Located at The Table in Isetan the Japan Store, the restaurant specialises in thick cuts of grilled beef (yakiniku). It first started in a small backstreet in Ebisu, Tokyo in December 1995 and has now expanded to over 70 venues around the world.
Toraji are known for their premium quality Australian beef, especially their signature diamond cut, which apparently helps the beef cook better and faster. The premium beef is enhanced with the restaurant’s special house-made marinade and sauce.
They have quite an extensive a la carte menu and if you come in the afternoon, they offer an affordable lunch menu (available daily, prices start from RM30!). Tip: Diners who call ahead to make reservations will be served a complimentary makgeolli.
We've been here about four times now, and we leave with happy tummies everytime. Furthermore, Toraji utilises a propriety grill and ventilation system that eliminates any excessive smokiness – so you do not have to worry about walking out with your clothes smelling of BBQ.
Our kids love it here! They often do the grilling for us :)
We're usually here for lunch, and we can't resist a good deal when we see one. The Kalbi and filet set meal (RM30) is very good value for money - it comes with 150g of kalbi boneless rib as well as filet. The set also comes with kimchi, salad, rice and seaweed soup.
Over here at Toraji, you cook your own meat, to your preferred doneness. It doesn't take long to cook - maybe a couple of minutes, depending on the cut of meat. They provide tongs and scissors so you can cut your meat up. Do ask for some of their special salt to season your meat with- it brings out the flavour of your meat even more. The meat is tender and flavorful; we especially love the filet which is served cubed. This set is limited to 10 sets a day.
Another set which we like here is the Toraji set meal (RM80) which comes with extra prime kalbi, prime harami, prime filet and prawn. You get more premium cuts and I think more meat compared to the RM30 set.
From the a la carte menu, we tried the Toraji beef tongue (RM56) and diamond cut Australian wagyu kalbi (RM63). We had the beef tongue on our first and second visit, and we prefer the thicker cut that they served during our second visit. The beef tongue had a slight bite yet is tender and juicy. Super yummy!
A la carte menu. Other than beef, they also offer chicken, seafood, noodle, soup and stone pot.
