. Don't forget to check out their impressive cheese selections too, which include premium Bordier cheeses.

Make your brunch extra special with free flow of GH Mumm champagne. :) We also love that they have a Kids Corner (with games and kids-friendly food) to keep the kids entertained as well as a live Jazz band for adult entertainment.

The Festive Sunday Brunch is priced at RM188 per person (inclusive selected house beverages) and
RM288 per person (inclusive Mumm Champagne). There will be one last Festive Sunday Brunch held this Sunday 30 December 2018. For enquiries or reservations, please email HA123-FB4@SOFITEL.COM or call 03-2272 6688.

Fret not if you can't make it though, as they will be rolling out their new Sunday Brunches from January 2019 onwards. :)

Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, from 6.00am to 10.00pm.
