Pak Tai serves fine southern Thai cuisine and is located in the vibrant Feast Village in Starhill Gallery. You can read more about the restaurant here. The menu features appetizers, soups, wok-fried dishes, curries, deep-fried dishes, noodles, rice, vegetables and desserts.
Over our two visits, we managed to try quite a few dishes off their menu. There is something to suit every palate - from fiery tom yum soups to creamy curries or milder dishes for the kids. A cold, refreshing glass of Cha Yen (aka Thai iced tea) (RM15) to start is always a good idea. Enjoy the complimentary mieng kham while waiting for your food to arrive - the staff have thoughtfully assembled it for our enjoyment.
If you like spicy soups, the Tom Yum Goong (RM45) will get your tastebuds tingling and whet your appetite for more. We like that you can specify the level of spiciness here, dependent on your tolerance level. The soup was spicy and sour and came with large, fresh prawns. Loved it!
Our favorite Thai curry is Green curry chicken (RM45) and they do a great version here. Creamy with tender slices of chicken, eggplant and sweet basil. So good, it'll make you reach out for more rice.
For those who prefer something milder with fruity notes, the Yellow curry shrimp (RM75) is a good choice. The size of the prawns they use here are rather impressive, cooked along with pineapple chunks and kaffir lime leaves.
If you're dining with kids, the servers will probably recommend the signature Massaman Nua (RM95), a mild, creamy cardamom-scented Southern curry with slow cooked, tender Wagyu beef cheeks.
Our kids also loved the Goong Pad Nam Prik Pao (RM65), stir fried peeled tiger prawns with capsicum, onion and Thai basil in a fragrant roasted sweet chilli paste. Enough heat to give this dish some oomph but still mild enough for the kids to enjoy.
Hubby's favorite dish here at Pak Tai is the Pla Kapong Dang Tod Kamin (RM105) - the crispy deep fried red snapper. The fish has been cut into chunks for ease of eating. The flesh was fresh and sweet, with a crisp outer layer coated in turmeric and herbs.
The Pad Thai Goong (RM40) is also fantastic; it's the first time BabySumoKids had pad thai and they totally enjoyed it. It's always a good sign when the kids ask for a second helping. Again, this came with large, juicy prawns. So flavorful!
Eat your greens - go for the Pak Liang Pad Kai (RM30), wok-fried Thai spinach with egg or the more familiar Pad Pak Boong (RM30), wok-fried morning glory (aka kangkung) with garlic and chillies.
