Tamaruya, Isetan The Japan Store KL - Meat Tasting Bar

Back at Isetan The Japan Store for the third time to satisfy our Japanese food cravings. Our first stop was Tamaruya, to check out the Wagyu beef on offer.

Tamaruya is a meat tasting bar, whereby customers can choose from a range of meat on offer (beef, chicken, lamb), pay and then the chef will cook it for you. We picked a piece of Australian Wagyu sirloin (RM39.90 per 100g), approximately 260g and the marbling on the meat was excellent for the price paid. We paid RM104.50 for the Wagyu and another RM10 cooking charge, which I think is reasonable.

Pick your meat and bring to the counter for cooking

We requested for medium rare doneness, and the chef did a really good job and presented us with a beautifully cooked steak. The steak was well-seasoned, had a nice crust and the melt-in-the-mouth texture. Loved it!

Other than the Wagyu steak, we also had the special bara chirashi don (RM25) and salmon zanmai (RM38) from Shoya Sushi Bar. You can actually order from different outlets (just let them know where you will be sitting, and the food will be brought to you). We like sitting at the sushi counter, as we get to see all the sushi making action by the chefs.

The price at Shoya has increased slightly since our first visit and I find that the bara chirashi is not as nice as previously as they cut the ingredients much finer (I prefer them slightly chunkier), nevertheless still an enjoyable bowl of bara chirashi.

Bara Chirashi on our 2nd visit (not so nice also as ingredients are too fine for my liking - you can click here to see the one we had on our first visit)

Watched as the chef made bowls and bowls of bara chirashi!

Chef's selected sushi (special) - not mine, just watched the chef make it.

On our 2nd visit, we also had Tsujiri Matcha Soft Serve (RM6.50), at their pop-up store (no longer in Isetan The Japan Store)

  3. That's quite a good price for wagyu and is rather similar to the one I had at Intermark...pick the meat and have them cook it for you. Must bookmark the place to try :)
