One of our goals this year is to try as many banana leaf rice around KL / PJ area as possible. There is a glut of banana leaf rice restaurants in Bangsar, and we thought we'd give Raj's Banana Leaf a try. Other than banana leaf rice, they also serve noodles, fried rice, roti canai and more.
We both ordered the banana leaf rice set (RM7.50), which comes with white rice, choice of curry sauce, four types of vegetables, and papadums. For the curry sauce, you can choose from fish or chicken curry or dhal - they're fairly thick and well-spiced. The vegetables served to us were cucumber and onions, beansprouts, radish, and deep fried snake gourd. Unfortunately the deep fried snake gourd was really soggy (due to the way it's stored), and the papadums were not crispy too. Hubby also tried getting a rice refill; we asked three different waiters but it never came.
Thankfully, the mutton varuval (RM10) saved the day - it was meaty, tender and spicy. And I enjoyed the fried chicken (RM6.50) too, which was cooked to order so it was served hot. Nice and juicy! Overall, an enjoyable BLR meal (a bonus point is the lighting here is absolutely perfect for flatlays!).
If there are any outstanding Banana Leaf Rice in your area, kindly leave me a comment below so that I can check it out! Thank you :)

I wish we had one here. Kept telling the boss of the very nice Indian restauarnt, maybe just have it as a Saturday lunch promo but all on deaf ears. Maybe this is South Indian and his chef is North Indian, I wouldn't know.
