Hi everyone, how's your weekend going? We just got back from a fantastic staycation at Traders Hotel KL, as part of the #MyEatPlayShop Instagram contest and we can't wait to tell you more about it!
After checking in, we headed straight to Gobo Upstairs for lunch. Gobo Upstairs have recently revived the Upstairs Unlimited lunch concept, whereby diners can enjoy unlimited servings of items on the lunch menu. This is better than a buffet, because you don't even need to get up from your seat to get your food, instead the food comes to you!
The lunch menu changes weekly, and is priced at RM50++ per person. It really is a great price as the food quality is good. Every week, diners can choose from the salad of the day, soup of the day, up to 5 types of mains and dessert. Coffee/tea is not included in the price.
We started off with some warm bread rolls served with an addictive truffle butter. This stuff is so good! Our server comes around with a bowl of salad and asks if we would like to try some. The salad was nice and fresh, so we had to ask for seconds.
Salad of the day
Soup of the day is a rich and smooth cauliflower soup with croutons. I enjoyed this very much.
The mains were really fantastic as well, we had a hard time deciding which was our favorites. I think it is great that the mains selection offered is so varied - nice that you can have beef, chicken, fish, Asian or Western, all in one sitting. The braised beef ribs served with roasted potatoes and carrots was a huge hit at our table. The meat was tender and falling off the bone, and we especially love the parts with lots of tendon.
The chicken makhani (aka Indian butter chicken) and biryani rice smelt and tasted good. The rice was fragrant and fluffy, and the chicken was pretty succulent with a great sauce.
Love the presentation of the local fish papillote, where the fish (seabass) is placed in a folded parcel and baked. This keeps the fish moist and retains all the lovely flavour within. Simple preparation that showcases the sweetness of the fish.
The shepherd's pie was really tasty, with fluffy mash potato on top and flavorful filling. There is also a vegetarian option of penne with basil tomato sauce.
Penne
Dessert is a simple chocolate eclair with mix berry compote, which is competently prepared. Each plate came with two eclairs and I really loved it - so no choice but to order an extra plate to keep my mouth and tummy happy ;)
Champagne is obviously not included in the RM50++ price, but our host graciously treated us to Moet &Chandon champagne to welcome us to the hotel. Great food, great company and bubbles -what a great way to spend the weekend, I say!

ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting concept! I don't usually like buffets (although some in Asia are amazing) but a roving buffet where they serve you is a great idea!
