It is pretty popular with the locals, as they received a steady stream of customers throughout the night. Most of the tables are placed on the pavement (street food yo!); take a seat and one of the staff will come over to take your order.
We ordered a chicken portion for 3 pax and requested for chicken breast only. The chicken has been poached (like Hainanese chicken style) and is served with some light soy sauce and sesame oil. You can eat this with one of the dips provided (a spicy chilli based one or a tangy lime one with spring onions). The chicken was smooth and juicy despite us going for a lean cut.
In Ipoh, you can have your chicken rice with either fragrant rice or hor fun (thin rice flour noodles served with a flavorful light broth). The hor fun was so smooth, it just glided effortlessly down my throat. The rice portion was enormous (check out the plate in front of Baby D!).
Also known as taugeh, bean sprouts from Ipoh are renowned as one of the best in Malaysia, thanks to the abundance of hard water from the limestone hills in the area. This results in crunchier, more succulent bean sprouts - the perfect accompaniment to your chicken meal. The beansprouts are simply blanched in hot water and served with soy sauce and pepper. Simplicity at its best!
Look at how fat and juicy the bean sprouts here are!
