Best Yee Sang in KL for Chinese New Year 2019

Yee Sang is one of the highlights during any Chinese New Year meal. Families and friends gather together to "lo hei" as they toss to good fortune, wealth and health in the new year. The Chinese believe "the higher you toss, the more luck you get". Here is a list of some of the best yee sangs we've tried this year:

1. JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur

Without a doubt, the prettiest yee sang we've come across this year is from Shanghai Restaurant in JW Marriott KL. Amazing skills by the talented chefs is showcased here; thinly sliced salmon flecked with edible gold make up the beautiful dress. (*available upon request)

2.Grand Millennium Kuala Lumpur

One of few hotels in KL which embraces the arrival of the Year of the Pig with their yee sang creation. The Yee Sang with Abalone comes with cute piggy buns, as well as crispy pork crackling. The fruity yee sang sauce is also worth a mention, made from all natural ingredients such as peach, apricot, strawberry and mandarin orange.

3. Rama V Fine Thai Cuisine

One of the tastiest ones around, the yee sang here comes with a delicious Thai twist. The yee sang is topped with scallop sashimi, smoked duck, Thai fish cake, fried red and green yam, pineapple, red rubies, crispy Thai basil, green papaya, shredded coconut, pomelo and more! It also comes with three types of sauces (sesame, mieng kham and plum sauce) which blend harmoniously together.

4. Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur

If you love lots of fresh ingredients in your yee sang, Lai Po Heen's version will certainly please. The luxurious Yee Sang with abalone and assorted vegetable is made up of lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. 5. Beta KL

Beta KL offers yee sang in all sizes, starting from a one-person portion. The yee sang comes with scallop tartare with local root vegetables, pickled pumpkin, deep fried yam and pomelo snow. There is even a whole abalone, symbolising happiness and definite good fortune for the new year. The dried abalone is first soaked for 3 days and then cooked for 2 days in kombu.

6. La Juiceria

La Juiceria's Prosperous Yee Sang comes with an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables such as shredded kale, beetroot, red cabbage, cucumber, grape, pomelo as well as other auspicious ingredients such as mandarin orange, cashew nuts, dried apricot, chuka wakame, smoked salmon and crushed peanuts. Love the freshness of this yee sang.

7. Four Points by Sheraton, Puchong

The bountiful Eight Treasure Yee Sang comes with a selection of crispy shredded treasure, salmon, scallops lips, baby octopus, jellyfish, marinated clam, pear, Fuji apple, persimmon, crispy fish skin, pickled pumpkin and chef's special dragon fruit dressing.

The Prosperity Abalone Yee Sang is beautifully plated, with thinly sliced abalone rosettes. The yee sang also contains jellyfish and jackfruit slices, which offer a refreshing crunch.
