Memory Makers @ Traders Hotel KL

Earlier this week, Traders Hotel Kuala Lumpur launched their Memory Makers at their restaurants and bars.

What is a Memory Maker?

They are new signature dishes created by the chefs which they hope will truly leave a lasting impression on their diners. In total, there will be 7 Memory Makers in Traders Hotel KL - 3 from Gobo Upstairs, 2 from Gobo Chit Chat and 2 from Sky Bar.

My favorite Memory Maker of all, is without a doubt, the Nasi Lemak 2.0 (RM30) from Gobo Chit Chat. The presentation is top notch and I have to say this is an excellent rendition of Malaysia's national dish. The rice is steamed in the coconut shell together with the coconut water and milk - it was fluffy and wonderfully fragrant. You can eat the rice with the fresh coconut flesh scooped from the shell. The rice is served with condiments of half a boiled egg, peanuts, ikan bilis, cucumber slices as well as spicy prawn sambal and a choice of chicken rendang or ayam berempah. Highly recommended!

For Gobo Upstairs, the Memory Makers are the Mushroom Tea (RM35) appetizer as well as a 3some Meat Platter (RM250 for 2 persons). The wild mushroom infused consomme is poured tableside into a glass with morel and enoki mushrooms. The clear consomme was light and flavorful and is served with crispy salted tempura oyster mushrooms on the side for the texture contrast.

The 3some Meat Platter features roasted spring chicken, lamb rack with artichoke and coriander pesto as well as tenderloin steak with rosemary and Bordelaise sauce, served in syringes for the fun factor. The meats were cooked competently, all tender and delicious. My only comment for improvement would be that the chicken piece on the bottom should be served in such a way that the skin stays crisp and does not go soggy.

From Sky Bar, try the Sky 33 (RM35), a fruity concoction with kiwi juice is muddled with vodka on ice, and topped with cubes of kiwi vodka jelly for that added kick. The Selangor Sling (RM48), on the other hand is an upgraded version of their signature cocktail, made with Tanqueray gin, hibiscus syrup, elderflower syrup, pineapple juice, a dash of Absinthe, shaken and topped with a roselle flower.

For desserts, there is the Le Bon Vivant Ice Kepal (RM20) from Gobo Chit Chat, a dessert inspired by the local ice ball dessert from the 70s and 80s. The ice ball is drenched with syrup, and topped with blackberries and raspberries. Hidden beneath the ice layer is a surprise ice cream core.

The Cherry BOMMM (RM30) from Gobo Upstairs is a visual delight - hot dark chocolate sauce is poured over a white chocolate sphere, which will crumble to reveal a treat within. Garnished with blackberries, raspberries and fruit leather.
