Boxing Day Lunch @ Sage Restaurant, The Gardens Residences, Kuala Lumpur

Since I did a good job (*ahem*) cooking our Christmas day meal, Hubby decided to treat me (and everyone else in the family) to a lunch at my favourite restaurant for Boxing Day. Since we had our children with us, we asked to use the private room again. I guess since the restaurant was less busy, a waiter was stationed right outside the room to attend to our needs instead of us having to go out and trying to get the attention of their waiting staff when we need something.

However, one thing which really irked us was the fact that they stopped providing baby high chairs at the restaurant. I think it's their way of telling their customers that they do not "encourage" the presence of young children in the restaurant premises. Sorry Baby C and Baby D, but this will be the last time in Sage for you until you're a little more grown up :( No more family meals here for us.

Anyway enough of the negatives. The rest of the afternoon was great, from the service down to the food. Chef Daniel even came out to speak to us and we got a photo taken with him as a memento. Though we only ordered 4 set lunches for the adults, Baby C was also given a complimentary drink which made her very happy.

Love the freshly baked bread here.

Both starters that week appealed to me but in the end we settled for 3 warm ocean trout with sakura cress and soy mirin vinaigrette and Hubby had the kampung chicken egg mollet on truffle toast with truffle shavings and Parmesan cheese. The warm ocean trout was a bit different than envisaged (thought it would be served in a chunk like this) but nevertheless very yummy and we also loved the wonderfully vibrant colour of the dish. Baby D enjoyed this very much as he keep asking for "more, more".

More, mummy, more...

My original choice for the starter was this egg mollet, but the name printed on the menu was a little misleading - "kampung chicken with egg mollet on truffle toast and Parmesan cheese". I asked the waitress if there were truffle shavings and she told me nope and since the menu didnt mention it either, I took her word and ordered the other starter. Turned it there was indeed a whole load of truffle shavings, and I was so regretful for not ordering this!!  Hubby said it was very very delicious (to make me jealous!), honestly the amount of truffles already made my mouth water.

A simple dish cooked to perfection..

Truffles galore

For mains, we had 3 roasted marinated black cod fish with pane of oyster and cepe mushroom ragout. The fish was nice and flaky, but we didn't really care much for the sauce. The oyster was pretty yummy, lightly battered.

I think Hubby's slow cooked lamb loin with kipfler potato and thyme jus is much yummier. The lamb loin was nicely cooked to medium doneness, very tender and full of flavour!

Bavarois is one of our favorite desserts from Sage. Looks simple but it tastes really good. This kahlua bavarois was served with coffee jelly and cream cheese ice cream. The components shouldn't be eaten separately -- ie the coffee jelly eaten on its own is quite bitter but together with the bavarois, it's great.

Kids were sad cos this was the last time they'll get to come to Sage for a while :(
