Andres Lara at Mandarin Oriental KL - Afternoon Tea

For 4 days only (15 to 18 September 2016), Cacao Barry Regional Pastry Chef for Asia Pacific, Andres Lara will be showcasing some of his signature creations at Mandarin Oriental KL for Lounge on the Park's Afternoon Tea, as well as at The Mandarin Cake Shop.

Chef Andres Lara brings with him over 12 years of experience in pastry making and was trained at the prestigious French Pastry School in Chicago where he pursued knowledge and excellence in understanding the world of refined pastry. His most notable experiences include working in Michelin-starred restaurants such as Bagatelle in Norway, elBulli in Spain, Noma in Denmark, and Iggy’s in Singapore. His pastry creations ooze with sophistication and elegance.

Priced at RM108 nett per set, guests will have the opportunity to sample his delicious creations on the Afternoon Tea stand at Lounge on the Park. What we love most about his creations is that we are able to experience so many different flavours and textures, all complimenting one another so wonderfully well. Furthermore, we couldn't stop admiring how delicate and exquisite they look! When asked which is his favorite, Chef Lara tells us it is the mini snowball (coconut moelleux with lime marshmallow).

The Afternoon Tea will be served with a selection of TWG teas

My favorite from Chef Andres Lara's creations was the Mini Kashmir Chai Gateau, which is made with Chai tea and Zephyr white chocolate with green apple and cocoa nib Breton.  This is also available for purchase at The Mandarin Cake Shop at RM20 per piece.

Mini 70% Cuba & Cherry Balsamic Gateau is made using origin chocolate, with a cheesecake crust with Zephyr Chantilly. Sweet and tangy!

Banana Peanut Crunch Finger Cake - Peruvian Alto El Sol mousse and chocolate sable

Passion Fruit Alunga Milk Chocolate Mini Choux with hazelnut praline crunch

Pure C, with 3 different textures of chocolate - orange confit brownie base, whipped ganache and 70% cocoa mousse

The Afternoon Tea also comes with warm scones (Earl Grey tea scone with baked jelly filling), finger sandwiches and savoury items.

Mandarin Oriental KL also recently welcomed a new Executive Pastry Chef, Tony Hoyle on board. We got to sample some of his new macaron flavours, namely Coconut Mango, Lychee Rose, Caramel Peanut, Valrhona ganache, lemon with orange marmalade, bubblegum and dulce passion fruit. The macarons are available to buy at The Mandarin Cake Shop.

Happy Malaysia Day!  Never tire of this gorgeous view of the Petronas Twin Towers.
