Hotel Stripes Kuala Lumpur is the newest addition to YTL Hotel's impressive portfolio of hotels and resorts in Malaysia. The hotel is also part of the Autograph Collection Hotels (an ensemble of exclusive independent hotels by Marriott International), featuring a distinctive vibe and character with a different perspective on the local scene mixed with a bit of edgy style and adventure.
The hotel is steeped in history, much like the neighbourhood it sits in. Strategically located on Jalan Kamunting, the site once housed YTL's first office, the Bangunan Yeoh Tiong Lay. Several neighbouring lots were bought up over a number of years allowing YTL's return to the community as Hotel Stripes.
All dressed in stripes for our family staycation at Hotel Stripes ;)
The hotel is designed to showcase the local heritage with a touch of modernity whilst complementing the iconic buildings in the vicinity. The brick facade lends a chic, modern curbside appeal to the property which is matched inside by modern, stylish rooms and a chic French brasserie for dining.
Along with BabySumoKids, we were at Hotel Stripes recently for a short staycation during the school holidays. The hotel has 184 bespoke guest rooms and suites, with four room categories to choose from. The boys stayed in one of the Executive Deluxe rooms, while the girls snuggled up in the Studio for some quality time together.

I just love new hotel rooms - the rooms here are spacious and modern with a contemporary design. Propped above the comfortable king-sized bed is a black and white photograph showcasing Jalan Kamunting during the 1940s to 50s. Every room also comes with a coffee machine, sofa bed, 50" LCD TV as well as a complimentary mini bar.
We also love the little touches such as local snacks and sweets placed in the room, which brought back sweet childhood memories for me.

One of the features in the room is this large bling bling vanity mirror which is placed in the room, rather than the toilet.
Head upstairs to the rooftop pool, set against the breathtaking views of the city skyline for some well-deserved relaxation. There is also ample covered seating, the space accentuated by beautiful plant walls. You may even order food from the in-room dining menu and request that they send it up to the pool so you can enjoy it in the sun. There is also a 24-hour gym located on the same level.

Breakfast is served at The Snug, the hotel's all-day dining restaurant. The restaurant has a laid back, cosy ambiance with stripped-back walls, giving it an industrial edge. The breakfast selections are great, from pastries to soba noodles, fried noodles, congee and eggs cooked to order. We particularly enjoyed the nasi lemak bungkus which comes with a kickass sambal.
For lunch and dinner, hotel guests can check out Brasserie 25, a French-style restaurant offering comfort French food. The red brick arches showcase the open kitchen while the copper sputnik chandeliers and large windows give the space a classy yet simple elegance.
We highly recommend the Pan seared foie gras, Duck confit, Lamb shank, L'Entrecote De Boeuf and Roasted rack of lamb. You may check out our post here and here. As expected from YTL, the service staff are impeccably turned out and always willing and able to assist when called upon.
Special mention to restaurant manager Li Lian, who we recognised from The Majestic Hotel KL.. she is a true professional, warm and welcoming towards all her guests, forever busily helping out around the hotel.
YTL Hotels are renowned for their afternoon teas and Hotel Stripes offers a French slant to afternoon tea in the form of Le Gouter. Available daily from 3-6pm, patrons can spend an afternoon indulging in unlimited French pastries, hot savouries and refillable tea.You can read more about Le Gouter here.
Make some time to explore the Jalan Kamunting neighbourhood for some good food. This area used to be the main settlement for tin mining during the colonial area. At the end of the 19th century, most of the neighbourhood’s buildings which had been constructed from wood and thatch were replaced with bricks and tiles as stipulated by the British colonial administration.
As one of the oldest neighbourhoods in Kuala Lumpur, you can expect to find distinct eclectic shophouse architecture, many with five foot ways, pedestrian walkways unique to the region, such as 1940s shop houses and decade-old family-owned businesses such as Yut Kee and Ah Loke Tailor. The hotel is also located within walking distance to a MRT station and Quill City Shopping Mall.
Room rates start from RM247. Check-in time 3pm, check-out time 12 noon.

I would prefer some nice calming and soothing painting at the top of the bed instead.
