Sometimes a town can throw up some of the biggest culinary surprises. For instance, a recent trip to Prague revealed an absolutely great Mexican joint (more on that later!) and in the German town of Regensburg you will find that they have some pretty mean Italian joints, one of them this quaint little shop serving self-made pasta called Pasta Rustica. Don't let the size of the shop (and the chef!) fool you, as you will be pleasantly surprised with the consistency they manage to churn out good plates of pasta. They mention at the front of the shop that the extra virgin olive oil they use is sourced from their parent's own field in Italy. It makes the attention to detail that they put into their food much much more impressive.
Perfetto
The shop is located in front of a church on a rather quiet street
Not the most populated of surroundings but the amount of customers inside show a contrast
Church opposite the restaurant
Some self-made pasta
Simple and homely decor
The area where they concoct the coffees and other drinks
A large Pumpkinschorle (juice diluted in carbonated water) for €2.50
We had one Spaghetti Aglio e Olio (€5.90)
A case of getting the basics absolutely spot on. Beautiful!
Al dente pasta and nice flavours from the garlic and chilli
We also had a Linguini Scampi (€7.10) served with a tomato based sauce
Nice refreshing flavours and smooth linguini
Here is a selection of pastas we have had in the past in this shop.
Tagliatelle tartufo. Tagliatelle with shaved truffles
Linguini with shaved grana padano and cherry tomatoes
Linguini Gambaretti. Linguini with prawns and zucchini
Spaghetti Spinaci. Spaghetti with spinach, pine nuts and anchovies
Linguini salmone. Linguini with salmon slices and cherry tomatoes
Linguini arancia. Linguini with prawns and orange sauce
Linguini anatra. Linguini with duck breast, porcini, carrots, celery and tomatoes
A range of products they sell at the front of the shop. You can even purchase their pasta to cook at home
As big as the Dom in Regensburg? Probably not but in terms of pasta in the Regensburg area, this has to rank as one of the very top.

ReplyDeleteThose plateful of pasta look drool-worthy ! The pasta must be very good in that shop :D
ReplyDeleteHi Yen! Pardon my ignorance... who's The Unc?
ReplyDeleteHehe I misunderstood, I thought you had to make your own pasta! I was thinking that that was a brave concept indeed! :P Is the Pumpkinschorle pumpkin flavoured at all?
ReplyDeleteThe pasta looks amazing! For some reason, pasta always feels sort of heavy and 'too much' for me, but the pasta in your photos look very light and thin and wonderfully executed. so jealous of the trip!
ReplyDeleteI like the looks of the Linguini Scampi! =)
ReplyDeleteOoo.. travel story... I LIKE! Great street shots and I am sure that the most simple food's the best sort. Hope you post more like these!
ReplyDeleteThe Spaghetti Aglio e Olio looks quite pathetic, not much ingredient other than pasta. But the rest of the dishes looks good!~
