101 Sabah Pork Noodle, Cheras, KL

The words on the signboard, "101 Sabah Pork Noodle" caught my eye as we drove past this area one day. So, Hubby and I decided to drop by one of the mornings for breakfast.

Sabah Pork Noodle, also known as sang nyuk meen (生肉面) is a speciality dish from Sabah. Literally translated to Raw Pork Noodle, this noodle dish gets its name from the raw, fresh pork slices used in the noodle soup.

We ordered two bowls of Kon Lo Sang Nyuk Meen (Dry)- you can request for either yellow noodles, flat noodles (koay teow) or vermicelli (mee hoon). The noodles, coated in dark soy sauce and pork oil was tasty - we enjoyed it.  The accompanying chilli dipping sauce had quite a kick to it.

The noodles are served with a bowl of clear soup, which contains pork slices, and meatballs. We asked for the intestines and liver to be omitted. The pork slices were tender, however the soup (which they publicise on their FB page as being boiled with pork bones for hours) was lacking in flavour. I find the taste a little too light for my liking, and Hubby concurred. Machi down the road does a more flavorful soup, in my opinion. However, since we've never tried the real thing in Sabah, we cannot really judge for certain if this is the authentic taste of Sabah pork noodles. Nevertheless, this will suit the tastebuds of those who likes a lighter tasting soup.

  1. We have one place selling this here - very nice! Of course the accompanying noodles here is not the same, they serve it with our local kampua mee.
