Wasabi Bistro is led by Chef Hiro Sakamoto, who brings 20 years of experience with him. Originally from Japan, he has previously worked in Fukuoka, Osaka and Hawaii. His style is to preserve the original flavours of the ingredients while presenting the beauty of his native culture. As his latest creation, he presents three set menus for the Washoku Brunch, namely the Shogun (RM588), Sakura (RM728) and Samurai (RM888) Sushi Boat Set, available every Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 3pm.
We started off the meal with a Green Salad, which came with an appetizing tomato dressing, followed by Kumi's No. 1, their bestselling appetizer. Named after the owner Madam Kumi, this appetizer consists of shredded crabstick, avocado, white fish and seaweed baked in a secret sauce, for a creamy, delectable finish.
The signature Sakura Sushi Boat is their mid-range option, and comes with an impressive boatload of seafood goodness. Our favorite was the thick, fresh slices of tuna and salmon sashimi followed closely by the delicious Rainbow Roll. It is advisable to eat the Beef Kushiage first as this is best enjoyed hot. Everything else on the boat can be consumed at a leisurely pace such as the edamame, enoki butter, spinach with goma sauce, soft shell crab roll, assorted nigiri sushi, salmon shioyaki or teriyaki and assorted tempura. This Sushi Boat is recommended for four diners.
