2021 Mooncakes: Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur

Supporting Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group’s initiative to sustainability- bamboo, an easily renewable eco-friendly material, was chosen by Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur for its 2021 Mid-Autumn Festival mooncake packaging. Presenting an exquisite collection of flavours from Lai Po Heen, the box encases six delicate mooncakes available from 1 July to 21 September 2021

A time to send gratitude and warm wishes to loved ones, guests can choose from a selection that includes classic baked favourites as well as mouth-watering snowskin creations and irresistible chocolate mooncakes.

Illustrating the hotel’s stance on sustainability, the box is beautifully handcrafted and carved with the Mandarin Oriental’s signature fan emblem. An easily renewable material, bamboo grows up to three feet in just 24 hours and reach its full growth within three to four months. In addition, bamboo can absorb carbon dioxide two times more efficiently than trees.

"We are committed to making a positive impact towards sustainability. Just to name a few notable achievements this year, we have replaced all our bath amenities with new Diptyque dispensers; all our guest amenities are replaced with eco-friendly and sustainable materials; all our chocolate products are made with single origin cocoa beans locally sourced; and soon we will be a Hotel that has fully eliminated all single-use plastic in our day to day operations. With the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival, we want to take the opportunity to encourage our guests to join us in supporting a greater purpose for sustainability, for Mother Nature,” said Christian Tavelli, General Manager at Mandarin Oriental, Kuala Lumpur.

To further support this year’s commitment to Social Responsibility, guests are encouraged to join the hotel’s sustainability movement by choosing to donate any amount towards WWFMalaysia’s forest conservation initiatives and stand a chance to win a lucky draw prize

Their Halal-certified traditional baked mooncakes include Mixed nuts; Lotus paste with single yolk; Pandan with single yolk; Black sesame paste; and Red bean paste with melon seed. The Low Sugar White Lotus Paste mooncake is a perfect option for those who are health conscious as mycose, commonly known as mushroom sugar, is a one fourth substitute to standard sugar in this mooncake.

Chocolate lovers are in for a treat with Mandarin Oriental’s highly sought-after Chocolate Mooncakes. All chocolate mooncakes are made with high quality cocoa beans sourced from Pahang. Flavours include Malaysian single origin dark chocolate with crunchy pearls, dark chocolate cream & gold leaf; Malaysian milk chocolate, jasmine tea & sesame ganache; and Mandarin milk chocolate ganache with orange marmalade & zest confit.

An annual crowd favourite, the Snowskin Musang King Durian is a small delicate parcel that wraps over durian flesh and cream, while the other snowskin mooncakes include the Snowskin cheese with strawberry and white lotus paste. Also making a debut this year is the Brandy dark chocolate with fig crunch pearls and lotus paste.

Guests who are looking to gift something special this season can opt for the Golden Moon. Each mooncake is intricately sprayed with edible gold dust for a luxurious and refined finish. Flavours of this special series include Lotus paste with single yolk and Pandan with single yolk.
