Best Family-Friendly Hotels in Malaysia

To help with your family holiday planning, here's a list of 10 of the best family-friendly hotels / resorts in Malaysia we stayed in this year. I've detailed out the kids-friendly amenities and facilities at each hotel. Click on the hotel names for the detailed review.

1. The Westin Desaru Coast Malaysia

Our kids loved staying at Westin Desaru, thanks to their spacious rooms featuring the iconic award-winning Westin Heavenly® bed along with a stunning seaview. The pristine Desaru Beach fronting the hotel is one of the nicest beaches in Malaysia - think white, sandy beaches and glistening, warm sea. There is also a Kids Club, suitable for younger kids.

One of the nearby family attractions is the Adventure Waterpark, with over 20 rides, slides and attractions, including the first-ever water coaster in the region and one of the biggest wave pools in the world. The hotel provides complimentary shuttle service to the waterpark.

If you're into golfing, visit The Els Club Desaru Coast, a 45-hole golfing paradise consisting of Valley and Ocean course. Children can participate in numerous golf programs available at The Els Performance Golf Academy.

How to get here: 4-hour drive from Kuala Lumpur. Fly from Subang airport or KLIA2 to Senai International Airport, and the resort is an hour's drive away.

2. Club Med Cherating, Malaysia

If you're looking for a stress-free family holiday, a visit to Club Med Cherating should be on the top of your list. Club Med offers an all-inclusive package that takes care of all your needs, including full-board gourmet meals, free-flow drinks and snacks throughout the day, fun activities, kids club, daily entertainment and more.

The children will be well looked after by the G.Os at the dedicated Kids Club, and can participate in a range of enriching activities such as flying trapeze, archery, tree top challenge and more.

Parents will have plenty of time to reconnect and enjoy their time together while their children are having a fun time.

How to get here: 3 1/2 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur.

3. Aloft Langkawi Pantai Tengah

Ideally located on Pantai Tengah, the rooms come with a spacious balcony with picturesque views of either the Andaman Sea, garden or the lush surrounding rainforests. You can request for Camp Aloft, designed for children below 12 years old, which comes with a camp castle, air mattress as well as treats for your kids.

On Level 3, you will find an outdoor infinity pool (1.2m), a children's pool (0.4m) as well as two whirlpools encased in the metal birdcage structures.

For the little ones, there is a bright and cheerful Kids Club, filled with board games, card games and toys to keep them amused. There will be daily movie screenings, as well as activities such as colouring class, kids cupcake decoration and paper origami on selected days lined up for the kids.

The resort also offer fun recreational activities for the whole family, from kayaking to pedal boating, wind surfing, sepak raga, beach volleyball and petanque.

5. The St. Regis Langkawi

There is a children's pool right next to the stunning infinity pool. The hotel provides sunscreen as well as ice lollies to keep the children cool in the sun.

Novotel Taiping is the perfect launch pad for exploring this quaint town and Taiping's major attractions, thanks to its strategic location in the heart of Taiping town. We highly recommend a visit to the Taiping Zoo & Night Safari, Antong Coffee Mill, Taiping Lake Gardens, mini golf at Spritzer Eco Park and Perak Museum.

The hotel pool, located on Level 7 offers a beautiful mountainous view of Maxwell Hill (Bukit Larut). There is a children's pool (0.45m) in addition to the main pool (1.2m).

The award-winning Golden Sands Resort by Shangri-La, located on Penang's renowned Batu Ferringhi Beach, is one of the best family-friendly hotels in Penang, thanks to a multitude of child-friendly facilities and leisure activities on offer.

This family-friendly beach resort boasts three swimming pools within the lush tropical gardens which caters for different age groups and skill levels. At one of the swimming pools, there is a shallow and shaded area for kids to play in. There is also a Splash Zone, a mini waterpark with two water slides, complete with a landing pool, and an anti-slip splash pad with tipping water bucket, water cannons and twisting water jets.

For kids aged 5 to 12 years old, there is a Cool Zone Kids Club located at the Mezzanine Floor at Adventure Zone. You may sign your kids up here daily, and they will be well looked after by the friendly staff all day long. The children can engage in fun, organised activities such as coconut bowling, golf putting, origami, sand art and more. The Kids Club is complimentary for hotel guests and open daily from 9.30am to 9pm, with lunch and dinner provided.

Golden Sands Resort is also home to Penang's first indoor playground, Adventure Zone. This 10,300 sq ft air-conditioned indoor facility or play area offers three thrilling drop slides, modular play equipment as well as a toddler zone for the little ones.

8. Hard Rock Hotel, Penang

Hard Rock Hotel is a trendy hotel located in Batu Feringghi, Penang. For families with young children, the Roxity Kids Suite, designed with young rockstars in mind is ideal - kids get a trundle bed in the adjacent room, with awesome amenities such as their very own TV, Playstation 4, soft toys, kids books and a kids-focused mini-bar.

Hard Rock Hotel Penang is home to the largest free-form swimming pool in northern Malaysia, with a sand pool, three water slides and underwater music. The Roxity Kids Club cater for children aged 4-12 years old, and they will be guided through fun activities such as arts and crafts, hand painting and games. There are also a Tabu Teens Club to keep teenagers entertained (pool, foosball, Xbox), and Lil' Rockers Infants Club for the under 3s.

Swiss Garden Genting is one of the newest hotels in Genting Highlands. The rooms are modern and spacious. The rooftop sanctuary on Level 41, feature a heated swimming pool, lap pool, kids pool, jacuzzi, sauna room,and a stunning glass alcove.

On Level 5, you will find a landscaped bird cage garden, along with hammock swings, a children's playground and hot spa. Swiss-Garden Genting provides a complimentary shuttle to and from Genting Highlands Premium Outlets for hotel guests. You can also take the cable car up to SkyAvenue for shopping or for a fun day out at Skytropolis indoor theme park.

10. Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur

For those who do not want to spend hours on the road, a staycation in the city is the answer. Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur is one of the best luxury hotels you can stay at in KL, with the most amazing view and unparalleled service to boot.

The Grand Executive Suite is perfect for families, offering lots of space and the best views of the iconic Petronas Twin Towers. The suite also comes with two large LED TVs as well as Bose sound systems and Apple TV and this kept the kids amused throughout the weekend with movies, cartoons, singing and dancing.

The Grand Club Lounge, located on the 37th Floor welcomes families with children. There is a dedicated family room, with comfortable sofas and TV where families can enjoy their breakfast and evening cocktails here.

Surrounded by lush tropical greenery, the outdoor saltwater swimming pool offers countless hours of fun for families. Children can play in the wading pool (0.45m) or in the main pool with a depth of 1.2m, and the hotel even provides complimentary kid’s amenities such as children floats, kick-board, swim noodles and life jackets. Families can also visit Aquaria KLCC and Petrosains for a fun, educational day out.
