Our evening started off with a musical performance by the Malaysian Philharmonic Youth Orchestra at the Grand Lobby. You can also catch them again on the 15 December at 7pm. There will also be other musical performances lined up for the festive season such as a piano solo by Ivan Chok (18 Dec), Christmas Choir by the Japanese Women's Association (19 Dec) and String Ensemble by Julliad Music (25 Dec).
Our Christmas review started off with a sampling of appetizers from Tatsu Japanese Cuisine's festive menu. First to arrive was the Slices of Seasonal Blue Fin Tuna and Sea Bream Sashimi from the Sea of Niigata, served with fresh honwasabi. This is from the 5-course Christmas set menu (RM188 nett per person for 5-courses), available for both lunch and dinner from 24 to 26 December 2015. The presentation is stunning and very festive, with the "snow" made from salt as well as the adorable snowman.
We also sampled the Cured Norwegian Salmon with Watercress, Endive, Red Onion, Asparagus, and Mustard Sauce, from Tatsu's New Year menu (RM188 nett per person for 4-courses), available on 31 December and 1 January 2016 for lunch and dinner. The salmon has been cured with salt and sugar for 12-15 hours and is topped with crispy salmon skin - it was sublime; simple and good!
For those who fancy Chinese food for the festive season, Tao Chinese Cuisine will also be offering two different menus. We had the wok-braised smoked lamb cutlet with sauteed vegetables and baked garlic "man tau" from the deluxe 6-course Christmas menu (RM188 nett per person for 6-courses) available from 24 December to 26 December for lunch and dinner. I especially liked the sweet + savoury sauce glazing the meaty lamb cutlets. And from the New Year menu (RM188 nett per person for 6-courses) from Tao, we had the gratinated cheese Hokkaido scallop with red prawn oil and coriander mango salsa - which I obviously loved - the scallop was plump, juicy and perfectly cooked, and lovely paired with tangy spicy sauce.
For those who prefer indulging in a buffet spread, Serena Brasserie will be showcasing over 100 dishes during Christmas Eve dinner including traditional roasts, turkey, festive desserts, fresh seafood on ice and more. It will be priced at RM198 per adult. For Christmas Day, you can indulge in exquisite delicacies such as seared foie gras with homemade brioche and barbeque beef cheek pie and lobster thermidor on top of the traditional favourites such as turkey roast and carvery for RM268 nett per adult (brunch) and RM198 nett per adult (dinner).
Chef Sam's oven-roasted long hickory smoked BBQ beef ribs (available for festive takeaway - 2kg for RM208)
Roasted whole turkey with sage and chestnut bread stuffing, cranberry jelly and giblet juice
Furthermore, there will be a Hangover Brunch, which includes free flow Bloody Mary complemented by an extensive spread of season's customary favourites. Available on 1 January 2016 from 11am to 4pm at RM88 nett per entry.
