Since it's the Songkran celebration this weekend, we shall continue with our Thai food theme; this time a review of a Thai restaurant in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI). We decided to try Surisit Thai Kopitiam when were in the area recently since we have heard good things about it. The restaurant is located on the busy Lorong Rahim Kajai 13, so it took us quite a while to find a parking spot.
The restaurant was surprisingly empty during lunch hour (maybe caused by the parking problem). On weekdays (11am to 6pm) they have a set lunch which consists of more than 10 items. Most of the items are priced at RM14.90 nett and includes a drink.

Since the set lunches seem like a good deal, we both ordered from that menu. We also ordered an extra dish from the a la carte menu, the Mun Thod Gapi (RM16.90 for small), a fried pork dish which looked very appealing on the menu. So glad we ordered this as it was very good, the fried pork is well marinated and was very crispy yet tender. It was served with a chilli dip and some deep fried kaffir lime leaves which were fragrant and crunchy.

Crispy fried pork - oh so good!
Hubby had the Thai green curry chicken (Keang Kiaw Wan) set which was quite mild and creamy. A side of omelette was also served with this. I had the Sour Orange Fish Fillet Curry with Vegetables (Keang Som Pla) set, since I was craving for something hot and sour and this did the job. It was appetizing, and there was quite a generous amount of fish fillet (hurray to no bones!). This is quite spicy though and made my mouth tingle.

Verdict: Food is delicious and reasonably priced. Wouldn't mind coming back if it was easier to park in this area.

Food looks so-so, kind of diluted, toned-down - I think I've seen better Thai fare elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty good, for me.

ReplyDeleteHehe only got 1 stomach... cant eat that much! Maybe next time :)
DeleteDespite this Thai restaurant being walking distance from my house, I've only been there once! Haha. Their crispy fried pork was indeed very memorable!
ReplyDeleteI wasn't aware there were set lunches, perhaps it's time for another visit. :D
Ooh very nice looking crispy pork.
ReplyDeleteoo.. pork is served here! I m gonna drag hubby here soon... hehehe...
ReplyDeleteI would definately order the Kaeng Som Pla and the Mun Thod Gapi!!
Looking at those curries make my mouth water. Definitely looks delicious to me!
ReplyDeleteKeang Som Pla is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteHmmm maybe their set lunch fare is much better. We tried their ala carte on a sunday evening and it was quite disappointing. Might give it another go if we r around the area on a weekday.
ReplyDeletePlanning to visit this place for the longest time but seem like couldn't make it for this moment too since I'm having terrible ulcers on my tongue ~>_<~
ReplyDeleteThat looks like good portions for the price! Wish I wasn't trapped in the office at lunchtimes...lunch sets are always such a good deal!
