Nizza, Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara: New Menu 2019

Sofitel Kuala Lumpur Damansara’s speciality French-Mediterranean restaurant, Nizza, has recently launched their new menu, showcasing a delicious array of high-quality dishes inspired by the South of Europe and the Mediterranean Sea. The new menu enhancements come as part of Executive Chef Kim Gate’s efforts to elevate the Food & Beverage offerings of the hotel.

Nizza’s new menu highlights include Salade de Nizza (arugula, cherry tomato, artichoke, fennel, avocado, manchego cheese, toasted almond argan oil and cider vinaigrette), Vivaneau Grenobloise (local red snapper pan fried, pomelo, grapefruit, lemon, gooseberries and caper berries), Longe d’agneau (lamb loin sous vide, fava breans, beetroot moutabel, heirloorn vegetables and thyme jus) – just to name a few. Seafood lovers will be pleased to see a huge variety of fresh seafood items; Plateau de fruits de mer (grilled lobster, prawns, king crab, red snapper, calamari, mussels and oysters), Sole Meunière (sole fish fillet meunière style, sautéed wild mushroom and garlic parsley cream) and more.

Beautiful restaurant space sets the mood for a fine dining experience

Chef Kim offers his recommendations on some of the must-try dishes and we go with it. To start, we had the Burrata (RM55), Saint Jacques (RM68) and Cocotte de moules (RM75).

The burrata may seem like a simple dish, but done right, is an explosion of beautiful flavours in your mouth. The wonderfully creamy texture of the burrata cheese paired with the sweet, plump heirloom tomatoes and slow roasted cherry tomatoes, locally sourced from Cameron Highlands, just works wonders.

I can never say no to scallops. The Saint Jacques features three plump, seared Canadian scallops with pistachio crust, served with sweetcorn, citrus foam and peppercorn caramel.

For the mussel lover, Baby D, we ordered the Cocotte de moules, steamed mussels with white wine and cream. How good was it? Well, the young man polished off 80% of the mussels (he was kind enough to leave some for us) and was so proud to show off all his empty shells to the waiter. Double thumbs up from him!

For mains, we shared the Longe d'agneau (RM125), lamb loin cooked sous vide with fava beans, beetroot moutabel, heirloom vegetables and thyme jus. Beautifully pink and tender.

The highlight of the meal was the Black Angus ribeye steak (RM155 for 300g), cooked in the Mibrasa charcoal fired grill. As you all know, I'm a huge fan of steaks and this is definitely one of the best steaks I've eaten in Kuala Lumpur. Beautifully presented on a wooden board, the flame-licked steak was perfectly cooked to medium rare doneness, with a lovely char and intense smokiness. LOVE it!

Served with four types of mustard to complement the meat

For desserts, we had the Fondant au Chocolat (RM42), a beautiful warm chocolate fondant made with Valrhona Caramelia, and served with amaretto cream and pistachio ice cream. The Creme brulee (RM38) was also excellent, with a rich vanilla bean flavour.

An excellent selection of fine French cheese (RM78) is also available.

In addition to the new menu, Nizza has also introduced a range of signature cocktails which are definitely worth trying. Earlier that evening, we sipped on the Luxe Tropicale (my fav!), Garden of Eden and Release the Kraken, all RM45, by the pool bar. We also had the Japanese Nikka Whisky Highball with Fever Tree soda water.
