Start your meal with the customary yee sang toss, or "lo hei". Toss your way to prosperity and happiness with Five Sen5es Specialties Yee Sang, with toppings such as crystal pear and mango, Norwegian fresh salmon, Australian spring abalone, sliced two head abalone, jellyfish or Taiwanese top shell abalone. The yee sang is also available for takeaway, with prices starting from RM68 nett. We had the Taiwanese top shell abalone and Norwegian Salmon Yee Sang, impressively arranged with the Chinese word spring in the centre.
For our review session, we were treated to dishes from all three set menus, specially selected by Chef Tan. The Double boiled chicken consomme with sliced fish maw, trumpet shell and ginseng was warming and invigorating.
Next to arrive was the Crispy roasted chicken with spicy garlic sauce. The chicken was juicy and we especially loved the fragrant spicy garlic sauce topped on the chicken.
Fish is a must-have during CNY as it symbolises abundance for the new year. I was happy to see pomfret on the menu as it is my favorite fish. The pomfret is steamed with beancurd skin and mandarin skin.
My favorite dish of the evening was the Stir fried fresh scallop with two kinds of fungus. The scallops sourced from Canada were huge, plump and juicy, much to my delight. Two types of fungus were used, mok yee (the more common black wood ear fungus) and yu yee (a brown fungus) - the latter has an interesting, crunchy texture which we enjoyed.
Eat your way to happiness as prawns symbolises laughter in the new year. The Deep fried prawn with avocado salsa was another highlight for me - the batter was light and crispy and was paired beautifully with the creamy avocado salsa and pomegranate for added texture and sweetness.
I also enjoyed the Braised diced chicken and abalone rice, which was a comforting, flavorful dish.
To end, we were served Sweetened chilled coconut sago with rock melon and jackfruit as well as Chinese New Year nian gau with sweet potato filling.
