After placing our order, we were served a ball of small radish (oroshi). The waiting staff kindly showed us how to eat it - add 3-4 drops of tamari dressing and ground sesame. This helps open up your palate before enjoying the tonkatsu.
I went for the buta katsu set (RM28.90), which features both deep fried pork loin and pork fillet. Perfect choice for me, as I couldn't decide whether to have the loin or fillet. I read on their menu that their meat is freshly selected and then aged. It is coated in light crispy breadcrumbs and fried using corn oil. The meat was tender and it was crispy without being oily. Very nice indeed.
All sets come with shredded cabbage (mix with the salad dressing), pickles (tsukemono), Nagoya-style miso soup (tonjiru) and a choice of either brown or white rice. For the tonkatsu, you can either dip in the rock salt, sweet tonkatsu or spicy tonkatsu sauce.
Hubby has been craving "curry sauce and chips" (if you've lived in the UK, you'll know what I mean).. so he ordered the homemade chicken katsu curry (RM28.90). To his pleasant surprise, this was exactly what he had been craving for... he loved the thick, creamy homemade Japanese curry sauce.
We had a very nice meal here, will definitely return when we have tonkatsu cravings.
Hubby won a food hamper from Ben's Independent's Grocer... did a flatlay before enjoying the gingernuts and chocolate ;)
