Reopened: Club Med Cherating + Upcoming Kota Kinabalu resort

Club Med, the pioneer of premium all-inclusive holidays, is gearing up for an aggressive travel rebound in the Asia Pacific (APAC) region, with the announcement of Club Med Cherating’s reopening on 15 October 2021, as well as the brand’s upcoming greenfield beach resort in Kota Kinabalu set to open in 2023. In conjunction with the reopening of Club Med Cherating, the resort is offering a special promotion with holiday packages priced at RM930++ per adult for a 3-Day 2-Night stay—the perfect reason to head to Cherating Beach for a quick getaway.

Club Med is also readying itself with an aggressive expansion pipeline. Despite the pandemic, the brand continued its global expansion across four continents including Club Med La Rosière, France unveiled in December 2020, Club Med Seychelles in March 2021, Club Med Lijiang, China in September 2021 and Club Med Québec Charlevoix in December 2021. Review: Club Med Cherating, Malaysia

Club Med Cherating is the perfect destination for a stress-free family holiday in Malaysia. The resort is located on Cherating Beach near Kuantan, Pahang, about 3 1/2 hours drive from Kuala Lumpur.

This school holidays, we visited Club Med Cherating for a 4D3N family break and what a wonderful, unforgettable time we had there! It is an awesome family-friendly resort and our kids had an enriching experience and created memories to last them a lifetime.

Here are 10 reasons why we love Club Med Cherating and why you should choose it as your next family holiday destination:


1. All-Inclusive Holiday

3. Dedicated Kids Club

The Kids Club at Club Med Cherating is by far the best Kids Club we've come across in any hotels or resorts we've visited in Malaysia.

Here, the children are put into different age groups as each age range has a selection of activities specially tailored from them. There is a Baby Club Med and Petit Club Med for under 4s, and the 4 to 10 year olds are placed in Mini Club Med, where they can try a range of engaging sports, creative workshops and family team games.There is also the Club Med Passworld for teenagers, up to 17 years old.

Every morning, you can drop your children off around 9am and pick them up again at 4.30pm. Under the guidance and supervision of the well-trained, enthusiastic team, the children are exposed to the wonders and delights of Club Med Cherating, and various high-energy sports and outdoor activities.

The Kids Club G.O.s were really great with the kids and made them feel very welcome. It was heartwarming for us to listen to them recounting their day and telling us about all the fun adventures they had at the end of each day.

The Kids Club is very flexible too, so your child can choose if they want to join them only for certain activities or times.

4. Fun-filled activities

There is something for everyone here at Club Med Cherating, regardless of whether you seek an action-packed holiday or a relaxing one. You can find unique activities here such as flying trapeze as well as archery, rock climbing and tree top challenge, where you will be guided by experienced G.Os.

Most of the activities here are suitable for both adult and children, with scheduled times throughout the day to cater for different age groups. Do bring your sports shoes as they are mandatory for certain activities.

I challenged myself to do the Treetop Challenge (Adult course) too!

There are also watersports at Pantai Beach (weather permitting) such as sailing, kayaking, paddle board and beach volleyball.

Stay fit by joining a variety of planned activities such as yoga, zumba, pilates, total core and bootcamp or enjoy free play of futsal, tennis, basketball, badminton or bocce ball all day at the Sports Center.

The main pool is located at the centre of the resort, equipped with deckchairs and parasol. You can join the aqua aerobics or pool games organised daily or simply chill by the pool.

5. Delightful Cuisine and Free-Flow Drinks

Club Med Cherating boasts three restaurants and three open bars. The main restaurant, Mutiara, serves buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner, with changing themes everyday. The food here far exceeded our expectations, with a huge variety on offer including local, Western, Chinese, Japanese and Korean specialties.

Rembulan Restaurant is located on Pantai Beach and is a semi fine-dining restaurant with table service. You will need to make reservations on 8.30am on the day you wish to dine there. Lunch is a much more casual affair, however options are slightly more limited compared to Mutiara.

There is also a noodle bar, Enak, where you can grab a bowl of noodles anytime you need a snack.

There is a Main Bar (Orchid), Beach Bar at Pantai Beach (Bayou) and Zen Pool Bar, to keep you hydrated throughout the day. Drinks are free-flow from morning until night. Try as many cocktails (we highly recommend the Margaritas!) or mocktails as you like, and don't worry about the price - it's all included!

6. Adult bonding time

Thanks to the G.Os who kept our children amused throughout the holiday, we had plenty of opportunities to relish in some "adult time", from exploring the resort to enjoying carefree days lounging at the Zen Pool (adults only pool) located at Pantai Beach. You can reach Pantai Beach by taking the shuttle train which runs every 30 minutes or take a leisurely walk from the main resort (about 20 minutes walk) through the lush jungle trail.

We certainly enjoyed the quiet time and appreciate the time to reconnect as a couple.

7. Instaworthy Moments

Club Med Cherating is blessed with beautiful natural landscape overlooking the South China Sea. There are lots of opportunities and places to capture that Instaworthy moment.

There are also lots of wildlife to be found here, such as wild boar, monitor lizards and monkeys.

8. Themed Nights and Daily Entertainment

There are fun themed nights every day, with different dress codes such as All White and Beach/Floral wear.

In the evening, catch the daily changing show at the theatre. On Monday when we arrived, our daughter immediately joined in the Mini Club Show, and the kids put on a wonderful dance performance for us in the evening. On the second and third nights, there were circus shows and comedy acts, and our kids also got to join in their first foam party after the show. So much FUN!

9. Amazing Family! Programme

For times when you want to spend quality time with your kids, you can take part in the wide range of innovative activities available through the Amazing Family! programme. There are five special "times" under this programme such as Time to Move (soccer bumper, jungle boot camp), Time to Play (giant Jenga and dominoes), Time to Care (nature walk, family yoga, cooking lesson), Time to Quest (digital treasure hunt) and Time to Celebrate (family big snacks and foam party).

10. Positive Child Development

Club Med Cherating offers a conducive environment for your children to make new friends, try new experiences as well as learn new skills. It was great watching our kids blossom and become more independent during our trip.



Club Med Cherating is built according to traditional longhouse architecture, and has 240 rooms divided over 15 three-storey teak buildings. The Superior Room offers a view of the gardens and has all the basic amenities such as hair dryer, in-room safe, television, coffee/tea making facilities, air-conditioning and complimentary Wifi.

2. Ideally you should plan your stay for at least 4D3N to fully immerse yourself in the Club Med experience.
3. For the Kids Club, you should pack swimwear, sports shoes and sandals, extra clothes and sunscreen for your child.
