The Big Bad Wolf Books Sale 2012, Part 1

Woohoo! I finally made it to The Big Bad Wolf Books sale today. Parking was a huge problem  and traffic keeps getting diverted since it's Selangor's public holiday today but other than that the shopping experience was quite good - managed to browse through the books for 3 hours without having to wrestle my way and all payment counters were opened, so no wait at all. To those who plan to buy a lot of books, it is advisable to bring a shopping trolley or luggage bag especially if you're buying over 20 books like me... or bring 2 strong men (like I plan to during my next trip next week) to carry your books for you! ;) Once you've purchased your books, you can ask a porter to help you push your books out to the lobby and you can bring your car up there for collection.

I spent 3 hours here and only managed to look through the Cooking section as well as some of the kids activities stuff, and just grabbed a few fiction on my way out. Here are some of the books that I managed to get my hands on, bought 22 books for RM187. So cheap right?

 My new cookbooks

These are just some of the cookbooks that I got, but I want to return to see if there are any other good ones. I really like the James Martin one (RM20), he's one of the celebrity chefs on UK television and this book covers many good British classics. Asian Delights (RM12) is also a good one, lots of interesting Malay, Chinese and Indian recipes in there. Don't think I've cooked much Latin food, grabbed the book (the only one I found mixed in with some other books) cos it was only RM8 and lots of interesting things I want to try.  And also got one for Thai food, a cuisine I'm very interested to learn more about. Was hoping to find a Japanese cookbook but didn't see any good ones. The Sweet Life (RM12) are dessert recipes with less sugar. I bought Sensations since the photos are really pretty and it's only RM5 (fine dining with a Chinese touch). I got 1 Nigella Lawson (RM20) book - How to be a Domestic Goddess but didn't get any Jamie Oliver ones although I saw piles of them. The Nigella one will come in handy for Cook Like a Star next year.

The fiction and non-fiction

I didn't really have time to browse through this section and just grabbed the ones I thought looked good. Was surprised that I managed to find Julie & Julia (RM5) since I didn't really go looking for it. I've seen the movie before and liked it. Other books I got were World's Best Book (facts such World's Tallest Man, World's Weirdest Creations etc), The Lincoln Lawyer, Eat Pray Love, The Bourne Deception, and A Desirable Residence. Most novels are priced at RM8.

For the kids

For the kids, I got them some sticker / activity books. We've already opened one called "Meet the Eggsleys"  which they got for their Advent Calendar Day #1 gift. Only RM3 and lots of fun. Most of these are RM5 or RM8.

At the sale

We had some visitors today, made them Madeira cake and it was a huge hit!

The Big Bad Wolf Sale will run until 23 December, 9am to 9pm daily at Malaysia International Exhibition & Convention Centre (MIECC), located next to Mines in Seri Kembangan.

    1. Yeah I saw a pile of Sam Leong books for RM15 and just a couple RM5.. so I grabbed the RM5 copy. Looks the same, maybe wrong pricing.

I saw the Tom Aiken book, unfortunately we cant really get good fish at our local wet market so I didn't get the book.

Go again... and buy more on your next trip!

  12. WOW! What an awesome collection of books ! And 22 books for just RM$ 187. ONLY!! I know how expensive was all these books in M'sia & I was thinking of grabbing few cookbooks from my previous holiday back in April. But ended up buying one single cookbook from the famous Japanese chef at Changi airport! LOL I find that books are way cheaper here in Europe than in M'sia. I heard my cousins & friends talked about this huge book sale the other day on FB & they came back with tons of books too! Didn't know that it's that cheap! Looking forward for your next week 's treasure hunt! Have fun ! :)
