Set Lunch @ Din Tai Fung, The Gardens Mall Kuala Lumpur

When it comes to these tiny morsels called xiao long bao, my personal favorite are the ones from Din Tai Fung. Perfect texture, with a soupy meaty filling... these are just fantastic.

During weekdays (Monday to Friday 10am to 6pm), Din Tai Fung offers a set lunch menu for RM21.80++. It comes with 6 pieces of xiao long bao, one main course (choose 1 from 4 choices) and free flow Chinese tea. If you find that you still have room for desserts, just add RM4. The set lunch is pretty good value for money.

Service is efficient as always, and the restaurant is very kids friendly. Baby C was offered a kids cutlery set.

We love the chilli oil here

As always, the xiao long bao impresses. Baby C loves this, and we love it too.

As you can see, she quickly 'reserved' three for herself :)

For mains, we picked the Hot & Sour Soup La Mian -- I remember not being too impressed on the first visit with their la mian, but my perception totally changed after this bowl of FANTASTIC noodles. The soup was really good (very appetizing) and the noodles had a lovely texture.

We also picked the Vegetable Pork Dumplings La Mian for Baby C's benefit. Baby C, being a noodle connoisseur (haha she does love her noodles) gave this her thumbs up. The pork dumplings were very juicy too.

Delicious vegetable pork dumplings

Soup = pass, noodles = pass, dumplings = pass :)

For dessert, we had the Sesame Dumplings in Homemade Soya Bean -- the soya bean was not too sweet and the sesame dumpling was just the right texture.

The Golden Yam Paste Rolls was a winner too, with its smooth yam paste and crispy skin.

If I'm not mistaken, the choices for the mains vary monthly so some of the items you see here may differ from current set lunch menu since we had this sometime ago. But overall, the dishes here were satisfyingly good.

  1. Had pretty nasty experience in pavilion but it seems that things look good here. :)

  2. Oh no! What was wrong? Thankfully, I've only at good experiences with DTF.

  3. It's my BoiBoi's fave place for siew long bao too! We usually visit the MVM outlet and only been to Pavilion's once. So far all ok for us

  4. The xiao long bao from DTF is also my favorite. :)

  5. gosh, i haven't had xiao loong bao in ages (maybe none at all this year), and now i'm craving some! i wonder if there'll ever be a xiao loong bao competition to see which outlet makes the best ones in KL. i remember din tai fung's being definitely good, but i also recall liking crystal jade's at lot 10 and shanghai's at the jw marriott ... hmmmm .....

  6. I love xlb from DTF too. N there's this spring onion la mian that is very delicious! I should try their set lunch one day

  7. you know of all the din tai fung ive tried in different parts of asia, shanghai does those xiao long bao the best!! But the ones in kl is not too bad too, if only they have more variety in their fillings :)

  8. babe_kl: We've visited the outlet in Empire Subang before too, and all is well there too. One basket of XLB is never enough for us! :P

  9. Sean: I'm ashamed to say I haven't tried the xlb from those two restaurants yet. I've only had xlb in dim sum restaurants and they all failed miserably!

  10. iamthewitch: Actually their set lunch items are just stuff off their a la carte, except that the price is cheaper overall. :)

  11. AugustDiners: Any other good xlb places u would recommend in KL?

  12. Small Kucing: Texture is good and the soup (esp the hot and sour) is damn shiok.

  13. Must tell Baby C be careful when eating the XLB :)

  14. Din Tai Fung n Crystal Jade's xlb can fight it out...have tried both :)

Btw there's a Crystal Jade La Mian XLB in The Gardens too :)
