Hotel Review: The Westin Singapore

What makes a hotel stay memorable for you? Is it the rooms or the facilities? Sure, these are important factors, however what makes it extra special for me is the hospitality we encounter during our stay as well. And we experienced great hospitality recently during our stay at The Westin Singapore.

The Westin Singapore is a 5-star hotel located in the prestigious financial district, within walking distance to Chinatown and Marina Bay Sands. The hotel offers 305 rooms and suites, with spectacular views of the sea and city. I like the fact that there is a MRT station at the hotel's doorstep, so we could easily hop on the MRT and get around Singapore with ease.

Check-in was very efficient, and the friendly front desk staff, Irish Joy also noticed that it was my birthday in a couple of days (via my passport when she was checking us in), and proceeded to wish me Happy Birthday. A small gesture which definitely left a lasting impression on me. Furthermore, she also took the initiative to send a birthday treat later which was a lovely personal touch.

We stayed in the Executive Sea View Room, which came with a view of the ornate ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay as well as overlooking the pool area of the hotel. We were impressed with the spaciousness of the room, fitted with the signature king-sized Heavenly Bed as well as an expansive work desk with ergonomic desk chair and a lounge chair. The room also comes with a 42-inch HDTV, iPod docking station as well as a Nespresso machine for your coffee needs. The marble bathroom is gorgeous and luxuriously appointed, with a spacious vanity, floating basin, freestanding bathtub, a powerful rainforest shower as well as a separate toilet. The Fragrant White Tea By Westin™ bath amenities, soft bathrobes, and cozy slippers are provided.

The outdoor infinity pool can be found on Level 35, and also includes a whirlpool area which aids in improving blood circulation and relieving sore muscles - plus it is a whole lot of fun. There is also a fitness centre located on the same level, open 24 hours, featuring a full range of facilities for running, jogging, walking, cycling, weightlifting, calisthenics and swimming.

Lush greenery at the pool area

Access to the Westin Executive Club Lounge is available exclusively for hotel guests in Executive Rooms and suites.Guests can choose to have complimentary buffet breakfast here, and in the evenings, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres are available from 6pm to 8pm. Once again, the staff here were very attentive and friendly. There is a good selection of alcohol during cocktail hour for you to enjoy while admiring the views of the sea.

There are 4 F&B outlets in the hotel, namely Cook & Brew, Seasonal Tastes, Daily Treats and Lobby Lounge. We chose to have the buffet breakfast at Seasonal Tastes, the hotel's signature dining venue and the selection was pretty good, featuring eggs cooked to order, waffles, as well as SuperFoodsRxTM dishes rich in nutrients and antioxidants to give you a kickstart to your day. We also had the pleasure of dining at Cook & Brew in the evening; this gastropub offers great food with a fantastic view of Marina Bays in a contemporary setting. We thoroughly enjoyed the Fancy Fish & Chips as well as the tomahawk steak - I'm feeling hungry just thinking about it now.
