Recently, we were staying at The Ritz-Carlton KL with the kids as part of their school holiday activity, and we thought it would be nice to give them their first afternoon tea experience at The Lobby Lounge. We had a wonderful afternoon together, and the kids especially enjoyed the desserts. What a great way to spend the Easter weekend - perhaps this can be a yearly Easter affair for us? :)
Afternoon tea at The Ritz-Carlton KL
The Traditional English Afternoon Tea is priced at RM75++ per set. Each set can be shared, however an extra pot of tea needs to be ordered for the sharing parties. Diners can choose from a selection of 40 Ronnefeldt teas. Vincent, the waiter who served us, took time to explain the different teas to us. I like fruity teas with my afternoon tea, hence I went for the Raspberry Royal - a refreshingly sweet tea made with sun-ripened raspberries. Hubby likes his Tarry Lapsang, a black tea dried over burning pinewood for a smokily spicy flavour, which Hubby often likens to a "non-alcoholic whisky". The kids got an orange juice each.
Love the tableware here
A spot of refinement for Baby D - dressed up smart for the occasion too

Right after tea is served, the three-tier afternoon tea set is brought out to our table. On the bottom tier are the plain butter scone, raisin scone, quiche and chicken and mushroom pie. On the middle tier are the sandwiches, such as smoked salmon, egg mayo, ham and cheese and tuna. We enjoyed the warm scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, as well as the selection of the well-prepared sandwiches, quiche and pie.
The top tier is meant for the desserts and instead of bringing a pre-set selection to us, we now get to choose from the dessert trolley - 4 types per set from a selection of cakes, chocolates and macarons. We let the kids do the dessert picking since this is a treat for them.

Baby C is a natural... spreading clotted cream and strawberry jam on her scone like a pro
The dessert trolley has arrived - so hard to pick only 4 out of 12 cakes, macarons and chocolates
The cake selection includes mini Victoria sponge, English fruit cake, blueberry financier, After Eight chocolate cake, raspberry Breton, and Strawberry trifle. The kids both picked the After Eight chocolate cake and Morello cherry cheesecake, both which were really good. Good picks, kids! :) Baby D also picked the Strawberry trifle and double chocolate cake, which was very rich and sinful! Baby C on the other hand picked a strawberry macaron (which I found to be a tad too crispy, but she liked it a lot) and a chocolate. Overall, found the cakes to be extremely good, and I like their new style of letting the diners choose their own dessert platter.

Live harpist plays here in the afternoons
Verdict: I still consider this to be one of the best afternoon teas in town.

I just called to reserve with my wife and baby, but they said the lounge is smoke/cigar zone. If that so, will it be dangerous for baby/kid?
ReplyDeleteHi there, on the few occasions we were here, we were fortunate that there were no smokers around. If you are worried about this, u can try The Majestic Hotel KL for their afternoon tea too. I believe that is smoke-free.
DeleteThanks!but because at Ritz the set can be shared so its a value for money for those who are thight on the budget :P btw how much the cost for an extra pot if the set to be shared?
