Leisure Tea Cafe, Cheras, KL (Vegetarian)

A couple of weeks ago, we visited Leisure Tea Cafe, a stall located in Pusat Penjaja Taman Bukit Anggerik in Cheras, which serves wholly vegetarian cuisine. The menu here consists of vegetarian versions of regular rice and noodle dishes such as curry noodles, asam laksa, chicken rice, nasi lemak, bak kut teh, and Hakka pan mee.

Their signature dish here is the Hakka lei cha, also known as "thunder rice". You may opt for white rice, brown rice or noodles to go with your lei cha (RM6.80 for white rice version, RM7.30 for brown rice version). They operate self-service here, so simply place your order, pay and bring your prepared food to the table to enjoy. The lei cha comes with a basil and mint smoothie (yes, that bowl of green liquid), which you pour over your rice before you enjoy.  The rice bowl itself comes with a variety of vegetables, salted radish, peanuts, tofu and sesame seeds. I instantly felt healthier when I finished my bowl.

On certain days, they do a limited amount of popiah (RM2.50 each) too. The popiah is wrapped in a homemade skin, like a thin crepe and then filled with stir fried turnip, jicama, French beans, carrot, lettuce, sweet sauce and chilli sauce. This was super tasty and we ended up having three portions.

Opening hours: Sun-Thurs 7.30am - 2.30pm; Fri 9am - 2.30pm; Closed on Sat.

Location: Leisure Tea Cafe, Lot 15, Pusat Penjaja Taman Bukit Anggerik, Jalan 34/154, Taman Bukit Anggerik, 56000 Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. (Street parking available)

La Manila Cafe, PJ

The bright pink exterior of the La Manila Cafe caught our attention as we walked towards our lunch venue in PJ that afternoon. We ended up coming here for desserts after our lunch.

La Manila is a bakery-cum-cafe which has been around since the 80s. As we entered the shop, our eyes were immediately drawn to the display of cakes at the counter such as cream cakes and cheesecakes. The cakes are pretty reasonably priced too. Other than cakes, they also serve a variety of Asian and Western dishes such as Chicken cordon bleu, pasta, chicken chop, meehoon siam, chicken pie and more. Food prices start from RM10.90.

We had the Burnt cheesecake and Lemon meringue pie, both were pretty decent. Wish we had more space to try their other cakes, maybe next time!

Operating hours: Mon - Sat 9am - 8pm; Sun 9am - 7pm.

Location: La Manila Cake & Pastry House, 24, Jalan SS 24/13, Taman Megah, 47301 Petaling Jaya, Selangor. (Street parking available).

Tel: 03-7804 5797
