For those reminiscing about weekend kopitiam breakfast mornings, Inside Scoop’s Kaya Toast that consists of burnt butter ice cream swirled with housemade pandan kaya sauce is sure to satisfy your nostalgia. It is even topped with toast crumbs, much like the real thing!

Crème De La Crème, Damansara Uptown

Crème De La Crème (CDLC) is Malaysia’s first and only artisanal dessert haven with highly-skilled local pastry chefs, who have worked and trained under world-renowned celebrity dessert master Christy Tania.  Located in Damansara Uptown, you will find artisanal ice cream and iconic petits gâteaux, all made using 100% all-natural fresh ingredients without preservatives, artificial flavourings or colourings.

Creme de la creme uptown

Not only are their delicate petits gâteaux extremely delicious, they're super Instaworthy too! To be honest, it was so difficult to choose which one to try cos they all looked so good. We settled for their bestsellers, the Longevity (RM25), Da Bomb (RM25), Beauty & the Beast (RM25) and Unicorn (RM22).

Our favourite was Da Bomb; this is literally the bomb in terms of flavours and textures. When serving, the server will light up a sparkler next to the fuse for you to photograph this dessert. This is made up of 63% dark chocolate and Madagascar vanilla ice cream, with hazelnut crunch, chocolate hazelnut praline ganache, dark chocolate dip and gold almond crumble. Perfect for chocolate lovers!

The Longevity takes after the steamed peach bun commonly served on birthdays and eaten to represent a long life. Here at Crème De La Crème, the peach is still served in a dim sum steamer basket. However make no mistake, as this is not a steamed bun, instead it is made up of Japanese matcha and black sesame ice cream, mango yuzu compote, lemon curd, matcha sponge and white chocolate dip.

Beauty & the Beast - if you've watched the movie, you'll be familiar with the enchanted rose encased in the glass case. This seems to be a really popular choice with the couples - a rose which you can eat, why not?  63% dark chocolate and Madagascar vanilla ice cream, morello cherry sorbet, dark chocolate crumble, chewy chocolate brownie, almond nibs and dark chocolate dip.

Unicorn - our girl loves unicorns, so this was a natural choice for her. Madagascar vanilla ice cream, lychee and raspberry sorbet, white chocolate dip and crispy meringues - this was rather light and refreshing.

The handcrafted ice creams are rich, creamy and smooth, with over 20 ice-cream flavours available daily, including bestsellers such as Gold Digger (salted caramel ice cream swirled with chocolate ganache and organic honey comb), Dragon Rose (dragon fruit, lychee and French rose sorbet), and French Earl Grey Boba (French Earl Grey tea ice cream swirled with caramelised brown sugar and topped with golden chewy boba).

Refreshing Mango and passion fruit sorbet

In addition, you will also find some really scrumptious drinks here such as the Matcha Monster (RM18). They use Niko Neko Kyoto matcha and as you sip the drink, you will also find chewy brown sugar boba inside. The drink is also topped with a homemade chewy matcha cookie monster on top (very cute, and you can stick your straw through it's mouth to get to the drink). #BobaLover is happy!

In conjunction with the Mid-Autumn Festival, Crème De La Crème has also created four new petits gâteaux in a limited-edition mooncake giftset, priced at RM129 for a box set of four. Lio Lim, CDLC’s Managing Director says, “With our ice cream mooncakes, we have not only conceptualised a series of iconic and delicious artworks, but they also tell a story which helps to revive the true meaning of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Our mooncakes will make you feel over the moon and are definitely one giant leap for mankind!”.

The four specially created petits gâteaux are:
Chang E’s Elixir: Kyoto Houjicha ice cream, Sesame crunch, White chocolate dip & Dark chocolate garnish. Sakura ice cream + Lychee rosemary compote as yolk.

Fly me to the Moon: Chocolate ice cream, Hazelnut crunch, Candied orange, Meringue & Gold flakes. Mandarin sorbet + Orange ganache as yolk.

小月兔/Little White Rabbit: Coconut ice cream, Raspberry sorbet, Mango compote, Almond crumble & White chocolate dip. Mango passion fruit sorbet as yolk.

红笼梦/Prosperity Lantern: Pistachio ice cream, Crumble, Lemon sponge & Dark chocolate garnish. Strawberry ice cream and homemade strawberry jam as yolk.

The Red Beanbag, Publika, KL

Withstanding the test of time is The Red Beanbag, a modern cafe in Publika / Solaris Dutamas which has been around since 2011.  This stalwart in Publika's dining scene continues drawing in the crowds and churning out consistently, well-executed meals, arguably better than ever.

While the restaurant interior remains the same over the years, the menu which is prodominantly Australian-inspired (think brunch) has been injected with unique Asian twists.

We started with the light, refreshing Beet It! Salad (RM28), which comes with beetroot cured salmon along with mesclun salad, avocados, pickled cucumber, cherry tomatoes, radish, red cabbage, nori seaweed and sesame dressing. The beetroot gives the salmon a pretty tinge of colour and I loved the addition of the creamy avocados, nori seaweed (umami) and the tangy pickled cucumber which gave it a nice sharpness.

Start your day right with beautifully poached, runny eggs. Order the The Atlantic (RM27), in-house cured salmon served with two poached eggs, ikura, wilted Australian baby spinach, sauteed mushrooms and fluffy brioche toast, drizzled with Hollandaise sauce. The presentation and flavours were absolutely spot on. And that brioche toast is so good!

The Black Sheep (RM32) features a huge, juicy lamb patty with lollo bionda lettuce, caramelised onions, gherkin, aioli sauce and fried egg, sandwiched between charcoal buns. The burger also comes with crispy, curry fries.

For those with a penchant for spicy food, we highly recommend The Kraken, which delivers delicious, punchy flavours. Squid ink spaghetti is served with a whole, grilled squid, shimeiji mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and a highly addictive spicy creamy sauce. The squid was perfectly grilled and tender, and was complemented beautifully by the spicy creamy sauce, inspired by the Malaysian sambal.

The Avocado Ice Cream (RM16) is the perfect remedy for the current hot spell. Three generous scoops of smooth, creamy, homemade avocado ice cream is served with brownie chunks and honeycomb and nutella fudge sauce.

My favorite cheesecake currently is burnt cheesecake, so I just had to try the version that they offer here. Hit the jackpot, as the Basque Burnt Cheesecake (RM15) was absolutely sublime - so smooth and rich with a lovely creamy centre.

Enjoy a cup of coffee by their award-winning barista. Cappucino (RM10)

Iced Green Tea Matcha by Niko Neko (RM14)

Jinjja Chicken, The Gardens Mall: For Great Halal Korean Food!

Jinjja Chicken, best known for their signature Korean Fried Chicken and Jjajangmyeon has landed in Malaysia. They recently opened their first two outlets in Kuala Lumpur at Sunway Pyramid and The Gardens Mall.

Jinjja Chicken is a Korean "fast food" casual restaurant, inspired by South Korea's rich street food culture, its love for fried chicken and its pali-pali (빨리빨리) culture of speed. Sourcing for ingredients and recipes from all over Korean, the dishes and preparation methods are replicated as closely as possible to keep the taste authentic.

Located in the new extension on Lower Ground Floor, the trendy restaurant sports eye-catching murals and bright lights, with Kpop music playing in the background. You can even watch your favorite Korean music videos while waiting for your food or dining.

They operate a self-service system here, just like any other fast food restaurant. Join the queue, order, pay and you will be given one of those UFO buzzers which vibrates when your meal is ready. You can then collect your meal at the collection counter and enjoy!

The must-try dish here is of course the fried chicken. You can select either wings or drumsticks as well as the sauce (soy garlic, yangnyeom or monster), depending on the level of spiciness you desire. We were told that monster is very spicy, so we played it safe and went for the soy garlic wings (6 pcs RM15.90).

Deep fried to golden perfection, the wings were crunchy and juicy and non-oily at all! I liked the sweet, salty sauce on the wings too.  You can get the set which comes with fries and soft drinks by topping RM5. We had the tteokbokki fries; have to say this is the best tteokbokki I've tried so far as the texture and sauce is just right. They also do K-Cheese (for that mozzarella pull!) and K-Pop chicken here.

Here at Jjinja Chicken, you can also find noodle, stews (kimchi jjigae and army stew), burgers, salads, rice and rice rolls. If you're craving noodles, you can go for the Jjamjja Myeon (RM22.90), a combination of the jjampong and jjajangmyeon, served in a cute dual heart-shaped bowl. If you've watched Korean dramas before, you would have seen the characters slurping up jjangmyeon, the Korean noodle with the black sauce. Here, they use udon noodles topped with a thick black bean sauce and minced chicken. The jjampong, on the other hand, is a spicy seafood noodle with mussels, prawns and chicken. It had quite a kick to it!

One of our favorite Korean dish is the bibimbap and they do a decent version here.  Bibimbap (RM17.90), literally "mixed rice", comes with carrots, cucumber, kimchi, seaweed, your choice of protein (beef or chicken) and a runny egg in the centre.

The kimbap (RM17.90) here is pretty awesome, a well-balanced rice roll with beef bulgogi and vegetables wrapped in seaweed. YUM! Love the cute packaging that it comes in too.

For dessert, have a soft serve cone; they come in two flavours, the Blue Vanilla and Charcoal Caramel (our vote goes to this!).

Jinjja Chicken Malaysia Menu and Prices

Tip: Arrive before 12pm to avoid the lunch crowd.

Opening times: 10am to 10pm daily.

Price: Total bill RM91.30.
