Roast duck @ Four Seasons Restaurant, Empire Shopping Gallery, Subang Jaya

We stopped by Empire Shopping Gallery for some lunch after running some errands in the Subang area. Since we were new to the mall, we did our usual restaurant rounds to check out their menu offerings. We were reaching the end of the restaurant stretch on the Lower Ground Floor when we spotted this banner outside Jaya Grocer.


The famous Four Seasons Restaurant from London is now open in Empire Shopping Gallery


As soon as we reached the restaurant, we were greeted by the sight of these beauties, just waiting to be devoured.

The restaurant itself isn't very big. The setup here is simple; place your order at the counter, pay and a number will be given to you. Then, the waiting staff will bring the food to your table. The tricky part is to find a table as during lunch hour, it can be extremely packed.


I allow myself to be tantalised by this picture as we waited patiently for our duck. While we waited, I reflected on my love affair with the famous Four Seasons roast duck. Prior to my encounter with Four Seasons in Bayswater, London, I was no fan of roast duck. However, after tasting the famous roast duck there, I was converted.

It was love at first bite.

Suffice to say, since then my appreciation for roast duck grew. We were lucky that there was an excellent roast duck place in Seremban. However since moving to KL, we have had zero luck finding a decent duck place in Cheras (any recommendations would be welcomed). I am aware that Four Seasons have an outlet at Capsquare, however to stumble upon an outlet here was fantastic.

Ice Lemon Tea (RM4.80)

Our roast duck finally arrived and I remember why I fell in love with it in the first place. The glistening crisp skin was just calling out to me. "Oh Baby Sumo, please eat me". As I sank my teeth into the meat, a smile formed on my face. It's been a while since we had good duck in KL and the duck here was excellent.

We also ordered the roast pork (siu yuk) and it was just as good. The crackling was extremely crisp, so when we bit into it, it had that wonderful crunch. This was swiftly followed by the melt-in-your-mouth thin layer of fat underneath the crackling.


There are also rice and noodle dishes here, but a visit to Four Seasons Restaurant is not complete without trying their roast duck.

Hong Kong Style Dry Plain Noodles (RM4.50)

As we left, a quick check with the restaurant staff revealed that the restaurant was opened merely a week ago. My lucky stars must be shining on me.



Service: Service here was good; the waiting staff actually came around twice to ask if our food was okay.

Price: Whole duck available at RM59. We paid RM22 for two combination of meat (roast duck and roast pork).

  3. There is another outlet at damansara perdana too. Wei Haw and I tried it the other day .it's as yummy as the one at london :)

  4. Supia: This is slightly different from Peking Duck. The meat is chunkier and you eat it as a whole with the skin. :)

  7. My dear has been eye-ing on this for a long time... from the stall still under renovation till last week it has finally open for business.(we went to Empire almost every weekend :P) But we have yet to try as we already had our dinner last friday when we went..but soon i'm sure! :D

  10. Joe: Nah, they didn't ask if we wanted to debone the duck so I'm not sure if that option is available.

    As for the sauce, you mean the one that they drizzle on the duck right? No sign of that either. They only provide the plum sauce to dip the duck in.

  12. I love roast duck, there is 1 restaurant @ Menjalara, Kepong has good roast duck, u can try when u happen to be at that area :)

  20. i recently had very bad experience there..the wantan soup i ate, worse at finishing, there IS PRIVATE PART HAIR!!!! its really disgusting..worse still the staff say its just one of staff hair..they try make sound it ok to have hair in the food!!!! i and my parents not blind..which part hair we can see...i couldnt eat for a day still shocked and feel gross from it..i try to get their HQ number but the staff just tell me they will inform their boss themselves..i bet they wont! i want called up and complain. this is reaL bad as they are high end restaurant but they never live up to their reputation! what the point the food is good but the hygiene is so poor!!!! i rather have clean food even not tasty!!!!

  21. Just got to read this. If you are still looking for nice roasted duck in Cheras, please go to Restoran Sun Ming in Taman Connaught (next to BHP Station). One of the best in Klang Valley I can assure u. :)

  22. Not sure if you mind takeaways. But if you don't, do try the "Sei Ngan Chai" roast duck in Petaling Street. I know, the stall is hard to find, and finding a parking spot is harder still. But taking and enjoying the juicy, scrumptious roast duck back home is just too comfortable to pass. Maybe its one of those things my family enjoy doing together. This roasted good tends to sell out quite fast (esp during CNY) so it is advisable to go get there around 10-11am. The price is reasonable too, at MYR40++ per duck (slightly more expensive during festive seasons), and duty-free too =)
